Wish me luck...poker players any advice?

9 of my friends and I have been in a year long poker tournament 1 night a month and tonight is the last night...now gambling for $$$ would be illegal, but let's just say for the sake of arguement you really wanna finish in the top 5 in point totals. As of now i am in 5th place by 1 point..i'm 4 points out of 4th, 9 points out of 3rd and 18 points out of 2nd....there's 20 points up for grabs tonight so 1st is out of reach. I've played alot but this is the most high stakes i've been...hopefully i can pull some good cards out of my ass.

Since the top of the points are going to be playing a bit more tight, you can take advantage of that.

they may be but 2nd can still catch 1st and 3rd could easily catch 2nd so i'm not sure if they will play tight to keep their spots or go balls to the wall to try and advance..very hard in this game b/c no one is really a standout and styles vary from game to game

Other than that don't be drinking alcohol while you play. I can't tell you how many times that fucked up my decisions playing. Good Luck.

never do...no good can come from that...we play 2 games with 1 -3 -5 -7 -10 points awarded for the top 5 finishers in each place...so i think my strategy will be tight but agressive until i have secured a place in the top five and then maybe play a little looser to get as high as possible

that's tough if the feel of the table has bene constantly changing. I'd say come out firing and see if you can push people around that are trying to stay so tight that they get weak and build some good chips, then back off a bit with a nice table image.

Just a note on the legality of gambling.

It is not illegal for a group of people to get together and play for cash, as long as an outside party is not getting a cut.

Eg: there is 10 people playing poker and all the money goes into the pot and the winner gets that whole ammount that's ok.
If the host is getting a cut or a fee is payed to play that is the illegal part of it.


Of course legit casinos this doesn't apply to.

well i survived a night of shitty cards and bad beats...stayed in 5th place so that was good...350 reasons 5th place was better than 6th.

Should have known i was not going to advance on the 1st hand...dealt KK ...shit on the board and the ass next to me calls all my bets stays in with Q-d 2-d and pulls the flush on the river....also lost on JJ and my personal favorite dealt A-A in the small blind...no one stays in so i double the big blind to at least get something...BB folded his 7-2..we ran out the cards just to turn the knife and another A on the flop and the 4th on the turn...quad aces and no one played....final hand came down...i knew i was in the top 5 so i decide to take a stab at the best hand i got...dealt Q-c K-d...someone double the BB I call board comes out K-c J-c 10-c....so i have top pair...4 to the flush, and 4 to an up and down straight and striaght flush...2 other players...i go all in one guy fold other makes the quick call turns up A-c & 6-c for the flush..obviously the 9-c didn't show up....so would have liked to have moved up but i feel good considering other than the hands mentioned i was deal 9-3, 6-2 and 5-2 all friggin night.
