Brad Pitt is set to star as classic cartoon hero He-Man in a remake of the 80s live action movie, which starred Dolph Lungdren.

(BANG) - Brad Pitt is set to star in a remake of 'He-Man'.

The actor is wanted by Legendary Pictures - who made 'Superman Returns' - to play the Master of the Universe in a new movie version of the 80s cartoon series.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "They are very keen on Brad for the role. He will have to bulk up though - he is very fit but not to 'He-Man' proportions."

He-Man - the most powerful man in the universe - is a sword-wielding hero with superhuman powers. The original cartoon series was one of the first TV shows to inspire a range of action figures, made by Mattel.

He-Man and his heroic friends defended the world of Eternia and the secrets of Castle Greyskull from the evil powers of Skeletor.

The original 'He-Man' film hit the big screen in 1987, when Cannon films produced a live-action movie 'Masters of the Universe' starring Swedish actor Dolph Lundgren.

If Brad, 43, turns the role down, '300' actor Gerard Butler, 37, is reportedly ready to step in to play the part.

Too late, there's already been a He Man movie. Saw it in the theater back in the day. It's embarrassing to even think about.

Yeah, it says so at the top of the story. It had Dolph Lundgren in it and it sucked.

I could not disagree more. I was a big He-Man fan as a kid and that 80s movie holds up as some great cheesy 80s sci-fi fun.

But there's absolutely no way that Brad Pitt does this. Even supposing this movie gets made.

There's been a script for at least the past three years. I read it back then. If I can find it, I'll re-read and post a short review.

As for He-Man. I think there was a script also, John Woo was supposed to be doing it and this guy Jason Lewis, who was one of those model looking dudes who dated Horse Face on Sex And The City was attached as He Man. But I guess that all fell apart.

The only problem with the 80's movie was that it took place on Earth. I wish it stuck more to the cartoon.

I think it will all comw down to on how good Transformers does this summer. The target audience is pretty much the same, basically if you liked Transformers when you were a kid, you also liked He-man and Thundercats.

Fuck that. Leap to the 90s and make an Exo-Squad movie. Exo-Squad was the best kid's cartoon of its time.

Was it sort of mech-based and they had mutants called neo-sapians or something like that? If so, I forgot all about that until just now, and yes it was awesome.

Regarding the 80's He Man movie, I remember being embarrassed to see it when I was 8.

As a kid He-Man struck me as being gay before I even knew what gay was.

Panthro on the otherhand was a badass. He had those crazy nunchucks and always got to drive the tank.

The one cartoon that should be a live action movie is G-Force, aka Gatchaman.

I think the same people that did the new Turtles movie are doing an animated version, but a live action G-Force would rock.

Kind of. Yes, there was a little bit of transformation, but mainly it was turning vehicles into hardcore killing machine vehicles.

The toys kicked ass.

Thundercats was the shit...snarf snarf

I can't deny that I was a huge He-Man fan, but would never go see the movie now. And, I can't see Pitt doing this film because A) He's a damn good actor B)He looks nothing like He-Man C)It will shit the bed

I would like to see a hot She-Ra...rated "R" film with T&A...Beastmaster/Conan style!

Maybe they can get Courtney Cox to reprise her role as the cute Boyish-looking damsel (think of her in the Bruce Springsteen video)
Cartoon Network updated a new He-man cartoon series a few years back and it was pretty good, too bad it stopped just when Hordak was coming into the picture. Don't think a movie can be pulled off here though.

That MUST happen one day. Trekkies would love it for the fact the cast was chock full of Star Trek cast members (Frakes, Sirtis, Spiner, Mulgrew etc). It was also one of the best written series since the original Batman animated series.

Keith David should actually make it onscreen this time. Fuck He-Man, gives us this.
