At least they are both black! We know already that the first black coach to win a Superbowl will happen this year, we don't need to hear about how it might happen (like the next president)...
Yeah, that will be the head line for about a month now...
Lovie is the man though, so it's ok with me (because his name is legally Lovie)

I always said that there would never be a black head coach that will win a Super Bowl. I am wrong.
I am also wrong about Dungy. I said he would never get to the Super Bowl. I love this match up.

all we can hope for is now one of these coaches dies before the game or we will be having our first black champ

These 2 guys are pretty cool guys I really don't mind them being in there. If they were a pair of asshole black guys then fuck them. I have no problem with them winning, either one of them.
It had to happen soon anyways like someone said earlier its 2007 nothing is shocking anymore.
*P.S. I'm glad one isn't Herman Edwards, that would've been a tragedy.

agreeed. two quality men with everything to gain from this.
i know its been overstated, but how much more humble can you get, below being the lowest paid head coach.
and dungy i have always respected. not always agreed with play callin, but respected

I hate that the media is even focusing on this..... when is the last time we heard about "the first time a white fellow lead the NBA in rebounds", or the first time a latino aced 3 people in tennis.... it should be viewed as insulting and shunned by the black community, I view it much the same as when everyone oohs and ahhhs when a child takes his first step. Not the most grand of tasks, but it's eventful for this human to do it because, well they're not as capable as the rest of us at walking upright at that moment. Where is all the equality screaming and denouncing of racism from the "community" when their recieving positive acknowledgements for being black? I guess we're not really against racism at all, just racism that is negative.......
There are alot of story lines with this matchup that they can run with, but we're going to have the racial backgrounds of the guys on the sidelines in headsets shoved down our throats these next two weeks.

This is the conspiracy that the NFL had planned all along... the Saints were just a smoke screen...
I just hope that some one has the stones to ask the infamous Doug Williams question on press day...

I know it's real easy to joke about, but it has barely been 50 years since blacks were even allowed in the NFL. That's the freakin' big guy, the head coach. It's a big deal for blacks, don't take a shit on it. I think it should be recognized.

It's so refreshing to see a black person finally succeed in 2007. I mean all those roadblocks they had to cross to get a merit based job. I mean, fuck, who thought this was possible?

"For 24 years Marshall was identified as the leading racist in the NFL".[1] Though the league had previously had a sprinkling of black players, just one year after Marshall entered the NFL, blacks were excluded from all its teams.
yeah, you gotta love George Marshall, he tried to purify the game. go Redskins.
Just like Chicago's own Pappa George:
"Halas played an integral part in the segregation of the league in the 1930s by refusing to sign black players for the Bears"

Ahhh...the big story for the Super Bowl. There always has to be one.
I guess since the Saints fucked up and lost they need a new storyline.
It's not that big of a deal, but the media will make it one.

i want there to be a rule that you have to have so many white players on the field at all times. since you have to interview an african american coach, might as well make a player rule as well

Which is precisely why I will not tune into anything NFL Related from now until the actual game kicks off. I can't take hearing all the horseshit stories the media latches onto during that fucking week leading up to the game.
I'll tune into other shit so I don't have to listen to it. :icon_eek:

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I love how the media had a field day with the Dungy/Smith storyline and that they're the first black coaches in the Super Bowl, yet the reaction to Dungy being a speaker for a group who is anti-gay got nowhere near the same attention. Even though he has a right to his opinion, I'm guessing a white coach would not have such an easy time.
