I was a die hard sony fan for a long time. Recently, I decided to step back into the console world again. The last system I had was the regular playstation. I was completely against the first xbox due to it's ugly asthetics, and the company it was made by. Last month I decided to stop being close minded and try out a 360. They seemed to be the tits as far as graphics go, and all the stuff that can be done (downloading games, content, networking) seeemed great.
Well here I am one month in, and the console is crapping out on me. I keep getting some type of E74 error, and if I dont get that, the console just freezes, and last night, it wouldn't even finish loading MLB 2k6. I am done. I decided to stop being close minded and give craprosoft a shot. I honestly enjoyed the system and some of the games alot, but I don't have the patience to keep dealing with their long tradition of dodgy bugs in their products.
Sony for the most part has been very good with the playstation and most of their products over the years. I will probably pick up a PS3 for myself next year when they are available and/or the price hopefully drops a little. I was thinking of keeping one of the ones I plan on buying, but a grand+ seems foolish to not take in place of keeping one.
Anyone else let down by the 360 functionality?

I have heard things, but I bought mine about a month or tow ago and have had no huge problems. I love it.

well i would hope you got the 360 warrantied, cause you can just return it and its not a problem. dont think that sony is immune to their fucks ups as well, like changing the chip in ps1, which made it essentially psx, then playstation 2 blue discs(like my Marvel vs Capcom 2) damaging the laser, so eventually people had to replace their entire system(like myself). these first round of ps3s will surely have their share of bugs that will need to be worked out, much like 360 had serious heating issues that were worked out after the first year. if you were shopping for a durable system based on brand, get a wii, hell my NES still works after 20 years.

no console will be perfect, but dont be so anti microsoft that you dont see sony's shortcomings as well. and yes my 360 occasionally messes up, but it has not caused major gameplay disruption, the second it does, its going back to best buy.

You said you bought the system last month, so it should still be under warranty. Microsoft is pretty good about fixing systems that are still under warranty. It may be something stupid, like you have a defective hard drive, or there may be something wrong with the console. Also, make sure that the system is in a well ventilated area, because they over heat really easily. I had a defective 360, and they fixed it free of charge. It's a little annoying to be without the system for 2 weeks, but I just caught up on old PS2 games that I never played. Unfortunately, due to technological advances, the systems are a little more sensitive then they used to be.

Mine crapped out, and was replaced in under a week at no cost to me. No problems at all with the new one.

No regrets here.

I have never had any problems with my 360. I think maybe I had one random freeze-up, and I attributed it to Disc Read Error. That's it. And I got it back in May or so.

No problems since then. I've never had a problem with Microsoft's game consoles.

yeah, i mean it seems like games are shifting to the playstation and leaving the 360 behind. i wasn't going to get a PS3, but when bully and other games went exclusive to playstation, i said F xbox

I wish Rare wasn't exclusive to Xbox/Microsoft because I want Viva Pinata...it's Animal Crossing and Pokemon all rolled into one. I must have it and Auto Assult...luckily Auto Assult 2 will be on the PS3.

i have had mine since the launch, logged well over 1500 hours of gameplay and i think it locked up once while playing oblivion for 10 hrs straight.

My only problem is the game selection. Besides oblivion, i have not blew a load over any other 360 game yet. There are some goods ones but ehhh.

Looking forward to the wii though. And I am currently sucked into the world of FF12 on PS2. One of the best RPGs in a very long time.

yeah... hearing some of the other experiences sounds like I just got a possible lemon... I think? Anyhow, I will get it fixed and keep it most likely, though I do have to agree with you jpc, that there is definately a lack of good games.

How is this for a bug according to Game Informer there is going to be ONLY 300k available for sale in the states from release till april or may next year. And yes its goin to have bugs. EVERY system's first batch or round has issues. I have a 2nd gen XBOX and a 3rd gen PS2 and have never had any issues with either. I plan on getting the 360 as soon as finacially possibe. $500 for the pro system now is a plus. Whats the FF I saw for XBOX today in Game Stop? Is that an online only game or somthing? I think the "core" and "pro" system thing would be phased out soon. Is it really worth it for the pro? Maybe an informed gamer could crunch some numbers for what it would cost us to buy the goodies the pro comes with as opposed to the core system. Thanks in advance.

there are a ton of places that break down what each extra piece you get with the pro system costs, and you technically save a couple hundred. the 20gb hard drive is $100 alone, so that makes up for the $100 price difference between the core and pro versions.

