Am I the only one happy Valentine punched a wall? I think we are much better with the kid Gotay starting and using Valentine off the bench as a PH/utility player.
I agree, Gotay has more upside, Valentin and his braced knee were killing the Mets.

I said on this board that Gotay should be the starter last weekend. I thought that for the last month or so.
I really like the last couple of moves Minaya made the last couple of days, especially getting rid of Randolph's two worst cronies for the team: the batting coach Rick Down and his favorite pinch hitter in the big spot Father Time Julio Franco.
It's hard to bash the manager of a 1st place team, but I swear they win despite Randolph! I really can't stand his "by the gut" and not by the book decision making! It irks the shit outta me!

Good for Glavine! 8 strong innings and #298! Good for Gotay as well. Made up for his bad night yesterday.
As for the rest of this team.....
22 men left on base?
Matt fucking Belisle??!! shutting them down for 6 innings! PATHETIC!! It's gonna take HoJo a long while to teach these chumps anything! Can anybody hit with runners on that plays for this godforsaken team?!
And Delgado... Holy mother.... Can we trade him to Florida and get Mike Jacobs back?!
I'm on my way to the game, hopefully Perez will put on a good performance, cause a split would be very disappointing.

I like Milledge the last few days. Hustling and making plays.
Lets hope he keeps it up until/if Moises Alou comes back.
Maybe he can get Green some time on the bench too.
Only about 2 weeks till the trade deadline. I can see a pitcher coming, but the only other place they can add is at 2B., but theres not much available out there at 2B anyway.
I think we might add a pitcher, preferably a reliever cause i can't stand having Shoesucks and Mota, who without the steroids is avg at best. Other than that, i think that this is the team that will lead us to the playoffs and hopefully into the WS.

Thankfully the Mets took 3 out of 4 here! This road trip is going to be rough! I'd hope at least for 4-3 if they are to stay competitive against the Braves, who have a ridiculously easy schedule from now until the end of August. Good thing the Padres have been playing like shit lately!
I still think the team the Mets have to watch out for in the NL is the Braves. Besides taking 6 of 9 from the Mets this year, they are...
5-4 vs. Philly
5-4 vs. Cubs
2-1 vs. Milwaukee
5-2 vs. San Diego
4-3 vs. LA
In fact, the only team in the NL the Braves have a losing record against is the Marlins, oddly enough, who they are 5-7 against. If the Braves didn't have a dreadful Interleague Play, they'd be running away with this thing. They're kicking ass and taking names in the NL.
With another reliever and a decent righty bat at the deadline, and Pedro coming back in August, this is gonna be tooth and nail all the way to September! I'm looking forward to it!

The possibility of contributing to a World Series contender is enough incentive to play this year but the 300 wins is pretty much the only reason I would think he even bothered showing up. I played in a golf outing today, WTF happened?
Perez was doing great for 5 inn, pitching a 1 hitter, but it all came apart in the 6th. Here's a quick rundown.
Nate McLouth opened the sixth inning with a broken-bat single, and pitcher Paul Maholm followed with an infield hit. Then Perez threw away a bunt, allowing the tying run to score and setting up a five-run rally. Xavier Nady delivered a two-out, two-strike single for two runs, and Josh Phelps followed with a two-run homer.

I played in a golf outing today, WTF happened?
The Pirates just little-balled the Mets to death today. Ollie Perez had 5 UNearned runs. The Pirates had something like 3 bunt singles in a row, (Ollie overthrew Delgado on one of them) and Nady hit a sharp grounder that Wright couldn't handle. That opened the floodgates.
Joe Smith got roughed up and was sent to AAA after the game. It's a good move. I don't think the kid has experienced that long of a season and it's catching up with him. I mean, cripes, he was pitching for the Brooklyn Cyclones last year at this time. I think he'll get his confidence back down in New Orleans.

That was one of the stupidest decisions I have ever seen in my life. He had Castro in the on deck circle to begin with. Then Lo Duca gets hurt and now it makes all the sense in the world to pinch hit Castro and he puts in Anderson. And he puts the left handed Anderson against a left handed pitcher. Not to mention Castro is one of the hottest hitters on the team right now. I'm so glad I decided to bet the Mets in this game too. Thanks Willie.

