I'll never understand the aversion to Indian food. India's where all the good spices come from. Cooks from that part of the world have been working with them for millenia. They have a much better handle on their subtlety and how to properly blend them than western cooks do. That's why Indian food can be highly spiced but still really enjoyable. I have Indian food at least once a week.

Your best bet to trying Indian food is finding a good buffet. It's usually labelled as to what everything is. That, and most of the buffet food isn't usually as hot as individual dishes.
