With the Homeless Shopping Spree 2006 coming up, the show is going to record the show on a Saturday and then play it on the following Monday (from what I've heard).

The Hard Rock show was edited fantasticlly, but without going to the event you did know how long Flav babbled on. Like that show, I would have liked a raw broadcast live on the date and also have the nice, polished version aired.

Even if it's a trainwreck, anyone with me on having the HSS just thrown onto XM raw and live.

Maybe the show will consider this.

Well if it's not gonna be live maybe they could do the show from the bus rather than the studio? Probably too complicated.

it has to be live. O&A need to throw us XMers a bone. Lets go O&A, show a sack and tell Free FM your going to air it live on Saturday. Who cares if its a clusterfuck. I dont want a polished show. The only thing I want polished is my knob!

It'd be nice to have the unedited raw feed as the event is going.
Especially if something bad were to occur.

cokelogic
12-06-2006, 07:26 PM
not gonna happen. I think free fm wants to be able to air it first. I think thats why the halloween show wasnt live. They pre-recorded it so they could air two versions of the Holloween show; clean and funny. That's the only reason it was pre-recorded. That Saturday night was a shock to people that it wasn't being boardcast. Play it twice on XM: the raw feed on Saturday and then the edited version on Monday (simulcast the clean version on FM). Everything is being recorded to be presented as a show anyhow, it's not like the format is changed.

I don't see how they can NOT do the shopping spree live, what made the shopping spree great in years past is all the PEST showing up and calling in with updates. This bit has to be done live, that way its more gooder.

LastDeadMouse
12-06-2006, 07:54 PM
Something I just thought of, won't they get a lot fewer callers from the mall and fans going to the mall if it isn't live? Hearing fans call in with updates is one of the funniest parts of the homeless shopping spree show.

**EDIT** Magaman and I seem to be thinking alike.

I wonder if the boys will be at the mall or in the studio like last year? I liked them in the studio, they could pick out the best calls that way.

This is interesting now. They'll be sitting in a studio not taking any calls except the homeless spotters? I doubt Ant's getting on the homeless bus.

It's not really Free FM's fault, the shopping spree would suck in the morning. It will be too bad if the event isn't live on XM though, or at least paltalk. That seems reasonable.

the show needs to be live. O&A started their following because of their raw delivery, and the fact they aren't afraid to bomb. They always know how to make the best of a show that would kill regular DJ's. i really hope this is live, hell i'm pissed its on a saturday!

Hoagie
12-06-2006, 11:33 PM
I don't know what O&A's plan is going to be in reguards to staying in studio or going to the mall. But recording and editing would allow O&A to go to the mall as opposed to just staying in studio. It would also allow far more participation in the better activities. I was at last year's HSS and we didn't get to half the shit we wanted to because of time restraints. Plus you only get to be a part of 1/5 of what's going on because groups have to split up so something is always going on.

I hope they do record it and edit it and then play it. HSS is the perfect bit for that kind of production. If you've ever been to one you really understand why. A lot of calls get picked up in the hopes of a good bit that just deteriorates or never happens. Recording prevents those boring calls and gives the opportunity to try the bit with more people, increasing the chance a bit might work.

I always liked the feel of knowing the festivities were occurring and fans were out buying homeless people beer as I was sitting at work. I don't remember it being that big of a thing, the boys would do the show and check in with them when the bums were singing or buying shoes. I hope that if it is overly produced its done well

That's interesting, because in previous posts people were saying that it was going to be recorded. If they do this live, they will have to move it to the afternoon. If they're doing it on a Saturday, this shouldn't be a problem, obviously XM has no problem with it, and 92.3 could just preempt the music for a few hours. I'll be there, most likely with Tippy Tom by my side asking me for money. Right Paul?

will it be saturday december 16th at the west nyack ny mall?
I can make that.

HummerTuesdays
12-08-2006, 02:02 PM
I believe the malls were:

Yr 1: Short Hills Mall. By far one of, if not THE snobiest mall in NJ
Yr 2: Walt Whitman, I think. I know it was LI, and since that's not NJ, I just don't know.
Yr 3: Palisades Center Mall in NY. I think that's Rockland County, but again, it's not NJ, so I couldn't really care. :) People like to say it's snobby, but it's anchored by Target. I hear they also have a Steve & Barry's, which for those that don't know, everything is $9.99 or less, or something cheap like that. It's certainly not the calibur of Short Hills.

My vote is for Garden State Plaza since they haven't gone there yet, however traffic in Paramus is going to be a bitch on Saturday. Anchored by Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom's. There's also a few places for the homeless to get, um, refreshements. ;)

I really hope they tell us where it's going to be in advance. I'd hate to have to drive into NYC and follow the bus.

I work within a mile of the Garden State plaza and pass it on 4 twice a day. The mall frequently closes the parking lot this time of year. Saturday would be insane. I would suspect that no one gets in that lot after 11am. Wouldn't be a good spot for fans. It is an easy trip from Manhattan though so it's probably on the short list.

I wonder how much money FreeFM is putting behind this event? If it's alot more than XM, That's probably why they can say weather or not XM plays it live.

I understood not playing the halloween show, since last year's was horrible to listen to.. but I think this should be live on both platforms.. they can do it on freeFM on a HUGE delay.. then on XM as well. It's not like either one has any kind of weekend programming, and they're not going to ruin ratings for mondays show, since the average person won't listen to the radio on a saturday afternoon.