Bill Robinson, hitting and 1B coach for the '86 team, dead at 64. A real classy guy by all accounts, and teams seemed to win wherever he went. RIP.
Dodgers instructor Robinson dead at age 64
Associated Press
LAS VEGAS -- Bill Robinson, who played on Pittsburgh's 1979 World Series championship team and was working as the Los Angeles Dodgers' minor league hitting coordinator, died Sunday. He was 64.
Robinson was in Las Vegas to visit the Dodgers' minor league team and was supposed to meet De Jon Watson, Dodger director of player development, to drive to the ballpark together.
But Robinson failed to show up at the appointed time and he was found dead in his hotel room, Dodgers spokesman Josh Rawitch said. The official cause of death was pending, he said.
"Bill was a wonderful family man and a great baseball player, coach, manager and friend to everyone he met," Dodger general manager Ned Colletti said. "Even though he never played for the Dodgers, it was an honor that he chose to be a part of the organization. Everyone he came into contact with was better for having known him."
Robinson was in his second season with the Dodgers after spending four years on the Florida Marlins' coaching staff, where he served as hitting coach for the 2003 world champions.
He was hitting coach for the New York Mets from 1984-89, including their 1986 World Series title.
"On behalf of the entire Mets organization, we send our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to Bill's wife, Mary and the Robinson family," Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon said in a statement. "As hitting coach, he played an integral role in the 1986 Mets world championship. More importantly, he was a devoted family man, a consummate professional and one of the classiest men in our sport."
Robinson played in the majors from 1966-83, with 1,127 hits, 166 home runs and 641 RBI as an outfielder for Atlanta, the New York Yankees, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. He batted .264 with 24 homers and 75 RBIs for the Pirates in '79.
Robinson also served as a minor league hitting coach for the Yankees and was a minor league coach and manager in Philadelphia's farm system. He managed in the Venezuelan League and was an analyst for ESPN's "Baseball Tonight" in 1990-91.
Robinson is survived by his wife Mary Alice, a son and a daughter.
Services were pending.

http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070730&content_id=2118964&vkey=news_nym&fext=.jsp&c_id=nym
NEW YORK -- The Mets acquired second baseman Luis Castillo from the Twins late Monday afternoon in exchange for two Minor Leaguers in their first deal of an otherwise quiet trading season. In exchange, the Mets sent Minor League catcher Drew Butera and Minor League outfielder Dustin Martin to Minnesota.
"We pride our team as being pitching and defense," said Mets general manager Omar Minaya. "Castillo is one of the best second basemen in baseball."
Castillo, 31, was batting .304 with nine stolen bases in 85 games for the Twins. Known for his defensive prowess, the switch-hitter enjoyed his best offensive year in 2002, hitting .305 with 48 steals. A year later, he played an integral role in helping the Marlins win their second World Series title.
Castillo won Gold Gloves with Florida from 2003-05. The Twins acquired him in a trade from the Marlins last winter.
He should join the Mets on Tuesday in Milwaukee.
Butera, 23, was hitting .188 in 30 games since a recent promotion to Double-A Binghamton. He's never hit higher than .258 at any level of the Minors.
Martin, 23, was batting .287 with five home runs in 93 games with the Gulf Coast League Mets.
The Mets have had a hole at second base since Jose Valentin fractured his right leg two weeks ago. Backup Ruben Gotay had earned the bulk of the playing time since Valentin's injury, but questions arose about his defensive abilities.
"We could have gone with Gotay," Minaya said. "But the opportunity to get Castillo going down the stretch and be strong up the middle -- not only offensively strong, but to be defensively strong -- I thought that was a way of improving our club."
Castillo will be a free agent at the end of the season, and Minaya said the Mets would have considered signing him after the season.
Instead, the Mets will assume the remainder of his contract for this season. Minaya said that manager Willie Randolph will likely bat Castillo second in the lineup, forming a potent one-two punch with Jose Reyes. The move also gives the Mets three switch-hitters at the top of the lineup, though one -- center fielder Carlos Beltran -- won't be around quite yet.
Beltran didn't make the trip with the team to Milwaukee, and Minaya said he will almost definitely be placed on the disabled list with a strained oblique muscle before Tuesday's game.

Seriously, what a fucking joke schedule that they've had since the All Star break! You can come back and talk all the shit you want if their record is better at the end of the month, sir, after they've played Cleveland, Detroit, Boston, and the LA Angels a few more times!
Anyways, that was the easiest game the Mets had this series and they shit the bed! I dunno what the hell it is with Atlanta, but this team forgets everything when they play them, and play some of the sloppiest unwatchable baseball possible! It can't be a rivalry when only one side wins!

This is a huge game tomorrow and many real Met fans like myself who do this thing called work will not be able to see the game. The worst part is it's not even a getaway day. The Mets are home this weekend. Last month when the Mets had a day night doubleheader in Philly on Friday, they had a night game scheduled on Thursday against St. Louis which got rained out. Now they are home for the weekend and they schedule one of the biggest games of the season at 12:00 so 20,000 campers who couldn't tell the difference between Tim Hudson and Barney get to see the game. I said Getaway day, not giveaway day. Meaning the Mets aren't going on the road for the weekend which is the reason why teams schedule day games on Thursdays a lot. No reason to play a day game when your not traveling the next day.

