Ok, I just got a 2GB Mp3 player, holds 500 mp3's. I was told that if you convert them to Wma's, you get almost double the songs on your player. I downloaded and bought a converter, Thing is, There is 50 different options to convert it. What is the best Wma format to use?

My choices look some thing like this.

WMA9 192kbps, 44khz, stereo CBR Quality
" " " " VBR Quality

Any help???

I did a search too, found nothing. Go shit in your hat.

Depends on the bitrate of the source of the audio. Chances are it's either 112-192kbps, so just using 192 would be adequate. I don't know what converter you're using but just look for "mp3" or "lame" converter and select the same bits/frequency options as the source wma.

I've gone back and forth, and I haven't seen any big difference between .wma and .mp3 at the same bitrate....

ok, I use MusicMatch to record my CD's to the HD. My converter is called Mp3 Wma Converter Plus . I record at 128 bitrate. So Am I correct to match the bitrates(from mp3 to wma), Thus making the file smaller?

In the end, no matter what happens, Is WMA going to be a smaller file than mp3? And Does CBR or VBR matter?

Thanks for the help thus far.

I doubt you'll see any real difference. Your best bet is to just run a test on one file and see what you get.

Or you can just use WMP to rip a cd you already have ripped and see what the difference in file sizes is...
