In tribute to the one Phillies team to win a world championship in over 120 years, post your memories and pictures. This great team was responsible for getting Ronnie B. through some tough times in the 80's.

We got to go to the 20th anniversary party at the Academy of Music.
My son went to school with Tug's stepson and they were both in the band
so we got to know Tug pretty well.
The band played for them when they went down Broad Street and we
all got to see the celebration.

Tug did his "Casey at the Bat" reading and we all got free copies of his
book " Ya Gota Believe!" It was great seeing all those old Champs
together one last time.

It was almost as fun as it was when they won it.

I had this album and listened to it countless times following that year.
http://i11.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/78/b0/9d35_1_b.JPG
I believe I bought it for $5 at the now defunct Kiddie City.

That team was the all-time highlight of my young sports fandom. Funny, I don't follow baseball at all any more. It's all football with a little mix of basketball now. But, nothing ever stuck with me like that Phillies team.

1980 - a GREAT year to be a Philadelphia fan. Lean times since, but thankfully I have those memories.

Good one Kyle. Ya gotta love Bowa. I remember a game, I think in 78 or 79, against the Pirates. They intentionally walked the guy in front of Bowa, who promptly tripled. Once standing on third, he flipped off the Pirates dugout. Ya gotta love that intensity.

Being born in 56, I've been alive for all of them. I don't remember
the Eagles Championship of 1960 because I was only 4 but I do
remember the later ones by the Phils, the Flyers and the 76ers.

Philly does win championships, just not very often.

BB! I'm not the oldest bastard here? I was born in 66. I wasn't around for the 60 championship. I am still waiting for that elusive football title.

I vividly remember the 83 Sixers title, the Super Bowl against the Raiders (I hate Kenny King!) and of course the various heart breaks by all franchises. But, that 80 Phillies team is engrained. It was an amazingly exciting run. The LCS with the Astros was an amazing series.

The windup by Ruthven, the three-two pitch. Here's a punch-shot to center field. Maddox racing over. He catches the ball! Phillies win the pennant! The Phillies have won the pennant! The Phillies have won the ball game, 8 to 7! They go to the World Series for the first time in thirty years! — Andy Musser's call of the final pitch of the 1980 NLCS

I will never forget the time Pete Rose slid into home and took out the catcher from the Astros during the '80 NLCS.

I remember the '83 Sixers championship. Ironically, what I remember most was my English teacher at the time mocking Moses Malone's "Do 4" chant. If a teacher said 1/4 of that shit today, they'd be out the door too fast to hear the words "you're fired!"

Atlanta-where we have more to do than cheer for teams who dont give a shit about the city.

Also, the influx of northerners is getting ridiculous, please ask them to return to the shit stain up north.

We also find it funny that people make fun of us when even the yankees had afternoon playoffs games that werent full and there are 4x as many living up there as down here. We also have the shittiest rail system in the states, no rapid movement and we can almost drive there as quick as taking our shitty transportation.

so which is it that your teams don't care about you and thats why you are terrible fans or is it your rail system... I am not quite getting your point sir... what do the Yanks have anything to do with the Phillies... I hate to defend the Yanks but you can't compare the Braves to them on your finest day...

And if you don't like the 80 Phils how about the 93 team...

But the last part of this is what intrigues me. What the hell are you talking about with 'afternoon playoff games.'

The Braves played the Cubs a couple years ago in almost all night games and it was 70% Cubs fans in that place for just about every game.

Atlanta is by far the worst sports town in America...and dare I say the worst city period in America. Seriously, what the fuck do you have there? Turner? Coca-Cola? Black Spring Break? And let's not forget this little gem:

Worst? I dont think so, maybe you would see more phillies fans not going to the playoffs if they made it more than once every 5 years, I just find it ironic that NY fans choose to make fun of people not going in atlanta but ignore their own stands being empty or fans leaving early in a blowout.

I still love the fact that chipper named his son Shea after killing them so much in shea.

Fact still remains that people wrote them off quite a long time ago when they had to lower payroll but they still kept coming back.

don't remember who

he had hit a grounder to second
Manny got it
pulled the ball out of his glove
and started looking at it ,as if reading the printing on it
and looking at the hitter with a smile on his face
and the hitter was yelling at him
"throw the ball you sonofabitch"

I NEVER post here, but totally agree. Have every game of his 72 season scored pitch by pitch and still have them. He won 27 games when the entire team only won 59. He won his 20th game on my birthday that year.

I went to the championship parade in '80 about a month after I totally tore my ACL. Could barely walk, but walked all the way from 20th & Market, to JFK and back again! Complete euphoria.

The 80 Phillies were a dream team, the 93 team was pretty awesome too. Loved Wild Thing. (and it wasn't his fault!!!!!!!!)