This team is in deep shit, folks!
- The fifth starter is Brian Lawrence
- John Maine, Oliver Perez, and Jose Reyes have been brutal since the All-Star break.
- There is nobody reliable enough in the pen between the starting pitcher and Wagner.
- Carlos Delgado hasn't been able to get his shit together all year
- Cliff Floyd has been more durable for the Cubs this year that Beltran has been for our Mets
- They have a better road record than home record
- Wright is the only consistent player.
- Randolph can't get the team prepared either for big series against the Braves or to beat up upon second tier teams like the Marlins and Nationals
I'm hitting the panic button now! No more of this "We're still in 1st" stuff. I mean seriously, the fucking YANKEES look like they have a better shot at the playoffs than us! How the FUCK is that possible?!
Fred Told Me
08-12-2007, 02:03 AM
I'd be concerned but I'm not going to panic until either the Braves or the Phillies catch us. The way I see it, we have yet to play our best ball and if we do catch fire, it's going to be at the right time. Better to play your best ball in September and October, then in June and July as we saw last year. Remember this team has played a grand total of 1 game with Alou and Beltran in the lineup since May and that was Friday night. And with Pedro coming back soon, I have confidence things will turn around. They just have to keep their heads above water like they have been doing all year. Take this game against the Marlins on Sunday and clean up on the shitty Pirates and Nationals next week and that lead could be right back to the 4-5 game range.
I went to the game today and although i was happy with the result everything went sour once i got back to my car.
I usually park my car under the bridge, but this time i couldn't find a spot, so i parked it on 137th, i figure there were enough cars around that my car would be safe....
BOY WAS I FUCKING WRONG
Some fucker stole most of the side view mirrors of the cars that were parked on that block. There were about 10 cars total and 6 of them had no mirrors. Man i was so fucking pissed, i been parking around there for the past 8 years and this shit happens now. Well i learned my lesson, never again will i park there.
I just hope the deushebag who stole it(and you know it was one of those guys that work on those auto shops) gets hit by a car and losses both arms and legs and lives the rest of his life on a fucking wheelchair.

Just fucking terrible, what will piss me off even more will be Willie's Herm Edwards type of post game press conference. "Well we just let this get away, gotta go out there tomorrow and give it our best." It seems like every week now I'm thinking that a certain loss was the worst one of the year but then they go an top it.
And get fucking Mota off this team, he is the biggest piece of garbage I have ever seen. First he gets caught with roids and Minaya decides to give him a 2 year contract, give Shoenwies a 3 year contract and let Bradford walk. FUCK!!
Good thing football season is starting to take my mind off this team. "Oh but they're still in first place", yeah are they? Then they are the 2nd worst first place team in baseball with the Brewers being the worst. And of course I want to see them turn it on, win the East and do well in the playoffs, its just I haven't seen a Mets team that could do that since the first couple weeks of the season.
UP FUCKING 7-3 TO THE FUCKING PIRATES AND THEY COME BACK, AFTER LOSING 4 OUT OF 6 TO THE FUCKING MARLINS AND BRAVES AT HOME. FUCK!!

This was a disgraceful loss, and if the Pirates weren't so bad the Mets probably would have blown the 5-0 lead last night too. But hey, they're still in 1st place by 3 and 3 1/2 games. Start fuckin' playing like a 1st place team.

I hear ya Fred! I really didn't expect Brian Lawrence to outdual Peavy and have 'em win tonight, but the Padres were taking a giant shit in the bottom of the 9th. Their normally stoic, rock solid bullpen was falling apart!
I fucking KNEW Delgado would end the game! Why the fuck is Alou, who's the 2nd hitter in the lineup tearing the cover off the ball, hitting a spot behind him? I'd seriously bat him 7th now, behind Milledge too!
Eh, it doesn't matter now. At least Philthy and the Braves lost tonight too.
Fred Told Me

Willie also made some questionable moves last night. First off I'm all in favor of Milledge winning the job over Green, but last night was the time to play Green. Milledge was completely overmatched by Peavy and Green has a history of hitting Peavy well and played in the same division as him for many years. Also how could he not have somebody ready in the bullpen before Mota's meltdown. Also why did he waste Shawn Green as a pinch hitter leading off the 5th. He could have used him later in the game in a double switch to get Milledge out of there.
I will give him credit though for pinch hitting Marlon Anderson for DiFelice in the 9th and not worrying about using the backup catcher if they had tied it 7-7. Too many managers worry too much about that shit that never happens.

