I'm looking to purchase an 120' screen, preferably 16x9 & motorized for a resturant/club room format. I'm looking around at prices and figured I see what you folks would recommend.
Stewart screens look great, but they're a little pricey.. thoughts? Good sites to check out? Thanks..

Not too bad for prices and a huge selection. This is where I order my replacement lamps for my projector.

We have a 100" Stewart Greyhawk - its definitely worth it. Our projector is a Sanyo PLV-60, which is an old model, but we bought it about 5 years ago and it was top of the line at the time. We are in the market for a new one.
If you have an LCD projector, you are going to want a grey screen. It tends to make the blacks look blacker (no, I'm not being a racist). If you have a DLP projector, you will likely want a white screen. It adds to the brightness. Either way, don't cheap out on the projector or the screen. You won't be happy with the results.
I bought a Optoma HD DLP projector this past summer for my apartment and the picture quality is amazing. I am getting a crystal clear 150 inch picture. The only thing you have to remember is bulb life always try to have an extra bulb on standby.

FWIW '=foot and "=inch
A 120 foot screen would be quite impressive though.

thanks for the info... I'm checking out the selections of DS Lite screens at 120" x 120" (yes I know 120' would be pretty cool - damn shift key)
I'm kind of kicking the aspect ratios around as well. Would a 1:1 screen be best for 'any' use? We will be using the screen for both TV/Movies and presentations. I'd like to go with something 4:3 and just adjust PCs to fit, but the 1:1 wouldn't scare off the folks that aren't sure on how to set their resolution and aspects from their PC.. 16:9 may be a pain for PC presentations...
Thanks again,
-Kevin

a couple of things to keep in mind
1. don't cheap out on the screen unless you have to. The screen will long outlast your projector if you get a good one.
2. if you are getting a powered screen, you could get a 1:1 type screen, and either raise or lower it accordingly to the format of your projector (16:8 or 4:3), or you can adjust the limits on the motor so when you lower it it lowers the right amount, that way if you change the format of your projector you can change the screen to accomodate that. - of course you can do that with a 4x3 screen, too, and just not lower it all the way for your 16x9 image (thats what I do)

fuck..
I'm stuck with an 8' by 8' due to these stupid ceiling coffers every 8' and a contractor that probably wont have the 'time' to restart them.. oh well, so much for my 120.. would have fit the room perfectly. :icon_frow
Even better: NOW I have to run & purchase plenum cable. Fuckity fuck! I'm not pulling in plenum spaces asshat!! Grow a damn spine! They wont give me extra money for this shit (2.25 a foot vs. .65 for the riser stuff THAT I FUCKING DONATED ANYWAY)
And I have some dude making changes to the system I FUCKING designed without communicating.. I wonder if one of my 'useless' 1000 foot rolls of riser RG6 will fit up his ass. FUCK!
10 am... :drunk: again. Time to go and work on this..

pretty much to some degree.. the only difference is the way the DLP chip uses the backlight + the color wheel. I'll send ya a pretty simple demo of DLP and DILA/SXRD I show. PM me if you want.. I cant attach it.

depends on your projector... I dont see why not. I've played PS2s on those huge screens in the back of Best Buy stores.. :icon_mrgr
I had to use S-Video.. (just so I didnt have to calibrate the processor) but it was still pretty sick.

to add on.. if you like to see a good rant (pretty rare from me these days) save this thread. I may use it to vent, cuase if I loose it on site, I'm gonna be stuck paying out of my ass for a place to keep my sailboat.
I'm working and politicking with a Yacht Club that is half full of rather sensible folks, cool boat owners (like myself) that keep the bullshit to a min., and a group of old crochety bastards that I'm going to despise negotiating with. (I shouldnt have to) If I wanted to explain something repeatedly, I'd work with fucking waterheads. I get nowhere with these asshats. Same shit, same questions. Do you need a fucking pencil??
here we fucking go.. strap in kids!
if you'd prefer not to hear it, then go shit in your hat

Yes you can. I hooked my wii up to my projector and played zelda for a little while. It was pretty cool but since my livingroom is so god damn small I kept bumping the projector.
