I don't. Ever. At all. I estimate constantly. So I never really know how much money I have. It takes me about 2-3 days to collect enough courage to check my balance online... normally I'm drunk when I check it. I fear the normal things in life like spiders, heights, even fireworks... but no fear is bigger than checking my balance. When I withdrawl money, I never get a receipt.... I don't want to know. There is not a feeling in the world that compares with the feeling you get with a negative number in your bank account.... especially when you think you have way more.
But get this, I have a job I love, full benefits, good paying job by my standards, awesome credit, and not late on bills. Everytime I check my balance, I feel surprised that I still have that much money. I've felt like I have $50 bucks left in my name and then when I check my balance, I still have $500. I even have a plan B..... my rich wife. What the fuck is wrong with me?

When I was younger I had the same fear but eventually I stopped spending money on unnecessary shit and started saving like a bastard. As soon as I had a couple of grand saved up I balanced it. I've been up to date ever since.
That chick in your sig pic is fucking scary by the way. Good job. :icon_mrgr
EDIT: I just realized that this is my 2000th post. Congrats to me.

One last resort is to withdraw $500 in cash each month, put it in a plastic baggy, and put it somewhere in your room. Although it looks suspicious if you try to deposit $6000 in $20s at the end of the year.

My wife's an accountant and must balance the checkbook ever hour on the hour it seems. Me, eh, I couldn't give a fuck. She gets pissed like all hell when I spend money and don't tell her. It's been 4 years since we starting sharing an account...she should just get over it already.

I don't write checks anymore, I do all my bill paying online, and Charge EVERYTHING i can to the credit card....I use cash maybe once a month and $60 will last me 2 months...So the bank does all the balancing for me...and before I withdraw money I will do a balance inquiry if there are any concerns, but I keep a safe amount in there...

I use MS Money to keep track of everything. I have to stop shopping, though. I have way too many receipts to account for. But it does make things easy for me when I have to gather info for my tax return.

People still use checks? So you're the people I have to wait for to fill out those damn things whenever I'm in a place where there's no self check out?
Seriously. Debit cards. I despise credit cards and credit in general.

The only checks I use generally go through the mail or are presented at the time of service (doctors offices). Oh, and my home owners association fee gets dropped in the treasurer's mail slot. I also refuse to pay the $7 convenience fee to pay my gas bill online.
And just because we're balancing a "check book" doesn't mean that we're only writing checks. If you're using a debit card or paying bills on line, you should still reconcile your records to the bank's.

silly, you're supposed to balance your checkbook so that at the end of the month every transaction you wrote down matches what your bank statement says

I dont think anyone uses checks when they are out, thats why most banks give you debit cards now. checks are generally sent through the mail, for one time charges since reoccuring charges can be paid straight from your account.
