Sean Hannity said earlier on his TV show on Fox News that JV & Elvis were just fired a few hours ago by CBS radio...
As of right now I havent seen any independent confirmation of that... but I have no reason to doubt Hannity...
Even though i never liked their show, this really sucks a big one...

I think BAM the free fm format is done. I am more afraid of the CBS side of the show. That is what people mostly hear. They must stop bringing the audio of the XM side of the show to the CBS side. Whats amazing is how the local stations here in nyc are just making this a non-issue. People interviewed on the street keep saying the same thing. Turn the knob. XM's saving grace is the channel blocking and the drop that comes on before they hit the air..."the virus is an XL channel which may contain explicit language...".
Just my thoughts.

If that's the case, they shouldn't have insulted the Chinese to do it. There's tons of them there.
By the way, I wonder if the firing happened as a response to the O&A situation.

That will not work for me. I love talk radio but I do not like political talk or cutesy soccer mom friendly morning drive shows. Hell, I have even noticed a bit of a difference on the local sports talk station here since this happened. They used to do some really edgy stuff but they have cut back a bit since that guy in San Antonio got fired for the Iverson bit.
I want to listen to some interesting talk when I am driving to work. I do not want to hear some blowhard do a 4 hour political rant and I don't want to listen to music.

Praying?
fuckin' a right, praying
get down on your knees and say a motherfucking prayer
that too hard?
does it offend your sensibilities?
ok, then chant
chant long, loud and hard
and over and over
still no good? you wanna move around a little while you chant?
ok, build a fire and dance around the fire while you're chanting
dance long and dance hard
still not good enough?
need a little more oomph?
okay, find a goat (or a pig)
light some incense
again, build a fire
get some robes (but no soup, and no tears--there are no tears in pagan idolotry)
and a long dagger w/runes written on the handle
(the runes are important, not impotent)
you & your friends get nekkid, then don the robes
tie the goat up
then start the chanting
then stab the goat w/the dagger, each of you, until it's dead
continue w/the chanting, tho
then skin the goat and carve out its heart
then each of you stop chanting long enough to each take a bite out of its heart
then lose the robes, smear goat blood all over each other's nekkid bodies, and start dancing around the fire
there ya go
your welcome
hope that helps
i mean, god forbid you actually pray or in some way shape or form send some kind of positive karmic energy to this shitty state of affairs we find ourselves in

I heard the same segment and tried to find another source but couldn't. JV and Elvis are also still listed in the line-up of 923freefm.com as of this morning. Usually they immediately rease any evidence of a fired personality's exhistence. I hope Hannity got some bad info and made an error in repoting their firing.
I hated the Doghouse and wanted them to get fired from the first time I heard them, but not under these ridiculous circumstances. I wanted them gone because they sucked, now I am forced to root for them to stay employed. This is so fucking ridiculous.

