I'm on the way to work and I see close to a dozen tents outside a best buy. SUCKERS! I got mine pre-ordered and its guaranteed.

On Ebay, they're all going for MINIMUM of $2000. I saw one guy with a auction where if it went over $3000 he'd include a Wii as well. Well four minutes before it ends (it was at $2400), it jumps to $3250! Fucking INSANE!

I'm going to use part of the money to go buy a 360 and some games. I'll also set $600 for a PS3 in the future (depending on how it turns out). And then, I'll still have money left over after that. Thank you, Sony.

IMO, Achievements have been nothing but bad. They have really screwed up the on-line side of alot of games. People cheat thier asses off just to get that achievement for being in the top ten or in first place.

PS3's controller has "six degrees of freedom"? I think I might have counted all of 2 reports that even remotely touched this aspect. This was all because Sony wanted a worldwide release only to find out that there would be no way to build and ship enough by that date. this system weighs about as much if not more than the original XBOX and it produces insane amounts of heat, i keep mine in a well ventilated area

i got mine hooked up with an HDMI cable to my LCD HDTV and optical audio cable to my nice surround sound system. i can't say whether i like or dislike it just yet. the graphics do look a weeeeee bit better than the 360 but the difference is almost negligable.

HARTFORD, Conn. - Two armed thugs tried to rob a line of people waiting for the new PlayStation 3 game system to go on sale early Friday and shot one man who refused to give up his money, authorities said.


In Sullivan, Ind., a man was in critical condition after emergency surgery for a stab wound after he and a friend tried to rob two men of consoles they waited 36 hours in line to buy, police said.

Nationwide, short supplies of the PS3 and strong demand led to long lines of buyers, some waiting for days outside stores. Once the doors opened Friday, they pushed and shoved their way to the shelves in several cities to get at the limited supply. Two people were arrested in Fresno, Calif., after a crowd trampled people in a parking lot.

It was about 3 a.m. when the two gunmen in Putnam, a town of about 9,000 residents in northeast Connecticut, confronted 15 to 20 people standing outside a Wal-Mart store and demanded money, said State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance.

"One of the patrons resisted. That patron was shot," Vance said.

Vance said the gunmen fled after shooting Michael Penkala, 21, of Webster, Mass., in the chest and shoulder. Penkala was in stable condition at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Mass., with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, Vance said.

Police were searching for the suspects, both believed to be in their teens, Vance said. He said one was wearing a ski mask and brandishing a handgun, and the other had what appeared to be a shotgun.

About 30 miles away, another shopper was beaten and robbed of his new PlayStation 3 just minutes after he bought it at a store in Manchester, police said.

The shopper told police five men surrounded and beat him as he left the Shoppes at Buckland Hills.

Police Sgt. Chris Davis said the attackers pushed one of their cohorts out of the car as they drove away. That man, a 17-year-old from Windsor, was charged with robbery, larceny, assault and breach of peace.

Four other teenagers were arrested, and more arrests were expected, police told WTNH-TV late Friday.

Andrew Templeton, 20, and David Wiggins, 28, of Sullivan, Ind., were assaulted by two teens after waiting for 36 hours at a Super Wal-Mart, police said.

They were unloading their PlayStation 3s from their car when two teens approached them carrying a chain and a tire iron and demanding their consoles, said Sullivan Police Chief David Story.

A fight broke out. Wiggins' nose was broken, and he stabbed one of the attackers, Dylan Moss, 19, police said. Moss was in critical condition after surgery, officials said.

Sullivan County Prosecutor Bob Springer said he plans to charge Moss and accomplice Dustin Fagg, 19, with felony robbery.

Elsewhere, two men wearing black ski masks and sunglasses made off with five consoles after holding two employees at gunpoint at an Englewood, Ohio, video game store Thursday night, police said.

A Pennsylvania teenager was also robbed of his new PlayStation by a man who tapped on his car window with a handgun in Allentown, police said.

In Lexington, Ky., someone fired BB pellets from a passing vehicle at people waiting outside a Best Buy store, according to WKYT, whose own reporter said she was among four people grazed while she interviewed buyers in line.

Police fired a talcum powder ball at the ground outside a Target store in Henrico, Va., to get the attention of an unruly crowd of about 350 people who were waiting to buy one of the shop's eight consoles, police said.

In McLean, Va., police fired pepper pellets Friday morning to subdue a rowdy crowd of about 200 people outside a Circuit City store at Tysons Corner Center mall. One person complained of shortness of breath after the pellets were fired and was taken to the hospital, authorities said.

A Best Buy store in Boston, aware it had only 140 of the consoles, got smart about the big sale — its employees gave out tickets to the first 140 people in line so everyone could go home until the store opened.

Ok, let's try to dispel some of the lies:

Overheating - I ran my unit for over 12 hours straight playing the hell out of Madden and Resistance. It is in a poorly ventilated, closed door wooden cabinet. It did not overheat, freeze up, burn my house down, or kill my unborn child.