David Wells agrees to deal with Dodgers, plans to pitch Sunday night at Mets

NEW YORK (AP) -- David Wells is coming back to a pennant race with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Wells and the Dodgers agreed to a contract, and the big lefty plans to make his first start for Los Angeles on Sunday night against the Mets in New York.
The 44-year-old Wells was designated for assignment by his hometown San Diego Padres on Aug. 9 and placed on release waivers four days later. He cleared waivers last Thursday and became a free agent.
The Dodgers will be his ninth team in a 21-year major league career.
"David's excited to have an opportunity to continue his career with a team that has such a storied history," Wells' agent, Gregg Clifton, said Thursday. "He's excited to help any way he can to get the Dodgers back to the playoffs."
Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said through team spokesman Josh Rawitch that the club had nothing to announce Thursday night.
Wells, nicknamed Boomer, struggled in his last four starts with San Diego, going 0-3 with a 14.33 ERA. Overall, he was 5-8 with a 5.54 ERA this season.
Padres general manager Kevin Towers said the club gave Wells the option of retiring or being designated for assignment.
The outspoken Wells plans to join the Dodgers on Friday in New York, where he was once a fan favorite with the Yankees, and start Sunday night against the NL East-leading Mets in a nationally televised game, Clifton said.
"This is the right situation, a team on the West Coast that's a playoff contender. He's looking forward to it," Clifton said. "David always likes to be a member of a veteran team that has a chance to make the playoffs."
Beset by injuries to its pitching staff, Los Angeles was two games out of the NL wild-card lead after a 5-2 victory at Philadelphia on Thursday. The Dodgers, swept by the Mets in the first round of the postseason last year, begin a three-game series against New York on Friday night.
Wells would replace right-hander Brett Tomko in Los Angeles' rotation. The Dodgers have had to go with Tomko and Mark Hendrickson, among others, as starters because of injuries to Jason Schmidt, Randy Wolf and Hong-Chih Kuo. Tomko is 2-11 with a 5.80 ERA and Hendrickson is 4-7 with a 5.09 ERA.
Wells will get a prorated salary with the Dodgers plus performances bonuses that allow him to make $800,000 if he starts seven games.
Wells' contract with the Padres called for him to make $176,470 per start from Nos. 11-27. He made 22 starts with San Diego.
After facing the Mets, Wells could start against the Padres the following weekend in San Diego, which is also in the hunt for an NL playoff spot.
AP Sports Writers Ronald Blum and Bill Konigsberg in New York, Bernie Wilson in San Diego and John Nadel in Los Angeles contributed to this report.

But they look absolutely disgraceful right now. What the fuck was Marlon Anderson doing? Taking out the 2nd baseman is good but you cant shoulder block the fuckin' guy. And the ball was hit so slow even that scumbag Green would have beaten it out.
And who couldn't see a double play ball coming from Mr. Clutch, Shawn Green. Gotay should have been up in that spot.
Reyes obviously is having a terrible series to say the least and it shows you how valuable he is to the team, but Luis Castillo is flying under the radar. He needs to pick up Reyes and do the job setting the table and he has been just as bad as Reyes.
If David Wright takes another 3rd strike I'm gonna fuckin scream. 6 times he's been called out on strikes in the last 4 games. Swing the fuckin' bat.

It just keeps getting worse. I would use the terms disgraceful and disgusted but I think that would be an understatement.
I agree with putting Wagner in there to try for the 6 out save because they had Utley and Howard hitting in the 8th. However Heilman or Sosa needed to be in the bullpen ready for the 9th if Wagner got into trouble and of course he did. Once Wagner got himself into trouble you knew their was no way he was getting out of it.
Nice of them to score 10 runs today when all they needed was 3 the past two nights. Just absolutely disgraceful.
I would give Marlon Anderson a first baseman's glove and let him play. Enough of fuckin' Delgado. he could have put the hammer down in the 8th with the bases loaded and he hits a weak ground out for a run. Fuck him.
If and that's a big IF the Mets make the playoffs. Shawn Green Off the Roster. Fuck Him.
It's unbelievable that they are 2 games up yet it feels like they are 6 down. Now let's see how they respond in Atlanta. Good luck. Fuck them

It does look like our guys have gotten their heads outta their ass. That Philly sweep was a wake up call and a potential blessing in disguise. It's amazing how much things change in a half a week! But there's still 6 games to go against the Phils and Braves!
This was a nice sweep, and hopefully Florida helps us out today! They seem to be the front runner for playoff spoiler this September. They're going to be a pain in the ass the last two weeks of the season for the Mets as well. Bank on that!

Well it would be 5 but thats still good enough. The Mets sure did a lot to make up for the Philly disaster with this sweep of the Braves. With the schedule for September being very favorable for the Mets, there is no reason why they should not cruise to the division title.
NY Daily News (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/2007/09/02/2007-09-02_mets_claim_phillies_cheated_by_stealing_.html)
ATLANTA - The Phillies had a lot of heart during last week's four-game sweep of the Mets. They allegedly had some illegal help, too.
MLB discipline czar Bob Watson was dispatched to Thursday's series finale in Philadelphia to investigate after the Mets accused the Phillies of stealing signs through a center-field camera, a source told the Daily News. Suspicions arose midway through the series when the Mets changed their signs and a Phillies player reacted by mentioning the change in complexity during a casual conversation.
"What's up with the sophisticated signs?" the Phillie allegedly asked a Met.
Willie Randolph confirmed the Mets alerted MLB, but didn't elaborate.
"We were suspicious about a few things," the manager said. "We checked it out."
Watson found no evidence of foul play, and determined the camera - used by the Phillies organization - didn't provide a live feed to the dugout, according to an MLB source.
However, that's not how the purported scheme exactly works, according to a Met.
Allegedly, the camera in center field provides footage to a video room. A coach stationed in the corner of the Phillies' dugout has a buzzer in his pocket. Based on the signal he receives from the video room, he then yells a code to the batter - such as his first name - to relay what pitch is coming. One Met said he's heard from three different former Phillies in the past year alleging foul play at Citizens Bank Park.
An official familiar with the complaint said similar allegations are made at various stadiums during the course of a season.
The Phillies denied wrongdoing.
"They checked us out," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel told the Wilmington (Del.) News Journal. "Ask them for the report. ... I think it's just a matter of guys talking and running their mouth. You can check us all you want to. Maybe we should check them. They definitely have guys that try to steal signs. Sandy Alomar is always walking around trying to get signs. At least they let you think that. ...When stuff comes up like that, it's no big deal. They can sit up there during the game with the camera crew for all I care."

The activity on your board has been a bit dry over the weekend...
Here's some talking points to discuss amongst yourselves:
1) We've blown two 5-0 leads in the span of 4 days. Bad luck, or bad starting pitching?
2) How much did this Eaton bum take us to the cleaners for?
3) Can Jose Mesa, Antonio Alfonseca, and Geoff Geary get it done in the World Series we're pre-destined to win?
4) That strike call in Jimmy Rollins' last AB in today's game wasn't FAAAAIIIIIR...
5) Why didn't fat fuck Charlie Manuel make a stink about the strike zone in the 9th? Was he starting on the postgame spread back in the dugout? Will he eat himself to death before the season's out?!

Pedro pitched way beyond my expectations. The only reason he gave up two runs was a swinging bunt single to lead off the game, and Alou misjudging a fly ball.
Hopefully he does not get hurt down the stretch and we have him for the playoffs. Also keep your fingers crossed with El Duke. He got a cortisone shot and we need him and Pedro on our playoff roster. If we had them last year, we win.

Maybe if they would have been swinging a good bat we would have won with them. El Duque and Pedro couldn't have pitched any better than Maine and Perez did in Games 6 and 7 last year. The Mets lost the series because of the bullpen and their hitting. Their starting pitching was good in 6 of the 7 games except for Trachsel in Game 3. They let Jeff Suppan, a career mediocre pitcher look like Don Drysdale and their went the season. And Suppan rode his 1 week of greatness into a big time contract with Milwaukee where he is right back into his usual role of mediocrity.
I can't wait for Sunday and see Pedro pitch live. :D

Hitting! I'm hoping that Degado's bat finally wakes up. Delgado, Beltran and Wright in a groove combined with with the other guys getting on base make for a killer line up.

Delgado out 7-10 days (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3006509)
CINCINNATI -- Carlos Delgado will be sidelined for a week to 10 days with a strained muscle in his right hip, a significant blow to the New York Mets as they try to protect first place in the NL East.

The slugging first baseman hurt himself on an awkward swing during an 11-7 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. Mets manager Willie Randolph and a trainer came out to check on Delgado, who stayed in the game and struck out.
He was sent back to New York for an MRI exam Wednesday that detected a strained right hip flexor.
"Anytime it's one of your big guys, you get concerned," Randolph said.
The test results were announced as the Mets headed for the airport following a 7-0 loss to the Reds on Wednesday. They could play Shawn Green, Marlon Anderson and Jeff Conine, who was obtained from the Reds in a trade last month, at first base while Delgado heals.
"It's too early to discuss any other options," said Tony Bernazard, the Mets vice president for player development.
The Mets will be without Delgado as they begin a potentially pivotal stretch. After a weekend series against Houston, they host Atlanta and Philadelphia next week, when they'll have a chance to open up some breathing room against their top two pursuers.
New York leads the NL East by five games over the Phillies. The Mets were swept four games in Philadelphia last week, cutting their lead to two. Then they went on a five-game winning streak that stretched it back to five. The Phillies also lost on Wednesday, keeping the margin at five.
Late in a disappointing season, Delgado was starting to go on a tear at the right time. He hit his 22nd homer Monday and has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, with four homers during that span.
Green has started three games at first base this season. He is batting .276 with eight homers and 42 RBIs in 110 games overall, batting near the bottom of the order.
"I feel I've kind of stepped into a different type of production," Green said following Tuesday's win. "I'm more of a swing guy. It's a different role. I've accepted the fact that I'm not one of the guys in the middle of the lineup carrying the team anymore."
The Mets got Conine from the Reds for two minor leaguers on Aug. 20, a day after infielder Damion Easley went on the 15-day disabled list with a severely sprained left ankle. Conine played first base on Wednesday and went 0-for-4, leaving him batting .260 overall with six homers and 34 RBIs.

