Is there a way to listen to XM in Linux? I've looked around, and no luck. I am very new to Linux, and have a VERY basic understanding of it.
I've heard of people listening in Firefox just using the regular XMRO interface at http://listen.xmradio.com

Depends on the distro you're running, but there's a nice Totem plugin for Firefox. If you're using Gnome as your window manager that is, since Totem is a gnome program.
Alternatively there is an mplayer plugin for Firefox as well that does the job. The stream is an mms stream though so you'll need the windows media codecs as well, again depending on your distro there should be a package available for this as well. I'm running Ubuntu at work and listen to the show/xmro via the totem plugin.

Check out the MediaPlayer Connectivity plugin for Firefox

I run Kubuntu & stream XM this way. As james stated, you may need install the Win32 codecs.

I've deul partitioned my hard drive because of issues with online media and linux. FireFox is by far the best way to go, although I've had problems with the plugins in the past hense the deul with XP, but in general linux is cool, I've been using ubuntu as well for almost a year.
Didn't I read somewhere that someone got XaMp to run in wine?

I listen to xm from the website(http://listen.xmradio.com) using firefox with mplayerplug-in but the problem that I have is that if I'm listening for over 2 hours) it stops due to inactivity and I need to choose the station again to restart it. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm assuming its a problem with cookies expiring but I haven't tried to figure out a workaround yet as it might just be a problem on my end.
swhitcomb: Have you been able to listen from xm's website. If your still having problems it would help if you post what distro you use.

I use the SUSE 10.1 or 10.2 distro (can't remember), and GNOME. I have 4 computers in this house, all run XP but the Linux one. When I put the 4th one together I decided I was tired of try to find WGA workarounds, and I'd learn Linux. So far I like it, but the little issues like playing online media bug me.

Why would you want to? Linux is never going to take off as anything more than a rack server.

It's free, and it's legal, and doesn't have viruses the way XP does.

yeah true but there are way too many driver issues...stable but not very functional for home use other then in a dual boot situation...doesn't hurt to know the OS but as a primary hell no

Well, that's why I have 3 other computers. This one is in my basement workshop, and I'd like to be able to listen to XM down here.

I've been using Linux for 10 years. Every release gets better as far as apps & hardware support. Check out this demo of Beryl.