FREE FM blows!!! They should have done the following for a live show. Move the Radio Chick to 6-10am. Have O and A take the 3-7pm slot. Plus you can have your taped affiliates have a live show. The show should be live and raw for people on XM no excuses on this one. This was one of things I was worried about with this deal.

Good sig there gene, didn't get to hear the payout of tuesday's show whether Pat got reinstated or not with the ifoce. Since not familiar with the geography of the area there's a snobbish type of mall in seacaucus that with the smelly homeless running amok would be radio gold, a friend of mine who lives back in that area says. With today's show where Big Red was introduced it adds that element to the show that something could go wrong if him and Tippy Tom crosses paths.

I have to agree with NFP - the way Opie was talking it seemed like it would be live on Free FM (not sure if it'll be on XM too), so that listeners can get updates & possibly get to the mall to join the crowd.

I can believe it could be live on XM.

But it would be pretty hard to do it live on Free FM. Not only the homeless people swearing at times, but what about the crowds of people? Maybe they would be on good enough behavior to not start a chant, but a few stray curses are bound to slip through, meaning rampant dumps or fines (AAAAAL).

I do hope it's live on XM though.

OK, as most threads here do, this one has seemed to digress. It's not a CBS vs XM thread. The boys explained it earlier. The show will be live on XM and live on Free-FM in New York. Other affiliates may carry it live as well, but sure as shit it'll be hacked up on FM. Nonetheless, the malls were (in order) Short Hills, very high end NJ; Roosevelt Fields, on LI; and The Palisades Center, not at all a high-end mall but huge and crowded. Since the question has been answered on today's broadcast (live vs. taped) the next question would be where and when will they announce the place. I think part of the fun of previous HSS was the announcement of the mall. They didn't announce it until the bus was either in route or just before it arrives. That is the best because the snooty mall is taken by surprise (remember stores closing the gates/doors at Short Hills). That being said, I'll take part in the recommendations of locations. I suggest The Westchester. It's in White Plains and rather high-end.

But... I really wouldn't be surprised if Opie was laying a decoy with that. Promos haven't reflected the announcement, and their site hasn't added it.

One place or another, I'll cya'll there!

I hope not. If it's north of the city or on LI , I can't make it.
I have something to do that night and I can only squeeze in an hour
or 2 if it is at the Short Hills Mall or further south in NJ.

There can't possibly be a better mall when it comes to the snob factor.

I don't see why he would do that. They want the fans there. And this year of all years he probably wants as many fans as possible so they announced it ahead of time instead of the surprise like back in the day.

I live a few minutes away and go all the time to just entertain my 2 year old, they just opened up an AMEX members lounge at the mall on the lower level, you just need an american express card to get in, really posh, with free refreshments/coffee, coat check, gift wrapping and free internet access. This gives the chance for people to reenergize and spend more money. I am a cheapskate and just go for the free coffee to go and change the dirty diapers for my kids in their restroom..

I'm sure every husband that doesn't have an AmEx card got one just to get in there while their wives are out spending his hard earned money..

opie mentioned carpooling would be wise... anyone from around middlesex county up for carpooling? i'd like to go but if it's impossible to even park, or having to park too far away then it's a waste of time.

Hi all, if anybody in the Wayne area wants to carpool, let me know. I'm thinking about leaving around 12 or 12:30, never been to Short Hills so a navigator would be nice. PM me here on WB if anybody wants to carpool or meet and caravan there.

I'm in southern Warren County if anyone is interested. I am trying to coerce my wife to go but she's probably going to remain a wet blanket about attending this bit of radio/Christmas shopping gold. You'd think she would WANT to go Short Hills....

If you want a bette look at the lounge..

Here is my review and pictures of it. (http://www.78west.com/wordpress/?p=140)

I came in this thread to suggest the same thing, if you can get them into that lounge it will be pretty amazing.

Each person with a card can take in one guest. All you need to do is show your card at the entrance to it, they check to see if it's valid and you can go around back and get lots of free stuff as Rumrunner posted.

Does anyone have any info on parking and what-not?

I'm tyring to plan a trip from Philly and don't know if the Train would be a good idea or loading everyone up in the SUV would be (more nicer).

Anyone know if a bus runs from the train station to the mall or if there are plans for an XM shuttle bus from someplace close?

So the HSS will be carried on XM, DirecTV, WFNY-FM, WYSP......and that's it? God, what's wrong with these people?

edit: and WBCN? It's mentioned on their homepage.

And I am sure with those "few" outlets, O&A will STILL have more listeners on Saturday than Howie does on any given weekday...

:EDIT: And let's not forget the Internet feed too!

Hatbox, I don't know about an XM shuttle, but here is the link to the Mall's mass transit info page: link (http://www.shopshorthills.com/infodesk/community/25.html>)

Hope this helps

Thanks Hummer.

I figure I'm just going to use the force and stay away from the no-parking signs.

I'll probly be 3 miles from the mall, but that makes for more lawns to urinate on during the walk back to the truck.

I wonder if there are any good drinking establishments in the mall or close by. A man can't shop without beer, now can he?

Im greatly looking forward to the HSS tomorrow afternoon but I must admit that I was a little dissapointed to hear that certain Free FM stations will be carrying the show live. Not so much because the live broadcast wont be 'XM exclusive' as many of us hoped it would be, but because of the potential for 10 minutes commercial breaks three times an hour. If they do the same amount of breaks that they normally do during the week than that could seriously screw up the flow of the show. AH, well, guess we'll just have to wait and see...
