Rumors Swirl Over Police Reunion January 4, 2007

Rumors are circulating that The Police are planning a full reunion tour for later this year, and will begin rehearsing next month for a trek that could kick off as soon as May or June. 2007 is the 30th anniversary of the band and A&M Records is planning some sort of specialty release to honor the occasion. The label released a statement in December saying that 2007 "is the 30th anniversary of the first Police single. It is our intention to mark the anniversary by doing something special with the band's catalogue of songs. Needless to say, everyone is hopeful the band will support our plans and while early discussions have taken place, nothing has been decided.” A box set and/or a new DVD release is expected to be in the works.

Both Harp Magazine and Billboard have been told by sources that the rumors are true, and though nothing can officially be confirmed just yet, an announcement could be made later this month. The Police split up in 1986 and have performed together only twice since: at Sting's wedding in 1992 and at their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

Fans, as well as the music business, have hoped for years for a reunion of the legendary band, who broke up at the peak of their fame. It is expected that a reunion tour could fetch top dollar, with The Police playing stadiums around the globe.

While Sting has been reluctant to consider a reunion in the past, both Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland have been busy with Police-related projects recently. Summers just published his autobiography, One Train Later, while Copeland directed a well-received documentary on the band, using old footage he had shot on the road in the '80s.

It would serve them all right if the tour flopped. They are all so full of themselves now.

Someone should fuck it up between a song by asking Stewart about his dead brother.

Ruin every tour date for him.

I remember sting did an interview way back and said he would never do it because he's no nostalgic. I can relate on that. I never want to rehash the past, as good as it is, but it's probably easy when things are a lot better now.

If he's not nostalgic, why is he going around playing music from 500 years ago?

If they come anywhere near me I'll go. I was too young to go to any of their shows when they were in their heyday. Sure, they have no credibility and this is just a big money grab, but who cares? I'll fork over my $200 and have a good time anyway.

I didn't know The Police had any songs that included the lute.

Because those songs aren't from HIS history.

Nostalgic would refer to HIS history, not the history of the world.

Do Do Do Da Da Da thats I want to say to you.

Not many bands I would go see in concert, but the Police would be one of them. Hopefully its strictly Police material.

The documentary isn't all that great. No revelations, it just feels like someone's 8mm travelogue.

The Police were one of my favorite bands when I was a kid, and I'd love to see them. I just hope they still have their chops. And Sting better not even front about not being a fan of "nostalgia". He's one of the biggest sellouts in music, and his solo output has been uneven at best. I can't even listen to anything after Ten Summner Tales, it gives me such violent douche chills. His first solo album and the live album (Bring on the Night) are pretty much him at his peak after The Police broke up.

Ugh, I can't believe we used to even find that troll sexy when we were teens.

So that's acceptable, but it's not acceptable for fans of another radio show to bring up a certain FM/XM radio host's dead parent?

I'll see him although his solo stuff is better than most of the Police stuff.

so no new album, just tour?
that sucks. if they reunited they would be one of the few old bands with a singer that doesnt have cancer of the vocal chords.

The Police? Eh... Maybe I'd go see it. The only reunion I am going to get all hot-and-bothered over, if it ever happens:
