Rescue Me season 4 starts up again on June 12th. O&A should get an apperance out of Denis Leary in the next few weeks to plug.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Tommy survives the house fire at the end of season 3.

The Boston Herald kinda goes into a little detail about what's to come for Season 4. Which I kinda wish I didn't read it, cuz now I kinda know some of the storylines and how they'll likely develop. In case some of you want to go in totally fresh, not knowing anything about the first episode or some of the storylines...don't click the spoiler.

Tommy does survive, but is under investigation for insurance fraud since they took out a $2 million insurance policy just prior to the fire. It's not clear what happened to Shiela...my guess is that she dies, since the Boston Herald also mentioned that she took out a new life insurance policy, which puts more heat on Tommy. If that's true, then Shiela will live on as a ghost.

Janet has the baby and Tommy is forced to take care of it because Janet appears to have developed postpartum depression from the pregnancy (ironically, my wife is going thru the same shit!) and has no desire to take care of the kid at the moment. She also doesn't care for Colleen, who is into drugs and sex with her older boyfriend.

Tommy has many flings this season also...including one with a new female firefighter who saves Tommy's life in a fire.

The guys in the firehouse all think Tommy will be sent to prison, so they're trying to get a new basketball court built instead of a street hockey rink that Tommy and Probie wants. The Boston Herald also kinda hints that Chief Reilly dies or is in really bad shape. Which may be the reason why we see Chief "Needles" Nelson, played by none other than Adam Ferrara, as either the new chief or another temporary chief.

It looks like she's part of the untold result to last season's cliffhanger. We were left with Tommy and Sheila passed out in the house fire. Apparently, they were rescued (or at least he was) by a female volunteer FF. So, he must have said he owes her dinner for the save and she's trying to get him to follow through on his deal.

So I guess the episode proved that Sheila is not dead. She was making out with some guy, and other people did talk about her. She was not seen talking to anyone really directly except for Tommy, but I guess she is alive. She even said that was the dude who saved her life who she was making out with. But who knows, they could still swerve us or something.

I coulda swore she talked with Tommy's lawyer (cousin Eddie).

It seems like they aren't doing much in the firehouse anymore. Both episodes they went on 1 call each and spent minimal time in the house together. Most of it were off on eachothers seperate story lines.

Loved it...was not expecting that...thought he was gonna die of a heart attack or something, butit really fits his character...hate to see the cheif go but it truly does fit...no way he was gonna be able to handle being a desk jockey, so he cleaned up all his affairs, mended the fences with his son, made sure his wife would be taken care of and ended himself.

And the fucking thing i love about this show is that they showed it with no apology....alot of networks would have either pulled the episode or at least posted a disclaimer with all the media news on the Benoit family...but not Rescue Me..balls to the wall, end it with a suicide

After the season premier one of the people at the cast party said something to the effect of "hope you aren't too attached to any of the main characters" So, of course every episode so far I've been waiting for the big kill off. The entire episode while I was watching the chief, all I could think of was Brooks from Shawshank. They did a decent job of hiding the suicide, but I have to say, I saw it coming a mile away thanks to the fucker at the premier party blowing it...

On a side note, Leary bangs every ten minutes last season. This season he has one of the hottest chicks (to me) in Hollywood, Jennifer Esposito, and he won't bang her.....c'mon Leary.....what's up?

It was the whole putting on a good act thing. Tommy was pretending to get the shit kicked out of him while the Chief was pretending that he was ok with the desk job and the entire commitment ceremony. Definitely a shocker.

Thanks for 'splainin' it. I didn't get that connection either.

But they - also kept flashing to cunt wife Janet and the baby. I was terrified she was going to do something to the baby. I was freaked.

Yeah, I hate to see the Chief go too. He was a great character.

Geez - how many gay themes can this show go through? They seem to effortlessly cover the whole hetero-guys-squemishness with it - while at the same time showing it in a (dare I say) positive light. The whole thing with Mikey is hilarous. The chief dealing with his son's lifestyle completely serious (and pretty realistic).

Consistently one of the better shows on TV.

As for Tommy and the female firefighter - they're just building up to it. Teasing it. He'll be banging her soon enough.

Fucking best show on TV. Not one tease about the suicide. Most shows/networks would have ruinnnneedd it. I will say this, I thought he was just going to die of a massive heart attack while looking in the mirror. I thought it would be kind of ironic with him taking care of himself, looking forward to playing golf, etc. Well the fucking writers gave me a big "fuck you!".

2:1 odds, we see Garritty playing golf with Chiefs clubs.

Should've seen it coming when the Chief said he fixed Gavin's problems at headquarters. By the time the montage started I figured out how it would end. Just like some old people can't live without one another, some people can't live without their jobs.

