I want a next-gen console. But I can't really decide.
Xbox360 is what I'm leaning towards, but the Wii looks extremely fun, and the PS3's graphics I have to say look a little better than the 360's.
I need some pros and cons of anyone who owns these systems. I doubt anyone here has a PS3 except for whoever tattooed the thing and won the thing with the thing, but any input on the Wii vs the 360 would be great.
I hear that you can get a Wii and a 360 for the price of a PS3. Should I just do both, then?
So far here's what I see.
XBOX360:
Pros: Great graphics capability, control that I'm used to, Halo 3 :P, lots of games.
Cons: I hear its glitchy, and a lot of you guys have been complaining about needing repairs. There's also the whole deal with XboxLive not being a free service. And the only game that really exploits the graphics of the system well is Gears of War.
Nintendo Wii:
Pros: Unique controller, unique gameplay, really fun games. That Zelda game looks bad ass. Also, it's a very affordable system.
Cons: I am the type of gamer that wants mind-blowing graphics. The Wii graphics look very similar to that of the GameCube, which was pretty much an improved N64.
Playstation 3
Pros: The graphics on this thing look great. Free online gameplay.
Cons: THE FUCKING PRICE!!!!, also it just launched which means even if I want to pony up the cash, it's going to be almost impossible to get my hands on one. Also, it looks like all the games on this thing are also available on the 360.
I need some input people. What's the right choice?

I have a 360, and would get it again. First gen had some issues, but they are resolved now. Plus, the library of games on it are getting better all time. There are some killer game out now, but it depends on the type of games you like.
Wii looks interesting as well, but I am still in a wait and see mode. PS3 I am not interested in at all right now.
I would say the best bet if you HAVE to have one now, is the 360, but who knows. I only say that because it is possible to get one right now. Keep in mind that if you plan at all on upgrading your DVD player in the future, the PS3 does that for you for free. If you want all the stuff that the PS3 offers standard (next-gen DVD, Wi-Fi, and online gameplay) you end up spending alot more on a 360. I think the PS3 will end up having a few big bugs, but it's also possible they wont have more than have already come up. There is the backwards compatability issue, but sony is already working on fixing that which is more than can be said for Xbox. There also seems to be no heating issues that were as bad as teh 360.
Really, I would say wait just a bit longer. 360 has some bugs to work through, and I don't think we will see the real power/bugs worked out of the PS3 until the middle of next year. You could always buy a 360 and sell it later to get a PS3. Thats what I did, though I am waiting until next year to pick up the PS3 for myself.

Dude the online service cost money because its AMAZING , xbox live is the best online service for multiplayer games so its worth it. Theres no more bugs and systems failures anymore its all taken care of, most people i know with it never had problems with it, all the games that come out for both sytems will probably always be better on the 360 and right now all the good games come out for 360. Its not as much as the ps3 which i can see having major problems and not alot of games just yet, wii is cool but if your a serious gamer and don't just want to play zelda and mario buy a 360, ps3 seems like a piece of crap, and wii i'd get too later down the line........360 it is buddy

Shooter, if you've got the cash for a PS3, you can get a Wii, two extra full controllers, an SD card and at least two games for the same price. Just look at the Wii thread right now - nobody will shut up about it, and a couple Wackbaggers went to NYC today just so they didn't have to wait anymore.

I think all the arguments have been covered already. If graphics are your thing, then it is either the 360 and PS3, even though the Wii graphics still look nice enough. The graphics will be the same on both the 360 and the PS3, the major difference is whether you want the Blu Ray player or not and which controllers you like. If you want the Blu Ray then go with the PS3.
There really won't be enough exclusives on either console to justify the price on either so don't use that as a deal breaker. 360 has better exclusive shooters (Gears of War and Halo 3) and PS3 has better action exclusives (MGS mainly).
I really want a chance to play with a Wii before buying one but I don't see it happening since my friends suck. I could see how the Wii chucks would get very tiring and the novelty would wear off, but it might be great. Plus Wii has Zelda.

Firstly the Gamecube was the second most powerful console graphically last gen. It was definitely not merely an improved N64.
Secondly, and more to the point, the Wii's graphics are nowhere near the PS3 or 360 but may be better than you expect. Zelda's graphics are not Wii-level graphics.

Wii, because so many of their games are being reported as fucking fun. Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, and a few others have been called perfect by many a professional game reviewers. On top of which Wii will have the most games come out for it.
For less than the price of a PS3 you can get a Wii Action Pak from Toy'S R Us which is 5 games, controllers, the system of course, and a few other things.
Also a Wii will most likely last a LOOOONG time while a PS3 is probably gonna burn out on you eventually.

Everyone that gets so wrapped up in graphics forgets that the worst system for it this gen was the PS2...the one more people had. Funny how it didn't bother them then.
My advice, if you're even considering spending the money on a PS3, get both the 360 and the Wii. That way, you get the unique play experience of the Nintendo, and the horsepower of a hi-tech console with the 360 all for about the same price. Sony already blew it with the big exclusives, so most games are going to be on both systems.

I'm just starting CoD3 but so far it's pretty bad ass. The controller makes the Wii. I'm dropping my gym membership when it expires. I get almost as good of a workout playing the Wii. :)

When did this happen exactly?
They're basically the same. It's going to do depend on the individual game/developer. Not a SINGLE game on PS3 looks better than Gears of War.
Instead of even considering PS3, get a Wii and a 360. Best of both worlds. PS3 offers little to nothing unique and everything it does (online, motion sensoring) is done better on the others.
Wii gets you the new gameplay experience and 360 gets you the graphics.