Left off the dial: Shock jocks dropped over Asian slurs
By LARRY McSHANE
Associated Press Writer
May 12, 2007, 2:32 PM EDT
NEW YORK -- One month after the firing of radio host Don Imus, a pair of suspended New York shock jocks have been permanently pulled from the air by CBS Radio for a prank phone call rife with offensive Asian stereotypes.
"The Dog House with JV and Elvis," hosted by Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay, "will no longer be broadcast," CBS Radio spokeswoman Karen Mateo said Saturday. CBS Radio dismissed broadcasting hall of famer Imus in April for his racist and sexist remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team.
The cancellation of the show, nearly three weeks after the show hosts were suspended, was another indication of the increased scrutiny on radio hosts and the heightened management sensitivity to complaints in the wake of the Imus firing.
"This is a victory not only for the Asian-American community, but for all communities who find themselves constant targets of racist and sexist programming," said Jeanette Wang, an executive with the Organization of Chinese Americans.
Mateo declined any further comment on the "JV and Elvis" show, which had aired on WFNY-FM immediately after the shock jock pairing of Opie and Anthony.
Gregg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia return to the station's airwaves Monday after issuing their own apology for a segment on their satellite radio program where they laughed as a homeless man fantasized about ****** Condoleezza Rice and Laura Bush.
Vandergrift and Lay made their comments one day after Imus' April 4 meltdown on his nationally syndicated program. The pair broadcast a call to a Chinese restaurant; the caller, in an exaggerated accent, placed an order for "shrimp flied lice," claimed he was a student of kung fu, and compared menu items to employees' body parts.
The initial airing of the call went unnoticed, but a re-airing of the segment after Imus's firing prompted an outcry from Asian-American groups. Vandergrift and Lay were initially suspended without pay, but Asian-Americans quickly demanded the same penalty applied to the much higher-profile Imus.
Mateo would not comment on the status of the DJs' contracts or whether they were still on the CBS payroll. Imus plans a $120 million breach of contract suit against CBS Radio.
As word spread about the fate of JV and Elvis, more than 100 people turned out for a Union Square rally to offer support for those two, Imus and other radio personalities under fire.
"It's not about whether you like what you heard or not," said Debbie Wolf of Far Hills, N.J., president of People Against Censorship. "I find censorship to be far more offensive than anything that was said."
The Rev. Al Sharpton, who played a major role in Imus' ouster, said Saturday that he wanted to meet with Hughes and Cumia's bosses at XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. over the **** comments on their show.
"My personal feeling is they should have already been fired," said Sharpton, who one night earlier had debated Imus producer Bernard McGuirk on the Fox News Channel. McGuirk was also fired from WFAN-AM.
McGuirk called Sharpton a "race-baiter" looking for attention when he led the campaign to fire Imus. Sharpton replied that Imus and McGuirk got what they deserved for making racist, sexist comments on the air.

This whole thing is ridiculous. I didn't get into JV and Elvis (although didn't hate them like many here did) but they were building a loyal following; a following that stations need to survive. The goddamn Radio Chick doesn't have that.
I am so sick of the tail wagging the dog in these events.
If they're smart, they'll put Nick Dipaolo in the slot or even better, move Ron and Fez there. That wouldn't be better for us but it would be better for the station in general.

I've only heard their show a couple of times while being home visiting my parents, so I really don't know how they are.
Could this whole asian incident just be the final straw that got them booted?
Were their ratings just flat out bad?
I remember Opie saying John Manelli wanted to make changes at the station, but wasn't being allowed to, could getting rid of them been one of them?
I hate seeing anyone get fired, but I would be much happier, if it comes out that it was their ratings that did them in, instead of this stupid phone call that wasn't all that offensive.
Any chance O&A 6-9 live, and a best of hour or repeat of the first hour from 9-10, I'd think it would help the ratings.

personally, no, the simple argument that its beyond fcc regulation, and its an XL channel, where listeners are constantly reminded that parental blocking is available, AND it was all done in a humorous nature should suffice to shut sharpten up.

Would this have even made the news if not for the merger? Fuck No. I see this as a conspiracy from the NAB and others who are against the merger trying to do whatever they can to kill it. I am sure that is what XM was thinking by making the boys apologize, (and yes I think they forced them into an apology). The quicker the merger either dies or is passed the better for everyone involved with O&A, both fans and staff.

XM did what they needed to to try to make the story a non-issue. Give a finely worded apology, which wasn't an apology and tell people how to block the show if they don't want to hear it.
I think they took a stand.
As a company, XM provides customers with tools to control what they listen to on XM. The Opie & Anthony Show appears on one of our explicit language channels (XL) which is clearly noted on the radio display and all our printed material. We also frequently mention on our explicit language channels that the content may be inappropriate for certain listeners, and that our service also provides our subscribers with the ability to 'block' channels that feature this type of content.