My brother manages an EB Games, and there have been no reports of demo units overheating. This lie is based on Lazlow being retarded and reporting on demo units at trade shows overheating. This was months ago. The problem has been fixed. No overheating of demo units is taking place.

The rest of the preorders will be filled as early as next week. This was a two pronged marketing strategy designed to take all attention from Wii. Guess what, it worked. Sorry.

The controller. I don't notice whatever the hell this 6 degrees of whatever the hell they're talking about is, and the '2' buttons stink. However, it has the single coolest function I've ever seen - It plugs in via USB cord and recharges through the deck. You can hit a button and check your battery-life on screen. Not sure if 360 or wii do this, and I don't care, but this is a nifty feature.

Blu-Ray - My DVD's have never looked better. I'm not about to spend 35 bucks a pop on Blu-Ray DVD's, but it does make my regular DVD's look much more gooder.

Backwards compatability - There are some hiccups, especially with sound. One example is the transition screens on Star Wars Battlefront I. The game play is fine, just those screens where it is loading.

Load times are still ridiculous.

Madden takes up lots of space 1.17 GB. Resistance not so much. Anyone that buys the 20 GB is probably going to be pissed.

My biggest complaint is there is a convertor to transfer your PS2 memory cards on to the internal memory, and that isn't out yet. So they're basically forcing you to buy a few PS3 games right off the bat. As with everything else - brilliant marketing, poor customer service. But the units are selling, and they're getting all the press, so I can't fault them too much.

Don't believe everthing you hear or especially what you read from hardcore 'Tendo fanboys still pretending it's 1988. I looked on the google for reports of overheating (there's none since the rumor started and died in October. That Lazlow - right on the ball.) and found a nice Q&A from gamepro:

Literally every in-store PS3 unit I have come across has frozen in my presence and after inquiry I was told it was a common error. I think my count so far is about 10.

Couldn't tell you whether or not that is due to overheating. But sealing a machine like that in a plastic bubble tends to make me think it is the case. Good news there. Don't seal your PS3 in a fricking plastic bubble and you should be fine.

As for your Sony stealing the Wiis press and hype comments. Entirely unfounded. If anything, in any major form of media it's the Wii that has stolen the PS3's attention and typically because the PS3's graphics only get it so far. The Wii's unique and fun control scheme as well as its pricepoint and availability seems to make many ears perk up. But don't believe me. Try reading the intarnats, watching the tele, or just check out a recent newspaper/periodical.

Every story you saw this week was on the PS3 and the only time Wii was mentioned it was an article comparing the two. Even on Saturday the buzz was about the previous day's sale of the system. Wii dominated the news late Saturday and all of Sunday, but that doesn't make up for the week of press the PS3 got.

Played the PS3 for about 2 days worth of play. No problems on my end. It puts out a lot of heat but it managed.

When playing COD3 it's weird actually being able to riflebutt a nazi by swinging my arm quickly to the side. So the 6 axis works rather well. Resistance:FoM is a fun game to play. It's like HL2 mixed in with BF1942.

The graphics are top-notch across the board and the load times are higher than regular games but still managable.

Overall, not a bad unit.

Thats odd, my friend got a call the day before launch asking if would mind pushing his preorder back till the christmas batch of units sent out. He had his preorder with gamestop dunno if that applies for all distributors.


Blu-Ray - My DVD's have never looked better. I'm not about to spend 35 bucks a pop on Blu-Ray DVD's, but it does make my regular DVD's look much more gooder.

Could it be from using the upgraded cables? Not discounting it but I didn't hear in any reviews that blueray players improve current dvd images.

I'm in no rush to get my PS3. Probably wait til March or April when I'm able to walk into a Gamestop and trip over them(which I've noticed has happened with the 360, first hard to find, now there are so many out there!!).

For the lucky few who got a PS3, I have to ask... how is the MotorStorm demo? That game looks fucking amazing!

So far the only negative I have for the PS3 is there's so little in the store and you can't navigate away once a download starts.

Ok, played the demo. It's pretty neat. I haven't played an off-roader since PS1 but the environment felt pretty alive despite fairly mediocre graphics. It seems like they spent more development on the physics engine. You can actually be destroyed if you hit a rock too hard. Not to mention your car takes damage and dirt as a real car would. They limit you to one track on the demo and a choice of 2 race types with 2 vehicles a piece but it's not too shabby.

The 6 axis controller can be used instead of the joystick to control the vehicle but it's rather cumbersome. I wish you could venture off track but it resets you back onto it if you stray too far. Anyway, going to bed.

Yea, that was pretty neat. Like I said, they used a pretty neat hpysics engine to make sure the car responds as a real car would. The first time I had a glancing blow at max speed into a rock and saw my car whip through the air as it went flying into a thousand pieces I had a perverse glee.

On the bike I took a hard turn spun out and came to a rest only to be T-boned by the guy behind me was pretty nifty also.