Typical bullshit from the citizenry of Philly! Most of us go over to your board and give you guys credit, or keep to ourselves in this forum, but you come over and put douchey stuff like this on here.
You have every right to brag now, you guys stepped it up and got the hits when it counted, but there is a LOT of baseball left! You guys are still in SECOND PLACE at the moment. There is still a month left for your team to go cold and choke away its momentum, like the pathetic history of your franchise shows time and time again.
It's the same thing with the Eagles. I've never heard a sports city win so little yet talk SO much! Enjoy it now, but I can't wait for the next patented Philly "choke it all away" collapse!

I'm miffed as to why this got dug back up, but anyways... As I explained to HybridDriver, say whatever you want on your board. I don't care what gets said about the Mets over there because it's a PHILLIES board. I never go over to other team's boards to boast or ridicule... only to give credit if/where it's due, or if another team helps out the Mets by winning against a rival.
You post a broom pic on a team's thread that your team swept, and you didn't expect a negative response back?! Man, these are New York fans, not San Diegans!
I realize we all can't like the same teams (that'd be boring) but I dunno what to tell you, buddy, if you can't take it, then keep on your board. I don't start it with other fans, but if you bring that junk over here, then that's what you'll get in response.

After 12 Innings, Nats Left Feeling Vacant
Grueling Day In Desolate Park Ends With Loss: Marlins 5, Nationals 4
By Amy Shipley
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, September 13, 2007; Page E05
MIAMI, Sept. 12 -- After 4 hours 9 minutes of laboring in the tropical midday heat in a cavernous and virtually empty stadium Wednesday afternoon, the Washington Nationals got stuck with this: a 5-4 loss to the Florida Marlins in 12 innings that was sealed when a .226 reserve player chopped a single through the infield to drive home the winning run.
Florida left fielder Todd Linden, waived earlier this year by the San Francisco Giants, got his bat on a sinker from reliever Saul Rivera and punched it just to the right of second base as shortstop D'Angelo Jimenez and second baseman Ronnie Belliard tried, but failed, to get gloves on the ball.
Reggie Abercrombie, elected to pinch-run for Mike Jacobs after his leadoff double, scored from third to end a marathon that had been deadlocked since the sixth inning. The several dozen fans who speckled the plastic orange seating provided an odd backdrop, offering the same chorus of celebratory shouts and claps that would accompany a Little League game.
"To throw a good pitch like [Rivera] did, a sinker down and away, and for a guy to roll over it and find a hole after 4 1/2 hours," catcher Brian Schneider said, "is very disappointing."
The loss, Washington's second straight to the Marlins, left the visitor's clubhouse at Dolphin Stadium nearly as silent as the stadium had been much of the afternoon. There were perhaps 400 people in attendance. Players seemed both exasperated and exhausted by the fruitless performance that barely anyone was there to see.
"It looked, actually, like an extended spring game," Nationals Manager Manny Acta said about the crowd at the stadium, which seats 75,000 fans for football games. "It was so sad, but we still got to play the game. [Linden] just hit the ball perfectly -- the only place he could hit it in the infield and beat it out."
Though the Nationals secured the season series against the Marlins (10-8) with their one victory in three games here this week, they left still fighting to stay out of the basement of the National League East. They are just two games ahead of Florida in that race.
"They know, and we know, we're playing for something," Acta said. "We don't want to finish last and they don't want to finish last. It's no secret."
What began ignominiously with poor outings by both starting pitchers -- Washington's Joel Hanrahan and Florida's Byung Hyun Kim were charged with all but two of the game's runs -- evolved into a classic pitching duel between bullpens that, judging by the number of batting helmets and bats spiked to the turf, left hitters from both sides demoralized as the innings stretched on.
By game's end, 16 pitchers combined to strike out 33 batters. Twelve half-innings concluded with strikeouts.
Infuriated by his inning-ending strikeout in the second with the bases loaded, the Marlins' Jeremy Hermida tossed his bat so hard it busted into several pieces. Power hitter Miguel Cabrera flipped his bat into the air dramatically after striking out with one on in the eighth. Washington's Ryan Zimmerman put on a similar display after whiffing with two on in the sixth, and Ryan Langerhans tossed his equipment after fanning to end the 10th.
With a man in scoring position in the bottom of that inning, Dan Uggla struck out swinging, too.
"It was a long day," said Ryan Church, who hit a fifth-inning home run before being replaced in center field by Nook Logan. And "it was an odd day. . . . It was so frigging hot. It was miserable out there."
Temperatures reached the low 90s with high humidity. Though five Washington relievers combined to allow no runs and only two base runners from the seventh inning through the 11th, the Nationals never recovered from Hanrahan's early collapse. After escaping two bases-loaded jams early, he faltered. In the third inning, he allowed a leadoff single to Cabrera, then surrendered two-run home run with two outs to catcher Miguel Olivo.
In just 3 1/3 innings, Hanrahan gave up three runs, walked six and allowed six hits. Even worse, he threw 104 pitches, nearly a full game's worth.
"It was a very disappointing effort," he said. "I'm still working on things."
Kim, meantime, might have put forth one of the least effective 10-strikeout performances in baseball history. When he wasn't dominating the Nationals, he was putting them on base. He gave up seven hits and walked four in 5 2/3 innings, including back-to-back home runs in the fifth to Church and Wily Mo Pe?a.
That gave Washington a 4-3 lead that lasted until the bottom of the sixth, when Hermida homered off Jonathan Albaladejo to produce the tie that would stretch into extra innings.
"The end was disappointing," Schneider said. "To have that happen, it's hard."
At least the Mets' opponents for the final two weeks have no fans to support any potential spoiler acts ;)