I just don't see the FREE FM format existing in the climate of radio right now. I can pretty much make a safe bet, that there will be a format change. The ratings are not the greatest, they have way too much controversy. The name of the station doesn't even make sense at this point. I think, they will switch to a safe morning show eventually, and then music for the rest of the day. Just my opinion. I think John M. really wants the hot talk format to work. But, if xm is getting heat for edgy radio, FREE FM is going to be a million times worse.
With Xm it should be a non-issue. I heard worse content back in the wnew day's. Just with bleeps placed in. Some of the wnew material was actually worse than the xm material. For example, they have to watch what they say about black people, and asian's. They played the dice on ice bit, where the word chink was used a million times by dice himself, and this was wnew. The world is just going in reverse, and its sick. But, I hope XM does not cave. We pay for the service. example: If people pay for HBO, do they really want to watch a censored movie, or tv series? I'm placing my bets, that they will be safe on xm.
Jv and Elvis, I feel sorry for them. Why didn't they just let them go. They strung them along like idiots, and then just fired them. The prank call was harmless. The people calling for they're firing, are just self important douches. They just want to make a name for themselves, and get some where politically. They honestly weren't offended. They have an agenda just to make a name for themselves. Its the same thing with rev al, and I can't believe people are still listening to him..
On an end note, I think the bboys will do just fine in adapting to the new climate of radio. It will be different from the old xm we loved before. But, there is really no choice. They will figure out a way to entertain us. And hopefully this trend of special intrest groups attacking will end!!!

what bothers me most is we pay for this service and these assfuck cuntcocks are trying to stick their noses where it doesn't belong.
Now, I could see if this was on radio where children could hear it maaaaannnn but I pay my monthly fee to hear uncensored radio and not watered down homoginized radio that you're forced to do on Free FM...even though you guys still manage to even make that funny as well.

Go over to SFN, and read through all the threads. They make O&a, and homeless charlie seem like they made "Threats". They even said Bubba's comments were safe, because it was placed in a song. They are still stuck in "Radio War" mode. They just need to grow up. Just look over there, and make sure you have a strong stomach, because its just upsetting that they actually believe that this will NEVER effect them.. This is a Free Speech issue. Pretty soon our own speech will be censored, if this trend continues. ( I don't want to rag on stern fans too bad, because were in this all together, so I just hope that they finally see the "Big Picture" )
I was even joking around with friends at caroline's last night. Whenever we said something offensive, one would point at another person, and just say "uh oh your suspended"
BTW Is it safe to request the song China Girl by david bowie in the year 2007, or will asian groups get upset?? ::car crash::

Ya know....I see all these posts blathering on about how "free FM" is basically done but XM should be fine....
Lets examine this theory....
Free FM has commercial breaks from corporate sponsers
XM has a mindnumbing litany of "promotional spots" (and a nice little list of corporate sponsers of their own)
Free FM is regulated by the FCC
XM is now self regulated by God only knows who and what ever whim strikes them at the moment (at least the FCC lays out "guide lines" that they choose to change on a whim, XM hasn't even given us that much)
Free FM self governs above and beyond FCC regulation
XM just made O n A look like assholes maaaan (hello exactly)
So far, the only difference that I'm seeing is that we're paying XM every month so we can hear O n A say fuck (and after last week I'm not really hopeful that we'll even have that for much longer...

XM is the future for talk radio. It should be evident to everyone at this point. The only reason for the apology is the pending merger. If satellite radio is ever profitable based on subs alone then all these special interest groups are fucked. WBL said that XM told Sharpton to go fuck himself. FM would never do that.

