SEOUL, South Korea -- South Korean starting pitcher Chan Ho Park has reached an oral agreement on a one-year deal with the New York Mets, his management company said on Friday.

The deal would pay Park a base salary of $3 million, his Team 61 management company said, adding that the right-hander would sign a contract once he passed a physical examination.

Park was part of the San Diego Padres pitching rotation last season, when he compiled a 7-7 record and a 4.81 ERA.

The 33-year-old broke into the major leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994 and has also pitched with the Texas Rangers. He has a career record of 113-87, but has suffered a number of injuries over the past few seasons.

Its actually $600,000 guaranteed with $2.4 million in performance bonuses based on innings pitched. Not really bad for a back of the rotation guy and if he doesn't make the rotation its better than last year, when the Mets had Lima time waiting in the minors.

And he does still pitch, Park was 7-7 with a 4.81 ERA in 136.2 innings pitched for the Padres in 2006.

Chan Ho Park isn't going to be the #2 starter. He will be the #5 starter if he even wins the spot, which isn't necessarily guaranteed.

That 4.81 Era and 7-7 pretty much stinks when you are playing in one of if not the most pitcher friendly park in the bigs. He will make a couple of starts where you think hes great but he has the mental toughness of a 2 yr old with a head injury and will disappoint you in the end and you will call for his head.

QFT...nothing that spic does is bad...I am quoting Colin Cowherd "Stats are for nerds you cant put a stat on mental makeup."
Freddie Garcia pitched in a hitters ballpark in the American league but that means nothing.

It really is like talking to one of Sun Myung Moon's children at this point.

All of the flaws in your argument have already been pointed out by others. Good to see other people realize what nonsense this is.

However, I hope Towelie realizes that the 7-7, 4.81 ERA from last season is the best season Chan Ho Park has had in five years (and, as already stated, that's what he can do at possibly the most pitcher friendly park in baseball)

And if anyone doesn't see this move as a move of pure desperation, they don't understand baseball.

So let's recap:
1) Tom Glavine
2) Orlando Hernandez
3) John Maine
4) Oliver Perez
5) Chan Ho Park

:jump

Going to be a fun year.

Now, get back to telling us how Wade Phillips is the next Tom Landry.

You guys are really fucking retarded

Freddy Garcia is fucking AWFUL, AL/NL it doesnt matter...He's going to get lit up in that bandbox

And now that the MLB has a reliable HGH test I would not be shocked to see that 1 dimensional siverback Howard's HR totals dip by at least 10-15 homers

I cant wait to win this division by 10 games again...Kyle can start posting his Philly wildcard hopes in fucking June again...I mean the Phillies were out of the division race on June 10th...How much did that suck?

Chan Ho Park = AAA starter, maybe a long guy out of the pen to replace Williams who will be out till July or so

Feb 10th predictions

Mets- 96-66
Atlanta- 85-77
Philly- 75-87
Florida- 70-92
Washington- 60-102

Its going to be a fun year....Oh and for shits and giggles

Chicago Cubs- 72-90

Let me guess...Oliver Perez wins 22, Chan Ho Park wins 18 with a 2.5 ERA.

The hilarious thing about Towelie is that if Omar Minaya landed Freddy Garcia, Towelie would be printing up bootleg 2007 Mets World Series championship shirts right now and telling us tales about how moving to a pitcher's park in Shea, and switching from the AL to the NL makes him a GUARANTEED Cy Young winner.

You're going to learn the hard way that the '06 Mets are entering '93 Phillies land...but then again, at least the '93 Phils got to a World Series before they fell off the map.

Hell, most of the Mets fans on this board (except you) are concerned, to varying degrees, that the team is worse this year.

And as far as the Cubs go, as much as I want them to be as bad as you have them, they'll crack 80 wins this season.

I'm not thrilled with Chan Ho Park either. Minaya is just adding bodies at this point, and sees what sticks.
Aaron Sele was signed last week for the same reason.

The Mets want their 3-4-5 starters to be Maine, Perez & either Humber or Pelphrey. Maine probably sticks, but the other 2 are big questions. You need a backup plan and thats what Park & Sele are. If they are the 4-5 starters, or one ends up as the long man, it could be worse. Last year Darren Oliver was a nice surprise.

The Mets also added Vargas from the Marlins, young guy with some upside, maybe he impresses.

The more arms competing the better. At the trading deadline, we'll see what's availabe. Next year I think we get Johan Santana as a free agent.:icon_bigg

That would be fucking great.

I like the Park pick-up. Let's see how he does under the tutelage of the great Rick Peterson. He has talent and I think he can help this team.

i'm honored to have a guy on my team who once gave up two grandslams in the same inning to teh same guy (Fernando Tatis).