It makes me wonder what the hell some people do to their consoles that they are dying all the time. I have a first gen PS2, sure the fan is noisy but no problems with it. I have a second gen XBOX, works like new. Same with my N64, PS1, SMS, etc. My 360 won't load a game the odd time if it's scratched bad (rentals), but I've yet to have a problem with it and I got it when they came out. My buddy bought his at the same time, it crapped out 6 months later, and it cost him $100 to get it fixed. If your's is only a month, send the damn thing back and get it fixed.

That's surprising... I think I owned 3 or 4 NESes in my day, and they all ended up succumbing to the fate or having a worn cartridge connection that caused me to put another cartridge in the thing to keep the connection down, or the dreaded "Blow on the cartridge Method" to make sure the cartridge connection didn't have schmootz on it.

And to add to the XBox discussion: I dropped my fucking XBox 360 on my fucking foot while transporting it to a different room in my house, and it still works fine, no problems. I was worried I fucked something up royally, but there aren't any problems. I sometimes think when the video stutters, it's because of the drop, but I think it's just because the game was made not to handle the framerate.

old skool NES had its problems, since then nintendo has made really long lasting consoles. I still have a super nintendo that I play
never had a problem with it or my old 64 or my cube.
I love sony but im on my 3rd ps2, event though the new slim one is pretty durable, not one disc read error so far

btw I hate microsoft but I have to admit 360 looks great on hd

Consoles will continue to have worse and worse yields (good machines/total machines) because they are getting more and more complex.

NES, SNES, etc were solid state machines: no moving parts. They also ran way, way cooler than current machines, and had much less components (and way simpler) than the current generation.

Microsoft is very good about replacing bad equipment, as is Nintendo. I don't know about Sony's reputation, thought i imagine they are comperable.

I treated my PS2 like a baby. Only thing that might've done damage was playing dvd's in it...but then again thats a feature of the unit, you wouldn't think it would die from doing something its supposed to do. My PS2 lasted all of 7 months... I think I'll pick one up eventually to catch up on some RPG's but I can't see myself owning a PS3 or any other Sony system...

Oh and for the Xbox people, my friend and his brother both had their 360's die within 2 weeks of eachother, they called Microsoft and are getting boxes mailed to them, sending the units back and getting brand new ones within 10 days IIRC. Not too shabby if ya ask me.

the original gameboy gave me problems, I went through two of them as they would stop playing the games.

I never used my PS2 or XBOX as a DVD player as I was worried it would burn it out, just like I don't use my 360 as a DVD player, and I'll be hard pressed to use the blue ray player in the PS3 when I eventually get one. I've always been paranoid that it would burn it out that much faster.

For the most part, I agree. I went through quite a few PS2's, but my 360 has been a rock.

My original 360 died, but MS replaced it rather quickly. The only issue I have with the new one is it's louder than the old one...other than that, it's been great.

Never had a system die on me, although the mechanical parts of the original nes broke. But the electronics were still going strong. It was that wacky cartridge insertion method the old NES' had.

If you avoid systems because of their aesthetics, maybe you should just give up gaming in general.

You do realize that PS1 had 7 model revisions, and the PS2 was up to 11 revisions ending with the slim line that doesnt have a fan in it to cool it.
How else do you think they sold that many consoles??!!

Xbox had three revisions.
X360...none..yet.

IF your system is not in a well ventilated area it will get bugged out.

Ive owned nothing but day one luanch systems and never had a problem with any of my Xbox/360 or PS1. And I run both constantly to the point the heat generated from my X360 heats up my room during the winter.

And the only way your console would be crapping out on you is if you get the RED ring of death lights.

And out right thinking Sonys ps3 will be flawless...you do know that shipments in Japan were cut by 20% due to part failure right. Their Blu Ray drives are shit, along with that format that they are forcing on everyone. Because they are tired of loosing money on pirated software and movies.

Sony stinks and I dont like em.:icon_mad:
