I've gotten a lot of messages today. Some say "Happy New Year" some say "Happy New Years". Some people say "I'm going to a New Years party" some people say "I have a New Year party to go to". So I'm pulling a Bagel Lord here and posting this pointless poll. :action-sm Which one is it?

New Years is a mistake people make. What it comes from is New Year's. As in the new year's eve or the new year's celebration.

So it properly is Happy New Year, Happy New Year's Eve, or Happy New Year's Day. Not Happy New Years. Basically the s is to signify it is a possession of the new year. The New Year's party, the New Year's eve, the New Year's first day, etc.

You can use new years for plural though, for example I wish you many happy new years but then you have to be sure not to capitalize it because it is no longer a proper noun, it is no longer The New Year.

So in summation I don't know what I'm talking about and I really should be drunk right now.

It's yours when followed by day. "Happy New Year" or "New Years Day".

Perfectly correct explanation, and the moronic dumb fucking bitches on my show fucked it up today.

My New Year's resolution... get a new fucking job.

Everyone agrees, it's "New Year". But "New Years" is winning the poll. :arrrh:
