Haven't seen Citizen Kane in a long time, but Casablanca is a terrible, corny piece of shit. I almost defaulted to CK, but really - I can't think of too many movies made before 1960 that are actually 'good' by today's standards. Glad that 3rd option was there.

Casablanca, easily. Kane has its place among the classics, but there's too many quotable lines in the first for it to not be the better choice.

gotta go with Casablanca too. Casablanca has Nazis in it, Kane doesn't.

you're insane x2
gotta go with Casablanca too. Casablanca has Nazis in it, Kane doesn't. Kane has a shot of Kane chilling with Hitler in the beginning.
I go with Citizen Kane. CK is the type of movie I can watch like other people watch Goodfellas.

ANOTHER EDIT: And for those wondering, Ingrid Bergman never looked hotter than in Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbound.

Doesn't Hitler have a brief cameo in Citizen Kane?

Seen them both. I liked Kane but wasn't crazy about Casablanca. I like old films, but neither of them seem to hold up to me like "Rear Window" or "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington."
Kane by default.

Love Citizen Kane.
Orson Welles was a genius.... and like most geniuses only did 2 good things.

Casablanca is a great movie.
Citizen Kane was/is a groundbreaking masterpiece.
It's easy for people today to take filmmaking/storytelling techniques for granted and forget that back then they were revolutionary and it took geniuses like Wells, Griffith, Kurosawa, Hawks, Ford (and others) to break convention.

Casablanca is a good film that got great in the last five minutes. That final scene has all the memorable quotes, and has been parodied a lot
Citzen Kane is a movie that was great from start ot finish. Toland's cinematography, his use of odd camera angles, lighting that had never been done before. And telling the story through flashbacks keeps the story moving at a great pace, but also makes it feel like a mystery in a way.

See, I would've gone with his groundbreaking role as the narrator in Start the Revolution Without Me. ;)

Citizen Kane is only good for the directing techniques that everyone after Orson Welles stole. Way too slow paced for most peoples' tastes these days.
Casablanca is only good if you're a woman over the age of 60.

Citizen Kane is only good for the directing techniques that everyone after Orson Welles stole. Way too slow paced for most peoples' tastes these days. It's not too slow paced for my tastes. I like how it moves. And it's good for a lot more than directing techniques, I always thought the script might be one of the smartest and sharpest ever and it's damn funny. And it would be just as quotable if the quotes were short enough for people to recite. But it does deserve its credentials because the movie's direction was beautiful. There are so many iconic images.
