Hey guys, i recently bought Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 for the Xbox 360. I enjoyed it for a day, and the fucking machine scratched the disc. So whenever i put it in, i got to the first loading screen, then in just freezes....so i took it back to the store, and they wouldn't take it back. but they did try to buff the ring out of the disc. so i got it home, and i got to the 2nd loading screen...so now i'm pissed because they won't take it back if i return it....did i just throw sixty buck out the window?

I know there is a think called disk doctor, but I'm not sure how well it works. Shouldn't Microsoft give you a replacement since it was their machine that fucked up?

Also at best buy you can purchase a plan for a few bucks where you can have your disk replaced, when you buy the game.

I have used peanut butter serveral times. I just used it last night for Gears of war. Smear a light coat of peanut butter and wipe of with a clean cloth and it might work. Depending on the scratch. You apply and remove it like you would car wax.

Also if you have you XBOX on its side, lay it down. XBOX is known for eating discs and putting on the scratched ring.

I'd try the peanut butter trick... chances are that the data is fine, but it cant be read.

There is a product out there called the Game Doctor, and has several of the same under different names (DVD Doctor, CD Doctor, etc.) Basically, it's a device that uses a cleaning solution to buff out even the most severe scratches.

Here's one on eBay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/Digital-Innovations-Skip-Doctor-MD2-CD-DVD-GAME-Repair_W0QQitemZ130050197196QQihZ003QQcategoryZ486 43QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item130050197196

I had one before, but I don't ever remember having a disc scratched enough to give an opinion about its use. It's worth checking out, especially since PS3 and XBox 360 games are $60 a pop.

toothpaste will work much better than peanut butter. Get the baking soda kind. What you are essentially doing is buffing out the scratch. Make sure NOT to go in a circular motion, always go up and down.

What the disc doctors do is they use what is a pad which is a very very fine grit sandpaper and some distilled water. It grinds off the most upper layer of the poly carbonate. If the scratch didnt go deep into the disc, it should work, if not, your fucked.

Also be carefull not to scratch up top of the disc. If that reflective layer gets fucked up, your disc is fucked.

well its been buffed by the guys at the store, and it got past the place it used to freeze up. so i think it just needs to be buffed out some more....should i continue with these methods even after its been initially buffed prior to my first post?

I'll add a bit of knowledge I've picked up about discs...

Like someone already mentioned, whenever buffing or otherwise wiping a disc wipe from the center to the edge, NOT in a circular motion. The data is written in rings on the disc so a circular scratch corrupts more data than a radial scratch.

The actual media is on the label side of the disc. It is not sandwiched in between layers. Scratches on the clear side of the disc can usually be polished out. You want to get the scratched area as clear as possible so the laser has a better chance of reading the data. If you scratch a disc on the label side, just throw it away.

I've heard of using toothpaste and car polish but not peanut butter. I've used car polish pretty successfully. But again, don't polish in a circular motion. Go from the center to the edge of the disc.

The problem of scratched discs is exactly why I am waiting for the price to come down on the console itself and also for modchips to get better. I prefer to play backed up games from the hard disc so I don't have to worry about discs being damaged.

Peanut butter does work very well. I have used it on serveral games.

Also don't forget to put your xbox on the flat side and not stand it on its side.

try a different store location for the same company or call their customer service and see if they can get a replacement sent out to you. Tell them you live a good ways from the store.

if you have the receipt, dont most places just allow you to exchange the opened copy for another, but not refund?
