right? yes. fair no. although i do beleve that its a good thing to get these scumbags off the street. what they do and how they do it is a little underhanded. (not that fucking little girls isnt) its like offering candy to a retard then takeing it away. i think they should be at least alowed to see what they were going to fuck before they lock them up.

I voted Unfair, I hate when people are lured in or trapped.
I mean I understand that it's good for society to get these people some help/prison time, but it just seems wrong.
Like when Cops sell people drugs in an undercover operation, and then bust them. Cheap.
I don't like when people are looking to catch you, like a cop who just sits there and runs radar on a road.

The thing is. Can really really convict them of a serious crime. They were not talking to a minor nor visiting a minor. Hence there was never any harm going to be done. Did they have intent hell yea. Even though the scumbags should be put away for a while. IMO this should only be a major mistomender.

yea but i think what the law says is that because they thought it was a minor it is illegal. also they initiated the contact with the minor, and then went to meet the minor. in most states, not texas, you can say all you want to a minor as long as you do not go to visit the minor.

Its unfair for many reasons, most of the times it really seems like entrapment, now don't get me wrong I love the show its funny shit, and there are some sickos that should be locked up but I think in most cases the people working for the cops in the chats push the people into showing up.

it is only entrapment if they initiate the contact with the subject. like if they use cops to sell drugs.

if you go to perverted justice or some other web sites you will see that most of these people manipulate the kids because they are usually emotionally weak.
but i am pretty sure that the cops say my parents aren't home, and the predators ask if they can come over.

I think its ridiculous really. and entertaining...
I think a lot of these guys are the type that likely would have never acted on actually showing up at some of these girls homes.... but the people that are setting them up make the situation so perfect, they cant pass it up. Thats where i think its entrapment. It reminds me of an episode of SVU where robert patrick was a rapist who got released... so Chris Keller (yes, i know) decides to Move in next door and talk about ****, go to the guys support group, and buys an unmarked van, and basically turns the guy back into a rapist- and then arrests him for it.
And a lot of these guys arent "pedofiles" in the traditional sense. They are not interested in banging a 15 year old girl because she's so young... they are interested because its all they can get. It doesnt make it right, but its not the same as touching your 7 year olds friends. if a 15 year old sneaks into a college party with her sister, and gets fucked, is the guy banging her labelled a pedofile by society? Maybe some parts of it, but in general, no. A lot of these guys arent looking to fuck a kid- they are just looking to fuck ANYONE.
I also think a big part of the problem i have with it is that they can show these guys faces. They have not been convicted yet, but because its technically "news" they dont need to sign a waiver. even on COPS, they can find a guy with a meth lab in his trunk, his wife has 2 black eyes, and he swings on the cops- and they still blur his face.... it obvious that NBC is using this as an entertainment show, and they should not be showing faces until there is a conviction or a release signed.

Here's my stance.
As a father I want these guys caught, emabrassed and lives wrecked forever. They belive that who they are talking to is a child and they show intent by arriving to the house. Kids are stupid and can easily get into this type of situation especially if the crave attention or lack a loving home. These asshats alway's say 'i am just here to talk". Sure they are there to talk but they show up with the intent of fucking a kid. The way the laws are written in Texas always start of with "knowingly and intentionaly" The guys know why they show up and they show intent by showing up. Would you say its unfair for Homeland security to be in contact with suspected terrorists about the purchase of a nuclear bombl? Would it be unfair to "lure" them to a meeting place with a fake bomb only to bust them? Texas has some of the strictest predator laws in the country and I hope they only get more strict for my children's sake.
Thats all

put it this way, if you go into a chat room and write "Hi, 14f, anyone wanna chat?" and a 35 yr old guy pm's you asking if there's hair on your snatch, if you like to touch yourself and if you want to get together to do "xy&z" and then follows through on meeting you. whether you are a 14yr old girl or not he is a pedophile and deserves to get arrested

yes you do live in a great state with great laws, my teacher told me if you catch you're wife in bed with another women in the act you can shoot her a law from the 1800's and not sure if it's true but the guy was obsesed with stupid stuff so i believe him, in texas it is illegal for a predator to contact a minor about sex without going to meet them.
but when did people that are trying to fuck 13 year old girls or boys have rights? if they contact a girl and go to meet them they should be hung on site. no trial no jury strait to execution.

I actually do agree with this. The show, and that is all NBC cares about, wouldn't really be affected if they couldn't show the guy's faces. And as you said they have not been convicted of anything so yeah showing their faces isn't really all that cool.
I just can't agree that the overall premise of the show is unfair in any way though. Unless you could prove that the people at perverted justice are actively trying to get these guys to show up, and it's clear entrapment, then there is absolutely nothing wrong or unfair with what they are doing. And I definitely don't buy the "this is all they can get" argument, if you're in a chatroom and you have a sexual conversation with a 14 year old girl and then decide to go to her house with the clear intent of banging her, you need to go to jail, plain and simple.

I guess i just think that these arent the guys that are going to force sex on anyone, unless the can manipulate them into agreeing. Id rather they focus on the assholes that take kids in the mall and off the playground.
I think legit child touchers should be executed, without question. Im not a liberal "they need help... maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan" apologist or anything, just the way they catch these guys seems a little off to me.
I think my problem with the dateline show started when on one episode, they made a point to say something along the lines of "State law requires in this type of sting that the person having the coversations be a member of law enforcement...... so _______ county sheriff deputized our perverted justice team for the day..."
well that requirement existed for a reason, and i really dont like that the police and NBC skirted the law for it.

It is fair.
Look, I agree that the show is less about "trying to make a difference" as it is trying to make a buck by sensationalizing a crime but you have to admit that this is a pretty horrific offense.
I never blamed anyone for their fetishes because you can't help what turns you on but some fetishes have to be kept in the realm of fantasy, and some others should be discussed with a psychologist. I think most people will agree that child abuse goes beyond even that. You can not and should not ever touch children whether or not they invite you over and roll out the proverbial red carpet. They are still children and thus must be protected by the law.
This has already been mentioned on O&A but it bears repeating: anyone who is into children and is on the fence about going beyond the fantasy world and venture into reality now has another good reason not to. Is the TV show being slightly disingenuous regarding their intentions? Sure it is. Welcome to the world of mass media. But will it make a difference, no matter how slight, in the rate of people abusing children? I suggest it will, and that is a good thing.

From what I understand, the perps go into a chat room that is labled as underage. And they're the ones who always start the conversation and make it sexual. That's just from what I've gleened from the show.
So yes, it's fair and very funny. But I voted "unfair" because Chris Hansen and his crew are a bunch of fun ruiners.

Shit, yeah. At leat with dateline they wouldn't have to worry about some raging dad coming after them with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch. At least that's what I'd probably do if one of these creeps was trying to nail my little girl (I'm so glad I don't have kids).

Because Chris Hansen was asked about that when he was on O&A and his response was that because they were a news program they did not legally have to obtain consents to show people's faces on their program.
