Well the Eragon new movie is coming out in 29 days I'am a fan of the books , the cast is actually pretty good including Jeremy Irons playing Brom ...
The probably had to change the movie a lot because I think the first book is over 400 pages ....
I can only hope they don't turn this thing into an abortion, yet I still look forward to it ..

John will do a pretty job playing the King eventhough in the books he is still an unrevealed charcter.....
So I can only wonder what he might do in the movies as there is nothing so far from him in the books except giving other people orders

From imdb:
Eragon:
In his homeland of Alagaesia, a farm boy happens upon a dragon's egg -- a discovery that leads him on a predestined journey where he realized he's the one person who can defend his home against an evil king
So a small person finds something that holds the key to an evil king taking over the world. Sounds super original. Fuck Hollywood.

Could you tell me how a story about a boy who becomes bonded to a dragon has anything to do with a trilogy that doesn't have a single dragon in it?

Could be flashbacks. There were alot of stories about how he came into power in the book.

What is your issue? It's based off of a great book. There should be more movies based off of fantasy books. So many great stories to be had...

All fantasy books are LOTR ripoffs. Therefore all fantasy movies and games (D&D, Everquest, etc.) are ripoffs of LOTR.
Having said that, I'll pass.

I thought Narnia was going to bomb, so I can't say shit. People seem to love this stuff.
Nothing better than fantasy. It's all I read.
The Dragonlance Chronicles still could be the best trilogy ever written.

The Hobbit had a dragon as a main part of the adventure and I think the Nazgul rode dragons.
It looks kind of like LOTR meets Star Wars.
I've never heard of this Trilogy, but I do agree more fantasy books should become movies and this does look good both visually and the story line even if it's slightly borrowed.

Indeed, there was a dragon the hobbit but the Nazgul rode Fell Beasts.
I highly recommend you read Eragon, book two is in hardback and third isn't even finished yet.

But it keeps the nerds busy and out of public places, so I'm fine with that.

It is but Eragon is a little too close to LOTR but one I feel that is really not that close to Tolkien is Harry Potter , J.K Rowling goes more into the Grekk myths for her characters and she has good storyline which isn't that closely realted to any other books I have read

I've never read the books, but I was interested in the movie, but there seems to be no buzz about this movie.
When LOTR and Narnia were getting ready to come out there was promotions everywhere. For Eragon, I've seen only a handful of commercials.
And as of a week ago Fox cancelled a screening of the movie for actors and their representation, so I'm guessing its not that great.
First time director, lead actor is his first movie and Fox, they destroyed Fantastic Four, and Halo is now cancelled. I think they should just keep away from doing big movies like this.

To say movies like this are LOTR ripoffs is kind of hard I think. If you consider that LOTR is probably the grandfather of modern day fantasy everything has to borrow from it a little bit but that doesn't make it a rip off. I am a bit concerned with this movie, like I am with any fantasy movie. No matter how good the source material is, often times the focus on efx and cgi kills a good story. We will see what happens

Once again, this has no comparison to LotR.
No elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins or any other "race" aside from human. There is a monster race, but it has no sililarity to anything Tolkien ever wrote about.
No "great evil dark lord." Bad guy is a king.
There is a type of magic, but so far, no wizards.
This book is filled with dragons, there was only one dragon in Tolkien's writings and Smaug died before LotR.
Dragons are not a Tolkien concept.
Swords are not a Tolkien concept.
Magic is not a Tolkien concept.
This story is only "too similar to LotR" if you consider The Grudge or Saw to be "too similar" to Cujo. It's the same genre, that's it.
I am a bit concerned with this movie, like I am with any fantasy movie. No matter how good the source material is, often times the focus on efx and cgi kills a good story. We will see what happens

From what I have heard or read so far that the movie is not great but the end battle saves the movie completely....
I have also read some reviewers completely blast the movie apart but then again everyone has their own opinion and there havan't been a lot of movies out that everyone likes ..
But if you are a true fan of the books then you will definitely appreciate this movie ..

14% which makes it a rotten ...
EDIT:13 % NOW
Most of the reviews say that Ed Speelers(Eragon) is a stiff ... Jeremy Irons(Brom) is being praised a lot by most anyway... person I didn't expect to get a lot of good reviews was Robert Carlyle(Durza) but he is getting a lot of good reviews which makes the mpvie a little better for me ..
but one thing everyone agrees that the end battle at Farthen-Dur is really good and the special effects are great too...
Not looking too good right now ..
I will still watch tomorrow
Also these fuckos keep saying it's a kid movie but it's really not it's PG now after the MPAA ratings change this year ther that that this movie should have been a PG-13 so know your shit before you put a review out there

On another note I would like to see Stephen King's Dark Tower series made into a movie series.
A high budget mini series could do it justice. A movie could turn out okay, but it would be nearly impossible.
I hope they deliberately change the story a little for a Dark Tower movie/mini series. Change it just enough so that it ends just a tiny bit different:
Make it like a sequal to the novel versions, with Roland having The Horn of Eld with him throughout the movies. It's the perfect story to adapt in the fact that any changes needed to fit it to screen could be explained away by the fact that it is all happening in a new way. So long as they stayed as faithful as possible to the spirit of the books, it could turn out really good.
I haven't read Eragon, I usually drift more towards the sci-fi side of geekiness, but I'll check out the movie then read the books if it seems interesting.

The movie and book are very different actually I was amazed at some of the differences as they butchered the plot but other than that the move is still pretty good although for what they did to Murtagh's character I will not forgive these fuckers as Murtagh was one of my favorite characters yet they butchered his role like no one else's role..
The special effects were great which was to expected ...
The last battle was great although the Urgals wre not scary at all ...
Right Now the movie is second on the Box-Office as it is behind Will Smith's movie by .4 million ... I guess not bad for a movie which is on 14% on rotten tomatoes ...
And Baby Saphira=molestable :icon_eek: :icon_eek::icon_eek:

The good news is that you're going to get it.
The bad news is that they decided to make the films animated. So god only knows how they'll end up. The animation could be shitty and they might butcher the plot in order to make it more cutesy for the kiddies.