They can't keep letting these mediocre Phillies pitchers beat them. In these recent games with the Phillies, the Phillies are doing the little things to win and the Mets are not. Castillo and Beltran both killed us in big spots with men on base. Reyes continues to hit the ball in the air way too much. Randolph should do a Lou Brown from Major League and make him do 20 pushups everytime he hits the ball in the air.
We can't let the Phillies get back into this. Bury them and bury them now.

Give the Phillies credit for taking care of business against us, however they are not beating us anywhere near our best. For some reason when the Mets play the Phillies they decide to play with their heads up their asses.
Castillo runs into a double play in the 1st. Reyes who is really getting on my nerves, steals 3rd with 2 outs and David Wright up. One of the worst plays I've ever seen him make. Of course, Reyes with the bases loaded pops up to first on the first pitch. Keep hitting the ball in the air Jose. Keep it up.
That called 3rd strike on Anderson in the 9th was such bullshit. Now I'm not going to complain because the Mets got the next two guys on and had their best two hitters up and they both did shit. But that call was garbage and I'm sick of Willie Randolph NEVER getting in an umpire's face. That was a dogshit call in a HUGE spot. You HAVE to make a scene and get in the umps face and get thrown out. Show some Fuckin' emotion and fire up this team that plays dead every time the Phillies are the opposition.
I'm fuckin' fed up with this shit. I'm not worried about winning the division because even if the Phillies pull off the sweep. They will be 3 1/2 up and I have confidence the Mets will breeze through Washington and Florida and the Phillies will choke away the last week and not make the playoffs. But I'm sick of losing to this team and their mediocre at best pitching staff.

Fred, you perfectly summarized everything I wanted to post. I just got home and this is exactly what I was thinking on the subway.
I would including Beltran's fielding from where we were sitting it seemed there were three flies he should have caught.
On a lighter note, I've never seen so many fights in Shea. There were at least three where we were sitting (Upper Level / Section 15) and we could see a good one in the Mezzanine towards left. Saw a lot of red jerseys get thrown out. That and several good chants of "SECOND PLACE!"

I am not a Mets fan, happen to date a Phillies fan, so I see most of the Philly games ... this weekend series was just a disaster from the Mets perspective. I don't know what it is, but they CANNOT beat Philly. It might be a mental thing, or I have no clue.
I work with this one Mets fan ... who said all year that he wasn't afraid of Philly and that they sucked. So I came in today (again, I am a Red Sox fan so I could care less) and I said "Still not afraid of Philly?" And he actually said. and this is part of the reason that NY fans annoy me, "It doesn't matter, the Phillies needed it more ... we don't care." I just said "What are you talking about ... ?" and he said "Well, we lost cause we didn't really need it ... I mean think about it, who needed the games more them or us?"
He was actually saying that it wasn't a big deal ... I just looked at him and said "I thought you were smarter than that ... right now you sounds like a stupid Yankee fan.... just shutup"
My problem with the exchange was just have an intelligent conversation and admit your team got beat ... they played like shit, made 6 errors, etc. BUT no, he turned into a Yankee fan before my eyes and started making excuses, I am not a Phillies fan, but as a sports fan and Yankee hater, this irritated me this morning.

