So anybody else going to see this? I know most people either loved or hated the first one but it has to be a really shitty zombie movie for me not to like it. Plus, fuck the purists; fast zombies rule.

EDIT: I know they're not technically zombies but for all intents/purposes they might as well be.

Maybe if they do this right. There was what, two zombies in the entire first movie? So boring.

Opening day falls on my 18 month aniversary with my chick. Luckily she LOVES zombie movies, so going to see in opening day is a no brainer (nyuck, nyuck, nyuck).

the first one was fantastic, so i'm definitely seeing this one. kinda bummed that there are Americans in the story. 28 Days Later was a very British film and that was one of the reasons that made it so great, and i know the end hinted that the U.S. Army came to the rescue. i just fear that now the U.S. Army is involved, they're going to make yet another allegory for the American occupation of Iraq, as if we haven't had enough of that in movies and television.

I'm pretty sure there was no hint about the US army - a few jets flew over and they were speaking swedish. I think what'll end up happening is it will be confirmed to us that Great Britain was the only place affected, ie the outbreak was all confined to the big island. In this movie it will break out and the whole world will have a problem so yeah naturally the US is involved now.
Anyway I hate the trailer. Not sure why. I 80% loved/20% hated the first one (hated the shit out of all the army guys & everything associated with them). The trailer just seems all, I dunno, weird. I just get a lot of bad vibes from it.
I liked the first one, interesting story and good scenes, better then some other Zombie style films. I want to see this one.

First time I saw the Dawn of the Dead remake, I said the same thing. That one little change actually makes em scary.

The hardcore Romero fans can eat a dick; they tried "modernizing" his zombies and look what happened - Land of the Dead. Aside from John Leguizamo as a zombie, the movie was shit.
Meanwhile, Dawn of the Dead 2004 and 28 Days Later were great films because if something is trying to kill you and is as fast, if not faster than you, it's a scary fucking thought.

I saw the 1st on video, but I still don't consider it a "zombie movie". I'll prolly see it, although on video, not in theaters.

I prefer slow zombies to fast zombies, but I can see the appeal of both. I'm not one of those people that gets pissed because things change and are adapted. That being said, the concept of the slow zombie horde is a much more interesting threat to me than fast zombies. Fast zombies, it's instant chaos and you really have no choice but to run, preiod. There are no options. You run and hide or die. Slow zombies are just as deadly, but also give way to many more options for stories.

How could you not laugh at the scene with Dennis Hopper, when he shoots that guy in the back of the head?

loved 28 days. really hoping this one doesnt suck. and the whole debate between slow and fast zombies.. i know the slow ones more represent original horror movies.. and the whole they just keep comig back thing but i never enjoyed it. it wouldnt bug me if some clow corpse kept following me around. as long as i jogged at a moderate pace and kicked it every now and again id be fine. fast zombies??! they seem to have retard strength mixed with crack smoking speed. id shit my pants.

See, that's scary in a much more interesting way to me. One slow zombie isn't a problem at all. But what about 10? What about 100? 1000? When and where do you sleep? Where do you go? What do you do as more and more zombies keep popping up and society slowly falls apart around you? Like I said, fast zombies aren't bad in my eyes. I enjoy both styles. I really enjoyed 28 Days Later and the new Dawn Of The Dead, and I'll be seeing 28 Weeks Later on opening day. I just prefer the slow, never ending, no matter what you do you'll eventually screw up and be infected, zombie horde (hoo hoo :action-sm ).

That's why zombie movies scare me more then any other. The zombies always end up winning in the end (except for Shaun of the Dead). No matter what you do or where you go, they'll find you. That and being eaten alive by decomposing humans is a horrible way to go.

That's why I bought this book and read it cover to cover:

It's great because it takes itself seriously the whole time. If there really were a zombie uprising, this book would be the new bible.

Anyone else see this tonight? I was grinning after the first scene. It was fucking hardcore and the movie remained that way throughout. I have had that damned song from both movies stuck in my head all night.
Robert Carlyle was also a nice surprise. I've been a fan for awhile.
Someone on imdb described this movie perfectly: 'Best sequel since Aliens.'

i liked it, didnt love it. fast zombies.. awesome. shitty fast action camera work so you dont have to really do anything with a scene.. hate it. some really great scenes though. loved the helicopter in the field. love the direction they can go with this being that now there are people who can be carriers.
who saw the preview for resident evil? looks sick.

Yeah I wouldn't say the movie as a whole was great. I thought it had some great scenes...I saw it in a brand new state of the art theatre with a rediculous sound system so that opening scene just blew me away...but it lost me in parts...and some of the edits were poor...but overall i enjoyed it...theatre was packed with kids

The shaky cam brought bad memories of Bourne Supremacy, but the storyline itself made it forgivable.

saw it tonight, really great. not as good as the original, but damn close. the film's look is close to the original's, although the original had a slightly grainy look to it. i liked that it was grainy as if shot with a handheld camera because i thought it added a bit of authenticity to the film. but this time the film doesn't look very grainy, but the shaky camerawork is still there in several scenes when the infected "zombies" attack. there were a few contrivances though. one of the zombies somehow manages to be everywhere the survivors are throughout half the film as if he's actively targeting them and seeking them out instead of indiscriminately attacking anyone it encounters. and somehow a civilian manages to get control of an entire building in the Army-controlled quarantine area. and there's a scene involving a helicopter that is almost identical to a scene from Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror half of Grindhouse. aside from that, the film is an awesome adrenaline rush.
Loved it.
The part where they sniped everyone was awesome. My problem with the 1st was not enough killing and gore, something that this delivered on perfectly.

Just got back, awesome flick. There are some huge problems with the logic in the storyline, but fuck it, all was forgiven IMO during the last third of the movie. Scarier than the first. The knitter contingent that rolled in right as the movie started and sat next to us ensured I didn't hear a bit of dialogue during the opening sequence, especially over their screams. At least they left their illegitimate chirren at home.

God, I went to watch this movie at the UA in Huntington Village yesterday.
First, the schwoogies there didn't turn the lights off in the theatre, so I lost 15 minutes of the beginning trying to find someone and at the same time, I got a refund, then got into a fight with the manager because I went back into the theatre to watch the movie.
Lazy schwoogies. If they weren't acting a certain way, there would have been no trouble and no refund.
Next, a transformer blew up and blew a manhole cover off by the starbeans, for which there may have been some injuries as well. It ended up knocking out power to the movie around where the people became reinfected and code red was called. So now I'm torrenting camera videos of it so I can at least get to the ending.
Thus far, it's a great flick. Can't say if it's better than the first one, but it does capture some of the feeling, although 28 Days was a masterpiece and had a storyline twist/deviation.

Finally got around to seeing this tonight. I loved it. It was a completely different movie than 28 days which was much more character driven vs. this being an action movie.

I'd put it at the same level as the original as far as enjoyment but some parts annoyed me like the father tracking his kids even after he's infected. Still a good movie though.

But I loved the ending.
