I am a chemical salesman, not a lawyer but all the talk about Freedom of Speech has me confused. Maybe some lawyers that frequent this board can help:

I always assumed Freedom of Speech only extends to the fact that you cannot get prosecuted or arrested for what you say. Getting fired, punched in the mouth, getting demonstrated against is not the same thing. Anthony used the example that it is not Freedom of Speech that if you say something and get punched in teh mouth everytime you say it, that is not Freedom of Speech. Well, as I understand it, it is unless it is teh gov't/police that are the ones condemning you or hitting you.

I think what is happening with Imus is absolute bullshit but it is not the FCC that is suspending or fining him. It is the bosses of a corportaion taht are deciding what he can or cannot say. And I don't think "Freedom of Speech" defense applies when you are talking about the rules of an employer. [The "get the fuck over it" or "tune in to an urban channel and hear far worse" defense is a lot better in my opinion.]

Anthony was saying that yes it is freedom of speech but that will not stop you from getting fired or punched etc. because no one stands behind that right to express your freedom. So that right really does not count since a list of things can happen to you anyway.

Sucks what Imus is going thru, but this is no freedom of speech issue. Its a political correctness issue which is without set guidelines or standards. Like the FCC rules "there is no set things you can't say, we'll penalize you if we find it offensive." Its the N.....FCC or (Beep)FCC betweem 6-9.

So before anyone tries to make me look like some kind of right wing nut, i'll elaborate on my last reply. The current political landscape especially the view put out by the democratic party which seems to be taken over by the extreme left wing which encourages this political correctness that is like a disease across this country. I'm referring to the "liberal run media" i.e. NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN with seemingly FOX as the voice of the right and personally i think they ALL FUCKING LIE and are full of horseshit but getting back to the bullshit about Imus and those two sparkling wiggles REV.AL and BROTHER JESSE none of which i understand what the fuck they're saying. Also, the bleeding heart liberal whites who feel guilty about everything that happened since the crucifixion of christ who bend down and kiss their fucking asses everytime some dopey white guy does or says something stupid and in imus's case is blowing this way, way out of proportion. Now, he's fucked unless he goes over to satellite radio which may be the only way he'll work in radio again. This is a freedom of speech case, and if he goes watch out for the boys and look for them to go back to satellite exclusively maybe before the merger takes place...IF it takes place.

Nothing more true than that. I'm sick of the bullshit appologies we (the majority of America) have to spew out because some poor individual was offended.