I just don't see the FREE FM format existing in the climate of radio right now. I can pretty much make a safe bet, that there will be a format change. Asian Slurs End Shock Jocks' Show on CBS
By LARRY McSHANE 05.12.07, 3:39 PM ET
One month after CBS Radio fired radio host Don Imus, it has permanently pulled the plug on a pair of suspended New York shock jocks for a prank phone call rife with offensive Asian stereotypes.
"The Dog House with JV and Elvis," hosted by Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay, "will no longer be broadcast," CBS (nyse: CBS - news - people ) Radio spokeswoman Karen Mateo said Saturday.
The cancellation of the show on WFNY-FM, nearly three weeks after the hosts were suspended, was another indication of the increased scrutiny on radio hosts and the heightened management sensitivity to complaints in the wake of the Imus firing.
CBS Radio dismissed Imus in April for his racist and sexist remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team.
Vandergrift and Lay broadcast a call to a Chinese restaurant in which the caller, in an exaggerated accent, placed an order for "shrimp flied lice," claimed he was a student of kung fu, and compared menu items to employees' body parts.
The initial airing of the call went unnoticed, but a rebroadcast after Imus's firing prompted an outcry from Asian-American groups. Vandergrift and Lay were initially suspended without pay, but Asian-Americans quickly demanded the same penalty applied to the much higher-profile Imus.
"This is a victory not only for the Asian-American community, but for all communities who find themselves constant targets of racist and sexist programming," said Jeanette Wang, an executive with the Organization of Chinese Americans.
Mateo would not comment on the status of the DJs' contracts or whether they were still on the CBS payroll.
Imus plans a $120 million breach of contract suit against CBS Radio.

The FM show is gonna remain unchanged. They already have safe guards in place.
What I meant was that i don't see the show surviving in its present form on FM in light of the JV and Elvis firing. The same safeguards were in place for them. The bit wasn't dumped. The bit had been played on the air before. Still, they were fired. The bit wasn't even that offensive. (I would have fired them for being unfunny hacks, but that's for another thread).
This whole situation is just fucked up. CBS and XM need to realize that their obligation is to protect their talent and to protect the freedom of speech. The only exception to that should be if their licenses are in danger, like an FCC violation. XM seems (for the moment) to get it. FM doesn't. CBS, at least, has shown me that they don't understand or accept their obligation to protect free speech. Firing Imus was simply ludicrous. JV and Elvis was worse. I guess John and Jeff soon will have to be careful what they make fun of, or they could be gone.
The pendulum has swung too far. Do I think you guys can make it work? Absolutely. You guys are brilliant. There has only been one day in the years that I have been listening to you that you didn't make me laugh: Friday. But eventually, they are going to take away all of your tools. As my mother once said, you can't make a baby if you're castrated.
What Homeless Charlie said was harmless. It didn't harm anybody, and nobody thought he was serious. It was all in fun. The fun was poked at the Sec of State, not an innocent girls basketball team. Yet it almost got you fired, on XM, and apparently, CBS was thinking about it. And we all know we will never hear from homeless Charley again, or as I like to call him the homeless Richard Pryor. That's a loss, because it was funny radio. It seems to be getting worse, and CBS isn't listening.
I wish you boys the best of luck. And I hope I am wrong.
Love you guys. Love the show. Hate Mandouche. Hate CBS more.

Here are some examples of XM getting it:
XM management - We find their comments deplorable (paraphrase)
Cancellation of the Black Philip show
O n A forced apology waddle doodle
XM not stepping up and correcting all the false media reports that the segment was about **** , that was never part of the bit.
XM is now officially a censored format, and what makes it even worse than being FCC regulated is the fact that no one knows who is regulating them and by what standards, at least with the FCC you have written guidelines that they will ignore, change, and add too at their whim....we don't even have that much to go on.
And I wouldn't put money down on the sloppy party bottoms that manage XM not meeting with Rev. Race baiter either...

what about the fact that sponsors (two so far) have pulled out of your show? I happen to agree. Let's just say, hypothetically, that this whole thing blew up like the Imus situation (thank God this doesn't seem to be the case so far). Even though the comments were made on the XM side of the show, the faggetty special interest groups start bitching to CBS that they shouldn't support the show b/c of the insensitive comments made on it, even if not aired over the CBS airwaves. CBS' track record speaks for itself when it comes to standing up for their talent.
I agree that XM is certainly the bigger issue right now, but I wouldn't say that FM has "nothing to do with it."
I truly hate the CBS side of things. Every morning, I wait in anticipation of the boys finishing the walkover so they can speak freely.
I understand that everyone's ego causes them to want to be loved by the most possible people. The guys are no different but, if it were me, I'd much rather make my ridiculously comfortable living by saying what I want, without a shitload of commercial breaks, on satellite radio.
Of course, if the XM execs turn into pusses that bend to every external criticism, then we're all screwed.

