it still cant do full background downloads because:

On the PS3, when you enter a game, your downloads will be paused and queued up, to be restarted later when you exit back to the XMB. The reason for this is that the PS3 needs extra system resources (primarily memory) to do background downloading, and as such could affect game play.

Sony should have pulled an xbox and released the feature even though it may cause problems with some games and just let the consumers deal with it.

The stated reason why the PS3 will not do background downloading while playing games comes not from the "power" of the Cell as you stated but because of the memory architecture. That being it's 2 separate caches shared between each other. Doing background downloading during some games may cause a problem. Sony is not allowing it right now because of cautious programming. Not because the system absolutely wouldn't be able to handle it.

I took your flippant slam of the PS3 and responded back with a back-handed compliment of the 360.

There is no denying that it looks better, but fun is fun. Gears of War is the most fun I ever had playing online. Soldiers of Fortune for PC was a shitty looking pc game but that was some of the best fun I ever had playing on a computer. Graphics to me don't make a great game.

A few of my 360 games allow back ground downloading, but the majority don't.

Anything with MP capability stops the downloads as soon as I load it, regardless if I am playing online or not.

Both GOW and R6 suspend the downloads.... those are the only 2 I ever play now.......

But I don't think it's a big deal either way. Unless someone is trying to download content with dialup......

Yeah, a game like Half Life 2 wouldn't be nearly as good if it weren't for the graphics. Ravenholm was one of the most intense game levels ever. I still play Command & Conquer 95' though. Graphics look like speckled shit but that game will always be great no matter what.

There is no superiority on a level playing field. I understand the point that a mouse and keyboard is much easier to control your player but on a level playing field, console vs. console has no advantage or disadvantage. I think mouse vs. controller is going to be a very unfair advantage especially in rotating your character.

True. I was tunneling through the series of tubes when I came across a game from '96. Escape Velocity, for the Mac (Don't worry, they make a Windows version). Still as fun as it was back then, even if the graphics are......not so good.

I'm guessing thats cause you play with people you know, atleast through the message board, maybe not though don't know. i play at pestgaming and stick to playing with people from the board, and when i play alone it just isn't as fun.

Ant, I'd normally agree with that and I like the big time graphics myself. But look at a few of the best selling console games, the GTA series. Those games aren't exactly graphical masterpieces, the draw in can be a bit rough at times, but goddamn if those games aren't insanely fun. I can only imagine what they're going to do with it once it hits the 360 this year.

It's points not kills. You may put 5 slugs in a guy and your friend gets credit for a kill but you get "Down" Points. It's still better then R6 in my opinion. It's quick and less tactical.

I'm not a fan of R6, or any of the technical shooters. Just not my gig. Gears could be good if people played like the single player, but the way people play it, it's essentially Halo with tiny maps and one extra weapon slot...and gawd aweful grenade mechanics.

Loved the single player, though.
