Ok Mods, I know this is sports/TV related, but if you could please leave this on here, and possibily even sticky it for a while, you would be supporting our fellow member Rance.
The reason I would like it here is that many non sports/MMA fans wont be looking elsewhere and wouldnt know to support him.
Rance, aka Joe Lauzon will be a featured contestant on the UFCs reality show the Ultimate Fighter which premieres this Thursday April 5th at 10pm on Spike TV.
What makes this even more interesting, is that Rance is one of only a few contestants who actually has had a UFC fight before, except his was against one of this season's coaches, Jens Pulver, whom he knocked the fuck out in less than 2 mins.
Additionally we would love for somehow the boys to find out and maybe get him on the show to promo the show, or even if the UFC would like, to do a call in on the friday after the show every week to talk about it much like Trump used to until the boys ruiiinnneed it.
On top of that, the guy is always looking for sponsorship for his career. How awesome would it be to have an XM or just and O and A on this guys shorts for a couple of grand, Ope makes that from 6:00-6:02 every morning (jk, we know it's more).
Please support the guy, he has been a long time fan of the boys.

lol Now we have demands from the guy. he cant wear a shirt on the show. its not live you dummies, it has already been recorded.
the sponsorships, and specifically the shirt they put on immediately after the each live fight, is a big part of each fighter's revenue. so the show would have to seriously pony up some cash for that.

Hey Joe S., where are you training out of? I have read about some 18 year old Irish kid, Gallagher I think from toms River I think that is supposed to be up and coming. I would love to train, just cant afford it.

04-05-2007, 08:30 AM
Hey Pale,
I train waaay down in Vineland.
EvoFightClub.com
If you're near tom's river you probably aren't in a reasonable range of me. But you've got some good schools in the area. Depending on where you fall Philly has some really good schools....Fight Factory, Team Balance, Team Rhino I believe are all out of Philly as far as I know, and I've met some of the guys.
There's also Real Fighting Dojo in Ocean NJ (don't know if that'd be close to you) but there's some good guys out of there. I fought a guy named Mark Berrocal out of there, who's a really tough fighter. If you go check them out and meet Mark just tell him the guy Joe he fought in December told you to check him out.
And if you're more up North dude you got tons of fantastic options. Matt Serra has a school on long island I think, there's a Henzo Gracie school in manhattan....there's a machodo school in manhattan, and like...I don't know a good handful of other places. You should definitely check them out.

Joe,
I'm in Monmouth county, so Ocean isnt to far. I would love to work out with Serra because I think he is a terrific coach, as was evident on TUF 4. Honestly, with a 4 year old, I dont have the time or money to do it. Maybe one day.

Very cool man, if you're near Ocean, then go check out the 'Real fighting' school. You should be able to find direction with a quick google. I don't personally know anyone else there besides Mark, but he's a good guy. I've seen him and talked to him at a number of fights since December and he seems like good people.
Hey you're busy, that's understandable, but you don't have to have aspirations to get in the ring to go check it out and maybe train 2 or 3 days a week. Just do it as a hobby/something to get in shape. It'll be good for you and it will really enhance the enjoyment you get out of watching fights too. The more you know about what's going on the more you'll have fun watching.

joe won his 2nd fight. he looked more impressive this time. he was in trouble a few times and fought his way out. kids got a lot of heart. he almost got dq'ed. accidental elbow to back of head. to the 2 more wins.
That was one of the best fights of any Ultimate Fighter... very aggressive and very exciting.

i think joe is going to go VERY far in mma. he is naturally talented, very skilled, smart, and a hard worker. all this and he's still very young.
i've been following mma since ufc 1. i've seen the sport grow and a lot of guys come and go. i definitely get a vibe from joe that he's going to tear the tits off this thing.
I see ufc lightweight champ within 2 years.
I think the current champ, sean sherk, would have nothing for joe. the problem is, I don't think sean will be champ for too long and this division is growing more and more stacked.