I think that the majority of fans agree with you, and would prefer there was no CBS show, and only an XM show. BUT, we also UNDERSTAND the benefits the guys get by doing the CBS show as well. More money, more listeners, more opportunities, etc. I was pissed when they went back to FM, but I know if I were in their position at the time, I would have done the exact same thing. I do wonder, however, if the guys would have went back to terrestrial radio NOW, in the post-Imus world. I also wonder whether this whole fiasco would have even made the news if they were only on XM now, and weren't also affiliated with FreeFM.

Look at what FreeFM has doen for the show in terms of quality of guests, on both sides of the show, the fact is that FM offers a much wider fan base and therefore bestows a vastly improved credibility to the show on both formats, FreeFM was definately the right move in terms of benfit to the show, but it is on a clock that is winding down faster and faster everyday and the buh buh buh boys have basically called game over maaaaan from the moment Imus got anally invaded by the yard ape and the pc police.

the main reason I thought the FM deal was smart was that it would bring back the debauchery that the wnew show had- the money snatch, the 50 gallon drum challenge etc. a bigger fan base, random listeners were always needed for these bits.
but all we got was a bigger better homeless shopping spree. thats not the boys fault, they wanted to do these bits. but nevertheless it isnt happening. at this point, the only reason I dont want to see the boys leaving FM is because its a sign of defeat, even though yeah the show would probably benefit.

dance long and dance hard

okay, find a goat (or a pig)
light some incense
again, build a fire
get some robes (but no soup, and no tears--there are no tears in pagan idolotry)
and a long dagger w/runes written on the handle
(the runes are important, not impotent)
you & your friends get nekkid, then don the robes
tie the goat up
then start the chanting
then stab the goat w/the dagger, each of you, until it's dead
continue w/the chanting, tho
then skin the goat and carve out its heart
then each of you stop chanting long enough to each take a bite out of its heart
then lose the robes, smear goat blood all over each other's nekkid bodies, and start dancing around the fire
there ya go
your welcome
hope that helps
i mean, god forbid you actually pray or in some way shape or form send some kind of positive karmic energy to this shitty state of affairs we find ourselves in
No joke, but that really is offensive. I am a pagan, and doing that to any animal is against all pagans believe in man. That is satanism you are describing. Not paganism.
Oh, and fuck the pussies at CBS for firing JV and Elvis.

"This is a victory not only for the Asian-American community, but for all communities who find themselves constant targets of racist and sexist programming," said Jeanette Wang, an executive with the Organization of Chinese Americans.Even though I never listened to their show as I'm an XM listener not from the area, I think this sucks asscracks. Terrestrial radio is doomed if they continue down this road.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, who played a major role in Imus' ouster, said Saturday that he wanted to meet with Hughes and Cumia's bosses at XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. over the **** comments on their show.
Here we go again.

<Jimmy voice> Do they? </Jimmy voice>
Here are some examples of XM getting it:
XM management - We find their comments deplorable (paraphrase)
Cancellation of the Black Philip show
O n A forced apology waddle doodle
XM not stepping up and correcting all the false media reports that the segment was about ****, that was never part of the bit.
You make a fair point, but I don't agree. On the one hand, yes, they called the comments deplorable. BUT the important thing is that they (albeit diplomatically) if you don't want to listen block the channel. That's why we have channel blocking. We're not forcing anyone to listen. I think that's pretty smart response.
Would I rather they just said, "shove it up your ass?" Yes. But that would never happen, and even if it did, that wouldn't be good for the show. They very nicely threw the assholes a bone by saying the comments were wrong, and then said shove it up your ass by telling them to block the channel if they don't like it. So yes, I think XM gets it. For now. As WBL said, it remains to be seen if the XM show is censored. My prediction is that in the short run maybe, but the show will be back to normal on XM after this bullsihit blows over.