Did you notice that Peter Tolan plays Chief Pecher? If you like behind the scenes stuff, the actor who played Chief Reilly doesn't like Denis Leary (http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/portal/site/TelevisionWithoutPity/menuitem.766266d5c663f366b180b41045001d30/?vgnextoid=9cf4cf35cbf63110VgnVCM1000006dc1d240RCR D&vgnextfmt=default&ShowName=Mondo%20Extras). Speaking of Leary, why hasn't he been on O+A to promote season 4? I'd be annoyed, but Adam Ferrara was on and he always kills.

If that interview is at all accurate, it is kind of interesting. But there is always 3 sides to the story, Leary's, chief's, and the truth.

It is nice to see Adam getting some more face time. Should be interesting seeing the house with a new young chief and all that goes with that.

When Tommy was going off about how brave the chief was, did anyone else notice that when he yelled at Sean they edited something out? I watched the replay at 11 but couldn't make it out. Did they try and slip a fuck by?

I had also read that the chief was not happy about being killed off. He was saying that Leary didn't even have the balls to come tell him what they were doing. It was also said in the same article by Leary that he's not gone. Like everyone else that dies, they are still on the show in some form. Although you sure don't see his kid or his brother Johnny much.

Holy shit does that piss me off! I want to know what Denis did there.
I invest the time to watch the show because I appreciate the talent of the artists I choose to watch. I want them to be able to do anything they choose, and let the audience sort it out rather than the censors.

It's time for a pissed off group with a fortune to spend to start a new broadcast industry. O&A, Imus, and R&F are a good foundation. New radio stations, TV news, everything.
Fuck trying to fix what exists, reinvent it.

I agree that it is very funny, has some of the best dialogue on TV and is completely unapologetic...however, the storylines have gotten very soap opera-ish and outlandish the past 2 years. Now we can add post-patrem depression/mixed with mother's alcoholism and/and possible baby theft from Sheila to the list of every other sensationalitic storyline out there they have done as well. The show used to be rooted in some sort of reality...now it is Melrose Place set in a NYC Firehouse.

Well with the exception of the potential baby theft by shelia (although with this friggin show, it just fits the bill) things like post partum depression and mother's alchoholisms are the type of things that these guys will deal with in real life. There are more men dealing with crazy wives after pregnancy than you realize, and how these guys deal wth it is actually somewhat interesting.

The one thing I like about this season is that they are slowly moving along the storylines. Unlike other seasons where a storyline would only take an episode or two this season is progressing slowly. My problem with this is that alot of the storylines this year aren't as interesting as some of the others from the previous seasons. But I will still be watching every week that is for sure.

Gotta agree with you there. For some reason Im just not feeling it this season. I think losing the dynamic between Tommy and Johnny has really hurt the show this year. No way he drowned the baby, if only because of all of the heat they got from last season's **** episode. Murdering an innocent baby would be just too much, even for this show.

With that said, the obvious choice would be to give the baby to Sheila, but something tells me he didnt do that. He probably gave it to Needles wife to watch until he can think of what to do with him permanently.

1/2 hour before tonight episode and if not tuning in to see what happens to the baby there isn't really much else going on. Thinking back seems everyone is going to be single again (nuns gone, spanish isn't getting married, Tommy's sister is out) So everyone is back to square one, hanging onto the job.

I'm guessing Leary is setting it up to be one big finale.. with him either leaving or getting killed off. Even with something "missing", next to entourage, it's still one of the best on TV.

Agreed. At one point it seemed like they were actually trying to develop his character, back when he was banging the female firefighter a couple of years ago. Then once she left he went back to the womanizing Franco, then just as quickly he was in love with the crazy afro chick he's with now. Theyre also not consistent at all with his feelings for his daugher, either.

At least Sheila doesnt pretend to ba anything she isnt. She's an unhinged obsessive psycho.

Janet, on the other hand, is a complete hypocrite cuntrag who I absolutely cannot stand. Speaking of which, I love how all of a sudden she has this great job when a few episodes back she was home with the kid and a depressed mess. WTF ? If its one thing I hate about this show its the glaring inconsistencies with the characters from week to week.

yeah janet is complete garbage as a person. I have to imagine the character is supposed to illicit hate. they have to want you to hate the bitch. why else write a character who dips out on a marriage after 9/11 cause she couldnt/wouldnt deal the emotional trouble that caused people? the character just has no heart in that sense of sticking by your people when things get hard

she bails out everytime

He stole that guy's jacket because they were on a three day drinking bender I believe is what Lou said in the firehouse. Something about celebrating a 35th birthday. Tommy knew that none of them could get it done.

I heard the conversation and I have the same question.

