LOS ANGELES - A man has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges after bringing a 7-month-old Doberman puppy with broken ribs and leg injuries to a shelter and telling the workers there that his hands hurt from hitting her.

Isaak Gowhari, 34, was sentenced Thursday to 45 days in county jail after entering his plea to the misdemeanor counts. The judge also barred Gowhari from owning an animal for three years.

Gowhari's telephone number was unlisted and he could not immediately be reached for comment.

Authorities said Gowhari came under investigation after he gave Gracie, the puppy, to an animal shelter.

"Gowhari told the animal shelter workers that he was surrendering the dog because his hands hurt from hitting the animal," said animal control Officer Ernesto Poblano.

Photos seized by investigators showed Gracie's snout taped shut and her legs bandaged.

"At times, Gowhari did get Gracie medical care for the injuries he inflicted, but he apparently did not follow up on treatments and the injuries became aggravated and did not heal," Poblano said.

Gracie recovered from her injuries and has since been adopted.

the worst part is the asshole will go out and buy another dog. shit like that pisses me off. our last rescue was abused, and it showed, in all the years that i did rescue he was the first dog that i acculy wanted to put down, so i shipped him off to another rescue

My dog as a lil' sick yesterday. Vomited 3x between noon and midnight. It was all clear liquid, with some grass in it. He's fine today. Been eating and behaving normally. But yesterday, he was so scared like he expected to be hit or something when he got sick. He wanted to stay outside and hide from me and stuff. I had a hard tim getting him to come back in and every time I moved he'd cower like he was expecting to get punched in the face. I think his original owners might have smacked him around and I am pretty pissed. I had to reassure him that he was a "good boy" and I slept on the recliner-end of the sofa and let him snoose up there next to me all night.

Your right on this. I have read many studies on this theory when I was in school.

Another interesting tidbit: They have found that kids that like to abuse animals, set fires, and wet their beds into puberty often turn out to have serious emotional problems as adults and tend to end up in prison.

My mom actually had a cat one time that had some sort of problem that caused it to die a horrible painful death. As cats are prone to do, it was trying to hide somewhere in the house to die in peace.

So I was instructed to take my rifle, take the poor thing out into the woods and put it out of its misery. I wussed out and took it to a vet and paid to have it put to sleep.

I would have no problem ripping the throat out of a person who hurts harmless beings, but I could never kill an animal. I don't even like hunting or fishing much.

Edit: And before someone asks, no I'm not a vegetarian. I'm a hypocrite who even loves veal.

I felt absolutely nothing watching the 101 punching video (ok, maybe a little titter, it looked like something from a Wayans movie).

Yet the idea of beaitng a doberman puppy bothers me.

Man, I am not the only one...

As for people most of the time we all deserve what we get one way or another.

But I can't stand to see animals hurt or killed. It is a good thing my food comes pre-packaged or I would be fucked. Meat is delicious so I just pretend it came from Safeway and not from the wild.

I agree with you guys...no fucking way could I do that do a dog. My father used to take me hunting and I just didn't want to shoot a deer.

I can shoot rabbits and small shit like that, but it got to the point where I didn't really enjoy it.

Love to eat it all though :)
