its been brought up on the show a few times, how long is too long sitting on the tarmac. now granted im a smoker but, i can go quite a while with out freeking out 8 hours tops. thats how long it took us to get to vegas, buy the time i got off the plane i couldnt get into the smokeing lounge fast enough, not to mention that im 6"4 and have back issues. i would have to become a problem on a plane if i was sitting on the ground longer than the fight was supposed to last, my queston is what happens if you just open the door and blow the emergancy shoot? i have no qualms about it to get a point accross, as a matter of fact you might be a hero, i would depend on wether or not some water head gets sucked into the engine

I've heard that a flight to Austrailia from just about anywhere in the United States takes a full 24 hours. But I have a feeling those planes are like cruise ships in the sky.

I don't think I could sit on a plane, that's just sitting on the tarmac, for longer than an hour. I get really antsy.

our flight to vegas was 5hours+ an hour on the tarmac not to menton the two hours we had to be there ahead, we just stat in the bar and drank our selves silly before hand, when we flew to montana it took at least 8 hours 2 planes and 4 stops (hence the non stop to vegas) my issue isnt with the flight its self. it is the un reasonable delays on the tarmac or circleing an air port that bugs me

exactly.. I can stay put if we're actually going somewhere.. but to just sit on a plane for over an hour would drive me insane.

The problem with sitting on the tarmac is that the plane is in low power mode so the ventilation etc. isn't really working great. I sat once for an hour waiting to take off. They tell you they can't let you walk around or serve beverages because they could get clearance at anytime for take off and can't delay trying to get everything put away and people back in their seats. I'm also 6'4" and was not very happy. At least on a long flight, you can get up and stretch.
My sister and brother-in-law got stuck on Friday morning. They finally cancelled the flight and let them off the plane. They grabbed a hotel room overnight by the airport and flew out yesterday morning. The problem was they were going on a Caribbean cruise so they had to catch up with the boat at one of the ports.

I had this discussion with a few people. And I came to the honest opinion that 3 hours would be the absolute longest I would sit on a runway without taking off. After 3 hours whatever the problem was should be corrected or I am opening the door and getting off.

don't ever fly into Toronto during a snow storm then. I sat in the plane on the runway for 2 and half hours waiting to get de iced.

It's about 20 to 21 hours depending on the layover.
If you smoke I suggest some Nicorette gum. Cause it's hell.

it's great fun, especially when the lady beside you doesn't shut up the whole fucking time. If she was young, hot and frisky, great, but I always get stuck beside the old yappy ones

Ive flown to New Zealand from NY a few times, it's the longest flight Ive been on. Its obviously to far to fly straight there, so there's a stop off in LA. Then from LA it's straight to New Zealand which is approx 13 hours. It's definately NOT like a cruise ship, well I was flying enconomy Im not so fancy, it's more like a herd of cattle. Business class is so so. It's so fucking expensive to fly. All up the amount of time spent on a plane would be approx 18 hours, so yeah 24 hours with a stop over.

i think my flight from LA to Auckland was 16+ hours, then another 3 or 4 to Sydney. Not to mention the 6-7 hour layover in LA from Denver.

I've been to Italy many times. That flight is 8-9 hours. More than 12 hours on a plane is way too much for me. The only way I'd do it would be to the South Pacific/Australia, anywhere else, it's just not worth it.

I'm surprised people don't revolt on these planes. I heard 6 hours on the tarmac
was not unusual during this last storm. I'm like FEZ, I can go 8 hours without a cig if I have too. But in a stressful situation like that I'll need something

realy, what the fuck are they going to do if i light up? thow me off? call the cops? doing something is better than doing nothing. if that is what it takes to get some action ill hand them the fuck out to people
I smoke and usually have to fly 12 hours to get to Moscow. Plus the layover in Frankfurt in Summer '05 had me there for 28 hours.
Even though I smoke, I can usually hold off. It's hard though.

my airplane misery story was a flight into newark, during rain. I was coming back from vegas still somewhat drunk. the pilot couldnt land the plane, circled for an almost two hours, and decided to fly to logan and refuel. we sat on the runway of logan for another 2 hours.
when we got back to newark, he still couldnt land the plane, we circled for another hour and a half. finally we landed and sat on the runway, sat there for 45 minutes or so. it was 2002 spring break, so it was shortly after 9/11. its a wonder we werent arrested for the vile things coming out of our drunken/hungover mouths, and the ideas we suggesting aloud.

Sydney to LA direct takes as long as 16.5 hours non-stop (Depending on Tail/headwinds...) But LA to Sydney can be 2 hours shorter b/c of the spin of the earth..blows your fucking mind huh? I have done the sydney/Lax a few times (Wife went to school in AUS)...The crazy thing is you take off at 10am on a sunday morning from SYD, fly 16+ hours to LA and it is around 10:30 am THE SAME DAY...then you board a 1pm for Boston and Arrive in boston at 10pm the same sunday...or so and Viola, you have gone from Sydney to Boston in 13 hours...or 26hours real time!

Too long is long enough to the point where you're seriously considering fucking one of your relatives sitting next to you due to going so long without sex. Either that or eating your relative, which ever came first. This is a hypothetical length of time right? I submit that it take 27 days.

When I flew to visit my father's relatives in Syria, it's like 14 hours on the same plane.
Fucking brutal. It's enough to make you shit over a hole in the ground.....

Detroit to Manila wasn't too bad at 16 hours...but that's because the flight wasn't full. Manila to Detroit, though, was 14 hours of pure economy class hell...packed in like a sardine between an old Japanese lady and the rib of a 747.
And then, when we land in Detroit, my wife had to complain that the footrest on her business class seat didn't go back all the way http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c73/SparkyII/smilies/eff-off.gif
