IsoHunt heads to Canada after ISP shutdown..
From techspot.com
"If you're a torrent watcher, you probably noticed that IsoHunt went down yesterday. With no notice it was just assumed that the site was taken down for copyright violations or various other piracy-related issues, such as their pending lawsuit, and those rumors have turned out to be true:
“Lawyers from our primary ISP decided to pull our plug without any advance notice, as of 14:45 PST. No doubt related to our lawsuit brought by the MPAA, but we don't have more information at this time until people responsible come to work tomorrow,” the site notice read. “We will be back in operation once we sort out this mess with our current ISP, or we get new hardware ready at our new ISP.”
All is not lost for the tracking site, however, which is now setting up shop in Canada. They have already acquired an ISP in Canada, and are planning to restore service either there or at their old location once the lawsuit is taken care of. In another statement, IsoHunt again declared the legality of their actions, citing that they wouldn't be “avoiding the authorities”. You can still visit the IsoHunt site, which is now being hosted on their Canadian ISP."
shit. i hope they go back up.

Update, Jan. 18
13:26 PST - SecretSquirrel
We've got our data in Canada, we're working on bringing the site back online. Hopefully we'll be done Real Soon Now.
22:02 PST - IH
Had to fight with hardware quirks, like on our shiny Raid array in the new database. It's screaming fast now, just the software remains to be setup across the cluster.
To those that asked, this move is a large upgrade in hardware, bandwidth and re-doing our infrastructure better based on past mistakes. So it's taking longer than just throwing up servers would have. Tomorrow is most likely when we will restore all services.

I hope it comes back. I don't know if I could ever live without these sites again.

Ok, we ran into more snags (mainly with network hardware) than we anticipated, but we are getting real close now. I expect we can restore services by today.
I just got access to my email on isohunt.com, and there is a staggering number of them from Paypal. I checked, and since Jan. 17, we've received about $4000 in donations. That's $1000/day. A testiment to how much you guys care about the services we provide, and especially meaningful to those of us working day and night setting up our new cluster (with hardware we have to beat into submission). Thank you.
To give you an idea of the extent of this upgrade, we spent $40,000 on hardware alone. These are hand-picked server parts we assembled ourselves. Monthly bandwidth cost extra. Kudos, your money is being put to good use.

Site was up for a few hours while we did some more fixing/tweaking. I really need sleep now so just a quick update.
* Mail sending isn't working from the forum, forum registrations can be queued until the activation emails will be sent out. This also means "Notify me when a reply is posted" (by email) when posting in forum will result in an error currently, so don't use it until further notice.
* Half the new servers are down due to driver/kernel problems
* torrentbox.com and podtropolis.com are redirecting here temporarily while we sort out the rest of the servers and config
* Indexing running, stats are updating. Be patient with the few days missing.
* With this upgrade, we now have multi-homed connectivity. It means once we get everything running smoothly, we can guarantee close to 100% uptime.
* We accepted about $6700 (NET after Paypal fees) in donations since we went down on Jan. 16. That's over $1300 averaged, with about $2000 for the last day alone. Indeed, people like you is the power of the internet, and for sure we'll need your help more in the future.
If you like to donate to us without registering first (doing so and donating will give you VIP membership), you can hit the Paypal button on this page. Thanks again for all your support while we were down.

SecretSquirrel - Sun Jan 28 20:32:49 UTC 2007
Sorry about the downtime folks, a couple of our scsi disks decided to take the piss in our DB box, taking down the rest with it. Doing some media checks, if/when I can, I'll bring everything back online. In the meantime, play this game!

UPDATE (SecretSquirrel):
So... 2 disks on our db box are showing massive corruption, hoping to have them replaced early next week. This is what happens when you're only given a week to move a site as complex as isohunt.com, when the original plan was to take a month so a thorough shakedown testing of all the hardware could be performed. Barring any major screwups, we should be able to hold on to it until tuesday, so be nice to my servers, please?
UPDATE (SecretSquirrel):
Alright, maintenance/fixes done, db mostly holding up, let's see what happens next.
UPDATE (SecretSquirrel):
After removing one of the scsi disks from the array, things to be a little more stable, had to check all mysql tables, took a while, sorry again for the downtime, meanwhile, IF YOU LIVE IN/NEAR TORONTO AND KNOW WHERE WE CAN LOCATE 2 36GB SEAGATE 15,000RPM U320 SCSI disks, model ST336754LC at a reasonable price, please gimme a shout in our IRC channel.
