They had better start defending freedom of speech because once the shock jocks are all gone the next targets for "unpopular opinions/speech" will be the right wing radio shows such as Rush, Hanity, oreily ect ect ect.

My kudos:
After a whirlwind day of everyone getting the story wrong, you got it right. Satellite radio is supposed to exist so no one who isn't willing to pay for the service will hear it. If there can't be ANY haven for uncensored discussion... and more to the point... uncensored COMEDY, then we really have become too spineless to survive as a country.
"Freedom of speech... unless I disagree with it" is a horrifying future.
You (and Hannity... and yes Colmes too yesterday) have been the only breaths of fresh air in the media during this whole debacle. Again, my very sincerest of thanks.

If you watched the interview, you'd have seen there's no way Hannity took a stance against O&A - Mancow has worked with FoxNews before, and for whatever reason he represents the 'radio community' in such matters.

Nah. That was about the government forcing people to think they way they want.
Now Fahrenheit 451, that's what we're seeing. So-called "minroity" groups being offended and asking for things to be edited and then banned until finally people give the government the power to regulate and ban all kinds of thought that exists outside what they determine to be acceptable. Replace books with radio and it's almost word for word the same plot.

They can spin it this way, "so many people are outraged they will leave or never subscribe to XM or XM/Sirius".
Remeber on S4S2 there were also CBS cronies that asured O&A nothing will happen, just relax etc.
But look what happened. Words of "support" from SS are one thing, but in terms of actions Fox is clearly waging a campaign against O&A. If its supposedly not a big deal why is the same old thing being repeated over again?

There's a big difference between a homeless man speaking his mind on a pay service like XM (on an XL Channel no less with parental controls) and people having sex in a public location and the show promoting and talking about it on public air waves. In one case nasty words were said in another law enforcement was involved. One was an isolated event on public airwaves that was at the time one of a kind.. the other is following off the heels of Imus, JV and Elvis, etc. There are big differences and the support shown on Fox News is not only a big deal it's a major source of news that other media outlets use as a source of information.

How is Fox News showing support to O&A?
They were the first big news outlet to have this story and are making a big deal of the remarks made by charlie and the apology done by O&A.
In other words they are creating a vague scenarion where opie and athony are guilty of something, but they want YOU to decide while giving you think this shit is a big deal.
They continue to press this issue making it bigger than it would ever be. They are taking the "middle road", ie. we dont condone what was said but we believe in freedom of speech. Yea, while all the dumb ass brainwashed viewers immediately see those few buzz words and think O&A are liberals, rapists, terrorists, bashers, etc.

Wish I could've got to see the Shepard part. Nice to hear someone deflating the story to what it really is. Buncha dopey radio jocks who said something stupid.(In this case a homeless guest which makes it even less of a non-story).
Kudos to Shepard. Hope this is the beginning of a trend.

You might do your research about the show you're complaining about before going on a major news network to complain about it though. Complaining about it is fine, politics are what they are but in order to make a sound intelligent remark on a subject you have to know at least the basics first.
Granted... but these are people in the media we're talking about. :icon_mrgr

Compare what Fox News reporters have said (Shep. Smith, H&C both big names) to what else is in the media...

Makes you wonder how they are granted the "Expert" title... I've always wondered how some of the guys on ESPN/Fox Sports earned their "Expert" titles. ..is there a school for that? :icon_mrgr

The best thing that any so-called "supporters" of O&A in the media can do is to let this story die and not give it any more steam than it already has.
Right now, it is completely media-driven. As far as I know, there are no special interest groups behind it, and the White House and State Department have declined comment, meaning they don't give a rat's ass and would just like the story to go away.
It's Friday and this is the end of a news cycle on a slow news week. Let it die. If this starts up again in a brand new news cycle on Monday morning, then we have a REAL problem.

Bo Dietal was on the big story and he wants "his friends" Opie & Anthony fired from cbs radio. Even though it only aired on xm. He has children that could turn it on and wants congress to put restrictions on satelite radio. I guess Bo must of forgot who supported (and should) Imus and his ranch.