Hey, we're realistic here on Wackbag! Phillies have won 8 straight and 11 of the last 14 against our team. If the Mets meet them in the playoffs, they won't sweep the Mets but they'll win.
These last two series that the Phils swept, John Maine hasn't pitched. He's never lost to the Phillies in his short career. He's 4-0 with a 2.13 ERA in 6 starts against them. He's the only Met pitcher to totally baffle them this year.
He pitched in one game against them in June where the Mets lost, but Willie went all conservative and pulled him after 6 innings and 100 pitches.
But the Phils aren't fucking around, and it's a shame that the Mets and their fans have to count on hapless St Louis, Washington, and a fading Atlanta to take care of them because our team couldn't take care of business!
The Phillies will probably do what they always do though. Just enough to finish over .500 and miss the playoffs.
If they were to make the playoffs though there's a really good chance they're in the world series 'cause the Mets are the team to beat in the NL.

The only other team I don't want the Mets playing is in the the first round: San Diego. Getting Chris Young and Jake Peavy in a 5 game series won't be pleasant! They can take them in a 7 game series. The Central is garbage, and I think the Mets can handle Arizona and LA.
Arizona would be one of the worst offensive teams to ever make the playoffs.
It's too bad for the Phillies that Gordon keeps getting hurt. I'd turn him into a two inning then three-four inning guy to end the year then start him in the playoffs. Can't do that when you have nobody able to close games though.

Gordon stunk for you guys and the Phils, but he always seems to rise up to the occasion against the Mets. Can never understand it.
I'm not sure what he did yesterday, but he looked in a large amount of pain when he went back to the dugout.

Tweaked his back.
I blame every injury he's had since 2004 and after on Joe Torre. Him and Quantrill. Gordon pitched 79 innings in 98, got hurt in 99. Had a decent year in 2003 in 66 appearances. 2004.... 80 appearances 89.2ip 70 appearances in 05, 80.2ip.
Gordon was amazing for the Yankees though. Worked constantly and put up 2.14 and 2.57eras. Those two years made him a type A free agent. Him signing with Philly gave the Yankees two first round picks which became Ian Kennedy and Joba Chamberlain.

The last two days, I have NEVER been so embarrassed to call myself a Met fan!! I'm not even exaggerating. At least when Torborg, Dallas Green, and Art Howe were managing, you could laugh off how badly they played.
How long did they think that 4-0 lead would last with Lawrence pitching?? Why did they start him again today?!? Because the division's already clinched, right?!?!?!
They use 8 pitchers yesterday, 7 out of the pen, and they go with a guy who would give you 3, 4 innings MAX tonight.....
And our "MVP"... letting the ball go right under his glove.....
UGH!! I'm punching out! Time to start drinking heavily!!

You guys need to stop worrying. The Mets (the real true fucking New York team BTW) will be in the NLCS in no time. Boston has already thrown in the towel tonight in Toronto. You guys will be fine. Pedro will be healthier than ever and will go nuts in the playoffs. I'm not saying that you'll win it all, but it's looking good. Without further or do; here are my postseason predictions for next the coming weeks:
NLCS
New York
Chicago
Philadelphia
San Diego
ALCS
New York
Cleveland
Los Angeles
Detriot
This is subject to change but I'm for certain that this will be the Postseason matchups. Watch

For the life of me, what does that have anything to do with the Mets????
This is literally nauseating to watch right now. They better just survive these two weeks and get to October. Obviously it's better to playing like this now than to be playing like this in 2 weeks, but it's infuriating to say the least.
This last 4 games have been a mess. It all starts with Willie, he's in game managing has been awful and the worst part is that he doesn't even show any emotions. i hope he is throwing chairs or something in clubhouse right now, but his gut is probably telling him to stay cool

I was just digressing.
Everyone in Flushing Queens relax. Your team will turn it on again. Beltran, Wright will come through in the clutch. No worries. How far they go in the playoffs is unknown. But for now, I would not worry. Trust me on this. The Mets will make the playoffs. The Mets will be in the NLCS.

Well this coming from somebody who says the Red Sox won't make the playoffs even though they had a 7 game "wildcard" lead going into tonight with 2 weeks to play. Doesn't put much stock into what you say. However I agree the Mets will be fine IF they survive these two weeks.
And yet if the Phillies blow an 11-0 lead tonight, (they lead 13-11 in the 9th) it will almost all be worthwhile.

There's no defending anything that this team has done the past week. We have to sit here like putzes and take it from Phillie and Yankee fans. :icon_cry: They're winning when it counts. :yuck2:
I do have an odd feeling that this team will be alright, for some strange reason! I'm hoping that's not one of Randolph's "gut feelings". But things change fast in this game. One week ago, the Mets were cruising. There's still a good week and a half left against subpar teams. They can do it!
Say the Mets don't make the playoffs, or lose in the first round.
Willie, gone or not?
Omar, gone or not?

oh and for the record jackass, the ALCS and the NLCS are the 2 series played before the World Series, not the first rou