no joke, but i'm deeply hurt by your scathing critique of my awful religious rant
i'm a satanist, a sinner, and a thief
(i'm also a joker, a smoker, and a midnight toker, but i digress)
and laying it on like that to any hacky religious joke is really beyond the pale
that is heckling you're doing, not constructive criticism
but i deeply appreciate your supporting my right to go off on hacky religious rants :action-sm

first i am not a fan of j v and elvis, but i think they were dismissed for the wrong reason. i believe wfny was going to eventually replace them anyway.
that being said, CBS has given stupidity it's second champion. if a sponsor wishes to pull out let them. in fact help them and let them know that they do not need to advertise on any of their media, there are other media, stations etc. what cbs and nbc and all major electronic medias realize is they have power to make changes. lets get real advertising on tv and radio on popular shows make product popular.
look at the cigarette industry it was not until major media turned on them that it became unacceptable and unpopular in public opinion.
look at Budweiser, is it really good beer or do they just have good commercials.
(spike mc kenzie, the frogs etc) if they attack the media and the media goes on a blitz against them who will win in the end. media can be used very well to shape public opinion. today you are a hero tomorrow, a villain.
the same can be said for any other product.
propaganda is a powerful tool (al jezzera, Nazi's, political adds, and yes even commercials), a tool that can and does get used to shape pubic opinion, look at todays obesity craze.
The government is given a duty to perform the task of regulation, and we have a duty to decide what is acceptable to ourselves, not to others.
political correctness is a creation of Joseph Stalin, and look what that leads to.
there used to be an old adage that stated, never pick a fight with a man who buys his ink by the barrel. the media should remember who always has the upper hand because it is not the sponsor they come and go and usually come back.

Anyone know what is replacing JV and Elvis Monday? Does WFNY have another show lined up or is it gonna be another week of random guests? That house of wax guy will drive down the 9-10 hour so much worse than JV+E that the ratings will even suffer further. He is beyond unlistenable.

this just keeps getting worse and worse... just read the article on google about the jv and elvis firing and of course at the bottom, it says how sharpton is looking to meet with xm about the o and a show... this horseshit has to stop. let's face it... free fm (CBS RADIO) is about done here... if they cave in for a 3rd time, they might as well go back to playing music or just shutting the station down.
i hope xm doesn't give sharpton an inch. what a disgrace. with satellite, if enough people get fed up with something, sponsors can go and so can subscribers... maybe i wouldn't cancel my entire subscription, but instead of me having 3 radios under subscription, i cut that down to one... i'd like to think i'm not the only one who'd do that. let's say 1000 people did that, it would send a message... it's time, biff tannen (sharpton) gets an uppercut to the jaw so we can end this crap.
<shrug> I dunno, I found listening to Heather Graham dicussing masterbation rather entertaining...must just be me...
But that was on the XM side, no?

Yes, I'm pretty sure it was, and that is my point entirely, they never would have gotten Heather Graham on the XM side if they didn't also have the exposure of FreeFM.....
Don't believe it....just think back to all the screaming they did about not being able to get a decent guest on the show prior to the FreeFM move.

Three years ago Stern announced that he was leaving terrestrial radio because FCC restrictions and the climate of political correctness made it impossible to do an edgy and provocative radio show. At the time I thought he was full of shit...it turns out the Goblin was prophetic.

The problem is that it isn't stopping at commerial radio, XM just caved by getting up in front of the media and saying that they regret the "deplorable" comments made by the show and then making the buh buh buh boys apologize waddle doodle, making the boys do a non show on fri. for fear of who was listening and taking the buh buh buh boys off the XM front page, they have opened the floodgates to pay radio being subject to all the same PC bullshit that commercial radio is, maybe Sirius will show some testicular fortitude and actually back granma Stern when they come for him and I can Order a Sirius, Flush my XM, and go fuck my mother with a clear conscience when XM waters down the show or just fires them outright.
I'll never listen to Stern but I would buy a Sirius and let it rot just on pricipal if XM keeps this shit up.

In a strange way Bubba is doing O&A a favor by taking some of the spotlight. The more issues going at one time will only allow more people to voice their support for freedom of speech.
