What Country do I live in? (Free Speech is dead)

I'm black (I know, who cares?), and I thought Imus' joke was in bad taste and stale. But does that mean he should be the focus of the entire media for a week leading up to the termination of both of his shows? HELL NO!

I woke up this morning with a chill traveling down my spine, wondering what new dimension sucked me in. Free Speech is dead! Here in NYC, children are deprived of having dictionaries in the classroom because the Mayor, bypassing the Dept. of Education, feels that students would learn in a more productive way from each other and not with a reference tool. AND YET, WE ALL GET PISSED, WHEN IMUS SAYS, "NAPPY HEADED HO?" What Country do I fucking live in?

Do not think for a second that black people are happy. This has done nothing for our real issues. We still have institutionalized racism in the corporate world, we still have zoning laws that allow liquor stores in our neighborhoods and prohibit the construction of buildings that would have more beneficial social programs operating inside of them. AND YET, WE GET PISSED BY HEARING "NAPPY HEADED HO?" MY GOD, WE ARE NOT ACCOMPLISHING ANYTHING, WE ARE GOING BACKWARDS!

I can't type anymore, I am so fucking pissed. There are real issues out there that should be addressed, and yet my "leader" felt that this was more deserving and possibly easier to go after. I'm tired of the racial divide in this country.

Phafu, we don't have to be the same "race" to recognize bullshit. We both have two eyes, two ears and a mouth, and are able to procreate (well, if you were a girl, because I wouldn't be the chick here). We are of the same race.

I don't think we've lost our freedom of speech. I just think we've run out of rational-thinking individuals with influence. We're not losing our freedom of speech and to be fair, the people who bitch in response are using the same amendment - and the First has never shielded someone from criticism after the fact.

It's just that we're turning into a (for a lack of better words) a faggoty country. Instead of rational discussion about serious issues, we get someone fired like that solves the problem, when in actuallity, it perpetuates it.

We used to be a cool country. Now we're the Richard Nixon of the world - uptight, paranoid and full of shit. I'm sure they're laughing their balls off at us in the UK. When our founding fathers formed this country, I don't think they had any idea that we'd become what we are. We were supposed to be free and rational - we suck. I love America but sometimes I'm ashamed that we let a vocal minority (not just blacks, all minority groups) dictate what happens in the country. That's not what America was supposed to be about, that's not what Alexander Hamilton had in mind - actually that's a bad example, he was a closet monarchist - but you know what I'm saying.

We're hypocrites. We preach freedom, ideas, democracy but we cower in the face of it.

why cant we have more rational thinking people like you in this world? oh wait we probably do but we only hear from the asses that get on their horse when the need suits them. real issues will never be resolved so long as we let people like rev al grab the spotlight and keep it for an entire week.