Gray and Brandon fight this round, so obviously one of them will advance. I think Gray will take the fight to the ground, where Brandon will have no answer for him.
I agree with you that Nate will walk through Corey. As long as Corey's height doesn't throw Nate off his game the way it did to Emerson, I think Nate wins easily(most likely by submission)
Wiman vs. Manny is easily the quarterfinal fight I am looking most forward to. I haven't seen enough of Manny to know how he'll do against a more polished fighter like Wiman.
Finally, even though all of this has already taken place, good luck, Joe. Hopefully, we'll be seeing you in the finale on the 23rd.

I still think the finals will be Lauzon and Diaz. Which will be an intense war.

your right didn't think about that. i think wiman will beat manny but if manny was fighting grey he would be in the next round. grey's a wrestler who has to develop his skills still

I'd say we are gonna see Joe vs. Gray next week.. They'll probably try and setup a Joe vs. Nate finals.
Nate didnt look that great in his win thursday, I dont think Manny matches up well against any of the guys left, a good wrestler will destory him. Gray doesnt have the stamina. IMO it's Joe's to lose at this point.
But anything can happen, and either way Joe's got a very bright future ahead of him.

grey is a bad match up for joe. joe has better hands and better bjj but grey is a great wrestler. It will be a good fight. I think Joe by tko in the 2nd. nate really hasn't impressed me much. He looked ok vs Emerson and he only beat Corey because of Corey's experience level. Plus Nate is a friggin punk and he annoys the shit out of me. I wouldn't count out Manny just yet. He's a friggin animaL MY REDICTION IS jOE VS MANNY WITH JOE WINNING BY SUBMISSION IN THE 2ND ROUND.

manny is a lil animal. he did just hold joe and wiman down but his base is so good you can't sweep him. great job joe. don't worry ufc will be calling you soon, your gonna be this seasons josh koscheck. you didn't win but you end up being the best one. I hope nate gets a fuckin beating i can't stand him. he wanted NO part of karo parysian, but he had to be the typical "I'm from the bario" punk. your trying to be a pro fighter stupid grow up!!

I can't fucking stand Nate. He got his ass beat in the first round the other night and I thought he was done.
Karo would have destroyed his ass. I love how tough he got when Parysian wasn't in the room too. "If he comes near me, I'm going to Pop him!" Are ya?

I'm still shocked to see Joe lose to Manny.
I don't think Joe brought his best to that fight.
Gotta give props to Manny though - his overall strength and balance allows him to pull out fights like this.
I'm also shocked to see Gray lose like that. Diaz has some seriously advanced ju-jitsu skills. He was getting bloodied by Gray, but just kept going for the submission. Eventually he got it.
I gotta also say that Karo came off like a total dick head. Where does he get off acting like that on a show where he's not even a participant on?
Joe confirms this asshole personality in his latest blog.
Anyway, good luck to Joe vs. Brandon Melendez on the 23rd.

does anyone know if Joe/Rance has contacted the show for an interview?
I mean, UFC regularly promotes stuff with Liddell and Rogan and others through the show, might be cool to have a guy on who was a fan before he was famous. With the finals of TUF 5 coming up and all, it would be good timing.
Speaking of which, does anyone know if Joe is on the undercard for the finals? Sometimes they do that (Matt Hamil, etc) when a guy who is really good gets knocked out.

Bullslawdan - you need to read these two thread:
http://www.wackbag.com/showthread.php?t=37711&page=87This explains Joe's issue with the show at the moment.
And here:
http://www.wackbag.com/showthread.php?t=64623&page=10An entire thread dedicated to the TUF shows.
Also, did you read the post directly about yours?
What do you think I meant by this:
good luck to Joe vs. Brandon Melendez on the 23rd.

Talk about a smart fucking fighter...
when they were interviewing him right afterwards he said when his opponent would give up his back, he'd go for the choke and then he'd squirm out of it. He said that he "noticed" that after that, his opponent would get on top and come in for a punch with his LEFT hand, and that the next time that happened, he was ready for it, and that's how he finally got that submission.
How smart is that? This guy is getting punched in the face and has the where-with-all to think about where that punch is coming from, notice a pattern, and then capitalize on that pattern for victory the next time it happens.
I like a fighter (and fight) like this SOOOOOOO much better than a one-lucky-punch knockout. What a great chess match that was.
