I just got off the phone with Ermias Alemayehu, who wrote a piece for the Christian Newswire. He said (to me) that Opie and Anthony should feel some heat for what they did. I asked why, explaining that XM is a pay service, it's optional, etc. He actually compared it to yelling "fire" in a crowded movie theater. At that point, I told him I totally disagreed, saying that what they said wasn't a threat or made to incite any violence against Rice, Bush, or the Queen. He said that I'd want them punished if they said it about my mom or sister, and I said that I would not in the context of a joke. He had to go (they seemed to be getting a lot of calls), so it ended before I could get too much more out of him.
He seemed like a nice guy, we both talked very rationally, but his fundamental misinterpretation of the whole issue is scary. I told him that the comments probably crossed a lot of MORAL lines for a lot of people, but no legal lines, and he didn't seem to separate the two. We are in trouble as a nation.

A religious man with no sense of humor? That's surprising.

It's at the top of that article. The worst part is, you read these in your disgruntled news reporter voice, then you call one of these guys and it's just a normal person who thinks about something completely differently than you. His outrage may be hypocritical or misguided, but it wasn't phony. He didn't yell, he was polite. It's otherwise-rational people not understanding what XM radio is meant for, and what our freedoms mean.

Please try not to make us look like complete savages here- save that for if the boys do get fired. For now, be polite, be professional, but have a plan to send tubgirl to everyone you meet!

asking for fair reporting and very briefly stating your case can only help, if you call your local news rooms
every website has contact page, a tip line as well. even a minor positive influence is well worth the time
