Great. The government is coming at us again with yet another version of the fucking $1 coin. I hate those fucking things. Whenever I get one, I'm immediately looking to unload it on the next cashier that I run across.:icon_mad:

The only good use for them is in the Muni Meters for parking in NYC.
Instead of quarters.

It looks like I am in the monority here. I love having higher denominations in a coin form.

There are 1 and 2 euro coins.
Canadians have 2 dollar coins.
Iceland has the 100 kronur which is about $1.50
Japan has a 500 yen coin (about $3.50 to $4.00)

I have used all of these currencies and find it is much easier for stuffing vending machines with coins. My only problem with the US dollar coins is that they are WAY too big. They neeed to make them smaller and possibly go with one of those multi metal ones

illl jump on the buster band wagon. 1$ coins are accualy a money saver, a paper 1$ bill only last about 6months in circulation, a coin lasts for years, the biggest problem is people not using them or confuseing them with quarters

This may all be true, but my problem is carrying the friggin things around. They weigh your pockets down and jingle and are just annoying. They jingle dammit they jingle!

Yeah, I am not a big fan of their size either.

I love Wikipedia:

1 euro (about $1.20)
23.25m (diameter)
2.33mm (thick)
7.50 grams

2 euro (abour $2.40)
25.75mm
2.2mm
8.56grams

500yen
26.5mm
2mm
7.2 grams (heaver version)

for comparison.
quarter
24.26mm
1.75mm
5.6g

1 dollar coin (sac)
26.5
2mm
8.1 g

I guess I was a bit wrong on the size of the eruos, but they are still worth more money and are still smaller even if they are not as small as i thought.

It's cheaper to make them into coins for the Mint, the US Mint would desperately love the change to the dollar being only a coin.

It isn't a bad idea.

Maybe the fact that it now costs more than a dollar to print and distribute a dollar bill has something to do with it.

I don't mind the dollar coins. They're easier to work with if you're selling shit on a windy day, coins don't blow away.

I remember one day my college roommate mistook some of my dollar coins (got them all the time from the SEPTA trains) for quarters and bought himself a $4 whopper junior. Bastard never even paid me back.

This is my problem with the $1 coin. It's a good idea in theory, but they're just too awkward and cumbersome to carry around in any significant number.

To me a dollar coin should be substantial and weighty. The most recent two incarnations have been glorified quarters. I carry an 1883 morgan for good luck, now there's a dollar coin.

I don't mind the dollar coins. I rarely carry cash as I use my debit card
for alot of my purchases. Even when I have cash, I usually don't have
alot of singles. The biggest problem has been the size and people confusing
the newer coins with quarters.

I was in California last year and used a bill changer in Disneyland that gave
dollar coins out. I used a couple for a locker and handed the last one to a
vendor for a purchase and she tried to tell me I still owed her money when
in reality she owed me change back. The size is very confusing at a quick glance.

as long as theres no size confusion, I'm fine with it. One of these days they'll get it right.

Susans were close.. I used to take the train alot & got used to it.

besides, cash is slowly becoming obsolete.

Our tax dollars being spent accordingly yet again.

Did you know the federal government spends hundreds of millions of dollars to print $1 bills each year? A coin can save a lot of tax money.

But, what about the strippers???

I usually go to car meets in Canada, and some people love their Canadian strippers. But they really can't tip with Loony's or Twony's, so they end up tipping with $5. Makes it a LOT more expensive, even if $5 canadian really is only about $1 US :icon_wink

You would think that after more that 20 years, these dumb fucks would get it right. Every $1.00 coin failed for one reason and only one reason.

1. People hate to change.

In order to make the $1 coin a part of life, you need to take away the dollar bill, it will not work otherwise.

I thinkthe Susan B Anthony came out in the 70's and it is 2007 and no one gets it.