MS actually said some time ago they planned a PC version of GoW along with Epic. Personally, I DEFINATELY see it happening for Vista, but as a DirectX 10 ONLY title. UE3 (used for GoW) is already confirmed to work with DX10.

I've decided on getting the 360 for Christmas....
I don't have an hdtv and dont really plan on getting one for another couple of years. And until the industry decides on a format, why pay up front for it now?
The 360's built on the first press are no doubt buggy. The newer ones are bound to have most of those issues worked out now through quality control. The PS3 is bound to face the same issue.
Games!!! Halo3, Halo Wars, Halo 2 maps, Gears of War, GRAW, and FEAR.
I've also read reviews killing the PS3 interface. The NY Times pretty much trashed it. It's the same format as the PSP and it doesnt translate well to the living room. I'll give it to Msft, they really got it right with the XBOX Live.

Oh, and my vote is definatly the Wii. I haven't enjoyed playing a system this much since the NES.
Gotta be the 360. It all comes down to games and the game lineup for the 360 is great and only getting better. Both Wii and PS3 have alot of catching up to do and, untill they do, there is no reason to consider the other consoles till you have a 360.
When did this happen exactly?
They're basically the same. It's going to do depend on the individual game/developer.
Not true, the PS3 is, by far, the more powerfull machine. It's not apparent now, but you have to listen to developers. Bethesda, when talking about porting Oblivion for the PS3, said they were able to ramp up the graphics far higher than the 360 and PC versions. Better draw distance, almost completely eliminating object pop-up, far better lighting effects. They say the difference is very noticable.
I hear the 360 gets REEEAALLLLY hot.
Comments?
It's not as bad as they say. The hot comment usually comes from people that keep the console in tight or enclosed spaces with poor ventilation.

I have a first gen 360, and love it, no problems. Live is an amazing system, the games are awesome, the wireless controller works great. I would recommend it to anyone.
I want a PS3 but the two biggest things that are keeping me from getting one for a while is the cost and the fact that all the big games it's getting are all pretty much on the 360.
The Wii I'm curious about, the whole controller turns me off a bit, but I want to try it. I like how you can play all the GC games on it, but also play the old school games as well if you dl them.
Personally, go with the 360 right now, most games, amazing graphics, great setup

I just killed the corpser, looked awesome on my 61" DLP. I've only played 480p games on it until the 360, so the move up to hi-def gaming content is sweet. I also bought it at Microcenter since they have a $100 of rebate.

There was a link on one of the other threads that gave a better look into the PS3 vs 360 graphics battle. It generally said that most of the shared games will be ports from the 360 to the PS3 so the graphics will be limited for the PS3. They also said that the PS3 has the better processor, but the 360 has the better GPU which makes the 360 a bit better to program for and slightly more powerful.

If you can play online, get Xbox 360 for Xbox Live if nothing else. It's fucking incredible what you can do. I've always downplayed online gaming until I actually bought a machine and hooked it up. Best... invention... ever.
If you have an HD-TV, that's two reasons other than the amazing quality of most of the games and of the system itself. You won't regret a 360 if you're a moderate-to-hardcore gamer, i promise.

It all depends on what you want. For good games and a great online experience, go with a 360. For innovative controls, go with a Wii. For a "you get what you pay for" online experience, and a "look we can do motion sensing too" controller, get a PS3...

I can only speak to the 360...Have had it about 4 months or so...the interface is brilliant and just the little things like the ability to stream music/photos/vids from other computers to it, the retro arcade, free playable demos, etc...It's just rock solid and the blade interface is very un-microsoft...As soon as I get the HD DVD extention then i'm set...that rounds it out and keeps it in the lead among the others...as no way BlueRay is going to become the standard.
Sparkstalker
11-27-2006, 04:53 PM
It's not just retro arcade games either. The original stuff like Small Arms (http://www.smallarmsgame.com/) is brilliant. And one more knock on the PS3 - if you've got an HDTV that doesn't do 720p (e.g. only 480p/1080i), well, you won't be playing in HD... KakTheInfected
11-27-2006, 05:03 PM
The only thing there worth mentioning is a cheap Blu-Ray player and hell, if the Blu-Ray is dominated by HD-DVD, that won't even be a factor. Besides, until Sony fixes the issues with downscaling to 480p it's going to be pretty useless as a DVD player to a lot of people.

I just got a 360 earlier in the week at Gamestop(package with COD 2 and 1-yr PRP), and I enjoy it very much. I am a Sony fan, have been since I bought the first Playstation almost ten years ago, and will continue to be. I still have my PS2 and PSP and I don't intend to give them up. What led me to the XBOX was I was tired of waiting to get my hands on a PS3 and the XBOXs were pretty much walk into the store and grab one. So I broke down and decided to get me one, and I have enjoyed every second of my time on it. Easy to install, interface is definetly fun and different, games look great on my standard def TV, too. I also grabbed Condemned: Criminal Origins, which is a really good, creepy game. I still intend to get a PS3, but the way I see it, I can now stand to wait until the price comes down significantly before I buy one. After all, no one says you can't have more than one console.

I also grabbed Condemned: Criminal Origins, which is a really good, creepy game. I still intend to get a PS3, but the way I see it, I can now stand to wait until the price comes down significantly before I buy one. After all, no one says you can't have more than one console.
Condemned is showing up from Amazon today. Definitely looking forward to playing it.
