Looks like it costs $140 to send it in for repairs. A guy I know just had his mess up and not spin the discs. His warranty just expired so he went to the store he bought it from and raised hell until they replaced it for free.

what game were you playing, oblivion? it happens quite often in that game.

I have an array of problems with mine. I get 1 & 3 blinking red lights, games freeze, and after my 360 has been off for a while, I have to power it up, shut it down, and power up again several times before it boots up. I really love the 360 and alot of what it does, but the thing is a shit box to say the least.

Sobi your sig cracks me up.

Anyway, I'm thinkin about getting the Xbox360 for the ol' Holiday.

Are they messing up still? I thought they recalled them a couple years ago beceause they were buggy. How long have y'all with the problems had your system?

I bought it when it firt came out, it lasted about 4-5 months, I got the 3 red lights about a 5 months ago. They sent me a brand new one. Worked fine ever since. It freezes on SC DA but I think thats the game not the system. I heard that all the new systems run fine.

mine (a 2005 model, so i was asking for trouble) was returned to me in like 1 1/2 to 2 weeks, including shipping both ways. Usually they send you a new one, but mine is the same... though I think they may have gutted it and replaced the insides because I had to reconfigure the system when i got it back.

All new machines should work fine, and 2005 systems are on an extended warrantee. Its the ones that bought in early 06 that are probably on shaky ground.

umm if it is from the origional batch..they should fix it for free...I had bought an origional xbox first run and I registered it and had problems about 4 months in...sent it in and got a new one about a week later and a check for the postage about 6 months later.

Mine freezes up sometimes. Acts like a PC pretty much, but no real problems. I just got a Mac, and I wish they made a Mac-based console for gaming. Yeah I know I could just game on the Mac, but I like consoles better

I had mine, and called when it was acting up. They looked up the serial number and said "Ah, I see you bought the 3 year extended warranty". To which I said "Yeah, I did". Some poor fucker isn't getting his extended warranty because I never bought one.

Anyway, they sent the coffin, I put the carcass in, and had a new one within a week. Not a problem since.

My friend and his brother both had to send in their 360's to get fixed and they said replacing it is quicker so thats what they do.

I bought a premium, platinum (whatever its called) at launch, it lasted 6 months they replaced it for free within a week and I didn't buy an extended warranty.

But I do have problems with the replacement unit, once and awhile when I start it up I get 3 red rings and the screen tells me to call Microsoft.

I just spent the cash last week and now I'm all kinds of paranoid about the $400+ I just "invested."

Those of you who have had the problems, did you use the console in a horizontal or vertical orientation? I'm keeping mine vertical right now, so there's less surface space against my desk and more air space around the sides but I can't find anything online that says that one orientation is more safer.

Sparkstalker
11-27-2006, 12:30 PM
Mine was horizontal...I don't know if it makes any difference though. Tar_Baby, if your console was manufactured in 2005, then there shouldn't be any charge. MS may also let you purchase the extended warranty on it...I know I got mine over a month after the supposed 30 day purchase period...and a damn good thing too, as it crapped out back in June. But since you already called it in, they may not do it.

Virus, I'd suggest going ahead and getting the warranty...there haven't been nearly as many issues with the newer consoles, but it's still not 100% bug free.

I grabbed Micro Center's one year replacement plan for $32 (one year in addition to M$'s standard warranty, 30 days I believe?) So that gets me to mid-December 2007 before any repairs are out of my own pocket.

Speaking of Micro Center -- If you're reading this thread because you're up in the air about the 360, Micro Center is offering a $100 rebate on all 360 consoles purchased before December 3. You have to visit a retail location, however, but there are a bunch scattered across the U.S. I got mine in Cambridge, MA.

My buddy called them over the weekend as his 360 died on him about a month ago and he had since bought a tard pack 360. Anyway the tech asked him when did he buy it. He said at launch last year. The tech then had to ask his supervisor something, he came back with go ahead and send it in and we won't charge you the $140 for the repair. Pretty cool.

Here's the thing with my 360... I was moving it one day, and I dropped the thing on my fucking foot, hard drive first. I bought it back in May. I'm still playing it now. When you move your 360, does it sound like something is loose inside of it, or is it silent (I'm thinking this sound I'm hearing is something to do with the DVD Drive mechanism)? I'm wondering if I need to return it. I have not had any problems, though. The only thing I've noticed is framerate drops in Cutscenes for Gears of War (which I hear does happen, and it's not really a framerate drop, it just seems to stutter, but nothing obnoxious.) and framerate drops in the menu of Madden 07 (which seems normal). Everything else runs like a dream... I'm shocked I didn't do more damage to the unit by dropping it.

There's some little loose part inside that senses the orientation of the unit, so the green circle of light (or whatever the fuck it's called) lights up correctly.

I found a couple of DIY fixes to the 360 "Ring of Death" problems, neither of which I am recommending:

Some people have had luck squeezing the sides of the Xbox... (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-620136425659755445)

...Or you can just Fonz the fucking thing. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIARuzFOExc&eurl=)

Sparkstalker
12-01-2006, 05:14 PM
My guess is those are only temporary fixes. When my started fucking up, it would work, then not, then work again. I'm hoping I can get it to work some before the coffin arrives. But when it does, it's going back. I'd rather have one I didn't have to worry about. Besides, since the current one I have was a refurbed launch unit, it's louder than my original one. Hopefully, I'll get an 06 console back...

Microsoft gave FREE service to ones built before the 1st of the year, so I sent it in before thanksgiving, and just got the replacement one yesterday. Free.

Just sent in my unit (I had to pay the $139 + $40 shipping...$180 to repair the fucking thing). My xbox still worked but the disc drive wouldn't stay closed

So would it stay shut without a game in there?

TehSexorz
12-06-2006, 07:47 PM
No, it wouldn't close heh. If there was a game in it it wouldn't close, if there wasn't a game it would get stuck and not even read.

Pretty much the disk drive wasn't realizing that it was closing and that the eject button was being continually pushed.

Weird...I've never seen that one before.

Anyways, coffin 2.0 arrived last night, and it's on it's way to McAllen, TX for a proper burial. Hopefully the new one will arrive before Christmas.

So I got a new 360 for one that was almost a year old.

best way to go is with the Gamestop warantee - i am on my third right now, & all I had to do is just walk in & get a new one... so far no problems with this one.. I hate the issue of "7-10 day wait" then to discover they may send you a refirbished one back...
