My family and my finacee suprised me with a trip to New Orleans for my 30th in a few weeks...been there a few times pre-Katrina and loved it but was wondering if much had changed since the storm (other than the fact that it's not ummm errr uhhh as dark there as it was)

I haven't been there. But if it it still standing, go to that place that has those French donut things. Forgot what they are called. Tastey motherfuckers, though.

I was down in Gulfport for a week and took a day trip to New Orleans. That was this last summer. Burbon Street is still there. To me the streets looked cleaner, but the smell of urine is still there. The Hooters that was there did not reopen, other than that its still about the same. Now the out laying areas were still a mess. The French Quarter it self did not recieve much damage.

I was down there in September for work, spent the entire week.

I'd only been to NO once pre-Katrina, back in 2002, but what a difference! Compared to '02, Bourbon Street is DESERTED after 11pm! I mean, on a Thursday night, at midnight, in September, you should NOT be one of the only people there!

It was one of the saddest things I've ever seen. What a waste of a fantastic city (well, PART of a city, anyway...).

Cafe du Monde is still there, and there's a great restaurant across the street from the cafe called Tujaques (or something like that), fantastic French food at a great price.

Then head to O'Brien's and get hammered. :)

"two-jacks" is how you pronounce it for what it's worth.

The French Quarter never was flooded. Most the changes from it stem from remodeling and post-storm renovation and clean-up.

Haven't been there in a year though.

French quarter is still ok. Was there back in March after Katrina. Burboun St pretty much survived but alot of the bars are on modified hours....opening at 4PM instead of noon, Pat O's was open for drinking but not serving food and such. Some of the smaller ma and pa places on the side streets had to close cause of the lack of business over time, but otherwise the quarter was fine. Compared to the time I was there befoe Katrina, it was just less crowded. Search out the Southern Comfort Drinking Tour and ask for Tony. I got his card if you want his number...PM me. The tour is a pub crawl with alot of the history of nawlins historic bars. Blast!!!

As said before. Everything is fine there. Bourbon hardly got any damage (besides the looting golfers). Some places still not open, but for the most part you will be fine. Any questions about things to do or places to go, let me know. I will be gladd to try to help.
