How long in PBM?

When did the news hit? How long have we been in pbm. I checked in to lurk at lunch but all was fine.

about 5 hours now.....give or take. servers crashed due to overloaded merger(post-whore) thread.

Actually it's both. It's not just the actual number of people that does it.
It's the server load that triggers PBM. That has to do with all of the people
posting and refreshing to see new posts too.

This is gonna be a long PBM, just get used to it. Personally the merger thread seems useless considering they haven't passed even 1 of the 3 federal hurdles they need to get over.

It isn't the webhost. It is the load on the server.

All the guests are locked out right now. Sigs and avatars are turned off.
It's just all of the members here now that are posting and refreshing to
see the new posts that has the server load so high.

And for everyone's information: I started the day with Sigs & Avatars off - didn't help. I locked out guests - didn't help. I spent 4 hours trying to keep the server up stopping other processes on it - didn't help. Even with full PBM mode on - we were still putting a tremendous load onto the server.

My goal is to never have to turn PBM on again - however, in the short-run, we are going to have to deal with it for a while. It's going to stay off overnight, but will most likely return in the AM.

Don't worry, I am looking at new, more-gooder servers... stay tuned ;) :icon_mrgr

No - if you read my previous post - PBM is triggered when I turn it on. In this case, it has nothing to do with any other message board or web-site - it is purely us - we have over 36,000 members, with about 27,000 of them active in the last year. With the merger talk, everybody is running here to see "what's going on"

This morning i was in my office and hadn't seen the news or been listening to the show due to some meetings i was having. After the meeting my boss comes up to me (57yo backward hillbilly with little to no appreciation for the antics of "shock jocks") and asks if i know where to find pictures of britney spears' tunnel of doom, i remember that the bag was flooded into PBM when those first started showing up so i thought i'd come here and search for the link. When i got here and saw the state of panic that the place was in, and by panic i mean the white nothingness of PBM i got really giddy and maybe even a couple chillbumps rose up on my arms. Once i found out that the excitement was over something that will not happen for a year if at all i was dissappointed. I'm bakc online full time and and anxiously waiting an attack order, my pathetic little heart cant handle such false alarms as a merger anymore. I wish someone would rise really high on the fucko list so i can have excitement. And even more i wish that i could fall asleep and stop posting novels that really say nothing relevant.
