I'm interested in getting a used truck and was just wondering what the gas mileage was for an '02 2500 series Chevy/GMC pickup versus a 1500. 6.0L V8of course. Any other pros vs. cons?

Don't own one but work on a bunch of them. Fuel mileage isn't great
with either one. The 2500 series does come in several weights and the
heavier it is, the worse it gets.
If fuel mileage is your biggest consideration, stick with the 1500 series.

Why are you concerned about mpg's? It's a truck fer christ's sake
what are you gonna use it for?

The 6.0L in a 1500 is reported to be about 12 in the city and 16 on the road.
Those figures are usually high.

My 1500 with the 5.3 liter gets about 12-13 mpg city 17-19 mpg highway with an overall average of about 15.5 mpg.

Not that great overall but pretty good for a full-size pick-up.

I have a 1500 4x4 with a 5.3 and I get appx. 17-18 mpg highway. Mine seems to be the exception to the rule as I know several people who only get around 15-16. 6.0's are hogs, expect to get around 10-13 depending on what you use it for. Avoid a truck with a 4.10 rear-end unless you're going to tow alot.

Yeah you're right, I ain't goin cross country with it but I like that style of the 2002 model and I'm upgrading from a V6 and wanna know if I need a 2nd income for the fuel.

unless you need the 2500 to haul or for a duramax, don't get it. It rides rough and drinks gas like beer. If all you want is a truck for the box and 4x4, get the 1500.

why in the hell would you even consider getting a 2500 with a gas engine.

for a truck that big and heavy the ONLY way to go is diesel.

My buddy owns a 1998 2500 gas "454" I think. STUPID. I drive my f150 harder and haul shit more often... I get 18-22 mpg with my 4.6 triton.

He has a dual tanks and on a road trip last year I filled 1 tank... he filled 2. Same miles.

I had a diesel work truck 2005 GMC half ton utility... that thing was a pig too. and its a pain in the ass looking for Diesel.

a 454 sure they can suck serios gas, but vs a 302 or the six gas engine... not a shitload of difference.

I have 2002 Chevy Express van for my work vehicle. I get about 15.5 mpg average, and it's the higher GVW (8600.) I've had very few problems over the 340,000 miles I've driven it. Fuel pumps seem to be a problem for these vans, and they're about $1000 to replace. It's the 5.7 liter, not the newer truck engine. GM doesn't make a half ton diesel anymore, hasn't since the nineties. I had a '95 one ton four wheel drive pickup with the 6.5 liter turbo diesel. It got about 12.5 mpg, which isn't too bad for a large truck, especially four wheel drive. We have a dozen or so GM vans, the 4.3 V6 gets a little better mileage than the smaller V8s, but not too much (about 18 mpg vs. 17.) The 3/4 tons have much better brakes and usually come with heavier duty tires that last longer for us. I'm still on the original front rotors and back drums, just replacing the pads three times and the shoes twice.

For work, I drive an '05 Chevy Express 2500 w/ the small 4.8 V-8 and it gets about 16MPG average.
