I just encountered a problem a couple days ago with Netscape that got worse enough that I had to switch back to firefox. FYI- Netscape runs off the Mozilla structure, but has some convenience features I prefer for quicker navigation than Firefox.

In any event, every few minutes, the CPU gets pegged at 100%, everything slows down and locks, except for the task manager. Netscape's listing on the processes list approaches 100. Shut it down, everything is great.

I uninstalled and reinstalled it, including removal of the profile folder, but it still does it upon reinstallation.

try running a virus and spyware sweep, I had a laptop come into work yesterday with a somewhat similar problem and she was infested with some nasty shit that used the browser as a short of zombie sending shit from another pc

cleaned out several times and came up with nothing out of the ordinary. Ran Netscape's shitspyware scanner, adaware, and spybot, along with running a virus scan just to check.

Brother, we only bring problems upon ourselves when using netscape.

It sounds like there's a memory leak going on within the program. Faulty coding of the application, or malware interference exploiting it's vulnerabilities.

give a shot with firefox, almost positive all of your settings/bookmarks/etc can be retained. And if you don't like the visuals of it, give a check for different skins/icons.

I wouldn't steer you wrong.

Thanks a bunch. I always keep firefox on hand, just in case. It's pretty lateral to Netscape and it's no problem setting it up nearly like NS. Been using it all day and it's fine. Something in Netscape is fucked and I'm pulling it from my gf's computer as well. Problem solved.

I thought this was a thread from 1998 there for a second. I didn't even know Netscape was still around.