I think he was just trying to cover for the other guys on the truck (because they were drunk, and that's why he was on a job with none of his own gear, on an off-shift). Plus, the new Chief already thinks he's nuts and/or a fire-follower, and he doesn't need an excuse to transfer him.

By the way, 2 more episodes???? WTF??? This season has been SO up and down. I know that there had to be a transition from the incredible last season, to start some new path, but everything seems kinda disjointed, and I don't know why. Gina Gershon is a distraction, Franco is just annoying all of a sudden, and even Garrity isn't as funny with the current "i'm an alcoholic, too" storyline.

It just seems unfocused. Last season revolved around the central issue that brought the show about in the first place: 9/11, and all of the emotions wrapped up in that. This season doesn't have anything holding it together.

Why would his coma have subplots? Part of the theory is that it's part Tommy's coma/part real world or that people are by Tommy's hospital bed telling him things going on in "real" life and it's influencing his dream.

My point was it's a stupid, hopeful theory by someone who didn't like the current season and wants a do-over. I don't think even the worst writer in the world would pull some hack, dream sequence, wizard of oz bullshit on an ENTIRE season. Even that dumb scene at the start of the last episode where he's in the empty firehouse and goes out back to find everyone dead had me rolling my eyes within the first 10 seconds of that predictable horseshit.

Yeah this season has been kinda all over the place.

But I think it's hilarious how Sean wants to be an alcoholic so he can be accepted by the Gavins.

Also, they really need to get rid of Mikey. That needy little douche has been killing the vibe of the show.

Mindslayer
09-01-2007, 01:07 PM
It looks as if they are trying to slowly faze Mike out of the show. The introduction of Black Shawn and then benching Mike with a broken leg for half the season seems to indicate that theyre looking to write him out. I thought for sure that this was the case when he was toying with suicide, and for a minute I thought that he was actually going to do it when he kept calling everyone and they all brushed him off (except Tommy, of course).

Or this marginalizing of his character could simply be that the actor needed time off to film another project or whatever. Guess we'll find out more once the season ends.

I am leaning toward him being in a coma, or he has been getting drunk again. Maybe these weird and strange things are what he is seeing/thinking when he is drunk. I know this show is over the top, and I love it, but it has been very strange and crazy this year.

The only thing that would make the coma hard to believe is the fact that the subplots are going on as well in his head.

I'm really starting to lean towards this theory at this point with only one episode to go. There is just so many wacky plot points that don't really get explained. This last one with Tommy sneaking into fires is the most recent example. I thought that he was trying to scare the drunk firemen into drying out also as Sack of Chisels mentioned, but now it doesn't appear that's the case.

And does anyone else think the shadowy fireman Tommy has been seeing lately sounds a helluva lot like his cousin Jimmy? The shadowy figure does appear to have longer hair than his cousin did though, which would go along with the coma theory.....it could be Tommy's subconscious, if that makes sense. Perhaps there will be big reveal that it's himself in the finale?

I thought it sounds like Tommy.

That's what I've been thinking. The first time that guy showed up, I though it sounded like they had Denis Leary try and talk in a lower, deeper voice, and then threw some modulation on it.

It'll probably end up being a burned up version of him, and that revelation will be the last 5 seconds of the season.

i love the show but this season seems off.

it looks like Lou realized that Tommy might be sneaking into fires....but seriously who cares? I don't care about Mikey's broken leg. I don't care about Lou and the black chick. Artie Lang would've been a nice guest star, but dont' care for him in several episodes. The "family AA" meetings? Don't care. The crazy fresca chick? don't care.
(Edit) I also don't care about Tommy's daughter and the rock star and the baby. There I said it.

I do agree with whoever said that the shadow guy is Tommy all burnt up...i could totally see that.

Every season has a sudden death at the end...or weird twist....wondering what that is going to be.

Show hasn't been the same since Tommy stopped seeing the ghost of his cousin Jimmy.

Because it was glaringly obvious that it was going to happen the first time he found out it was Tommy's daughter.

Oh, and also because I've hated the egotistical dickwad since he started making demands before he'd join their house.

This was probably the weakest season. But still, even in the weakest of seasons...it remains one of, if not the best thing on TV right now. My opinion of course.

This was the first real peaceful season ending episode...compared to Teddy shooting the drunk driver two seasons ago, Sheila drugging Tommy and burning the house down last season...and Franco's accident and the guys beating Tommy up after they found out about him and Sheila at the end of season 1.

This season sucked. The writing has always been inconsistent but never more so than this season. The only storyline that had any real consistency and a real resolution was the end of Sean's marriage to Maggie.

As far as Tommy's Dad dying at the end, it was almost as if they threw that in for an afterthought, almost as if they felt that they had to have an obligitory death in the finale.
