Since they've apologized they have opened themselves to an unwritten set of guide lines. By defining "the line" to cross, anyone who throws an article online can try to get them thrown off the air. XM is a paid service for uncensored content.

On the other side.

XM is a company bigger than Opie and Anthony. While The Virus is the highest rated channel, one show is not worth interst groups villafing satellite radio. Since O&A are expendable, better to apologize and hope for the best until this blows over.

I don't think they should have apologized. Imus apologized and still got fired, so use the air time to publiclly stated their case. -cokelogic

i wanted to vote that xm did the wrong thing, but i saw "xm are pussies" and chose that.

this entire situation is weird. people are acting as though nonsensical incidents actually mean something in order to look good for the ignorant public. so instead of my politicians looking after my interests, they wrestle for tv time. instead of the media reporting useful information, every channel shows a non-story. my suicidal thoughts are justified

I did not hear the start of the show today, so I have no idea if an apology was aired at 6:00 am. But when I heard the apology at the start of the XM portion of the show my first thought was that XM may have required them to apologize before they were permitted to continue with todays show. I do not believe that O & A would have apologized unless their backs were against the wall.

Like I said in an earlier post somewhere, yes, O&A gave the obligatory soundbyte of an apology (ONCE!!!) to the public officials and others who might have been offended. They did 'the right thing'......

....as long as they DO NOT apologize again!

i just heard the replay about an hour or so ago and shook my head. i cant be an idiot and go with the, "theyre acting like pussies" bs because they did what was right for them. im a stubborn person, so i would have been fired, and without a job over something id forget ever happened in a couple of days so i would not have been worth it anyway.

it did catch me by surprise though. i remember them saying that when its their turn, they would not apologize since it doesnt do anything. i wont judge, i have no right. i just hope this entire thing blows over. this entire "care about this" vibe thats the media has been recently trying to perpetuate is annoying me

the answer is no.. xm shouldn't apologize any more for this nonsense any more than they apologize for the "tasteless" comedy on xm150.

The apology they gave should be the one and ONLY one that they ever issue. They didn't do it. . . it was a in-studio guest. Express your regret and move-on. If Charlie hadn't been black, it would have been 10,000% worse.

At least they didn't over do it like poor Imus. If it was me, I'd be on the unemployment line. I'm a stubborn asshole.

XM does not want to be regulated by the FCC after any merger(probably because Sirius channels cannot be blocked). So they did a standard apology and mention that XL channels can be blocked by parents if they so wish.

even if the channels can be blocked, its bs. no way is it constitutional for any type of government regulation.

constitutional doesn't mean shit anymore. having a constitutional right only means they haven't found a way to bypass the constitution and pass a law to take it away yet.

INTO THE BREACH MY DEAR FRIENDS!!! Fuck the apologies, apologize to my sack. Satire has been allowed by the Supreme Court, if it wasn't then Larry Flynt would have been in deep trouble a long time ago with regards to his direct attacks against Falwell. These were direct, blistering, but SATIRICAL attacks against Condy and Bushy.

I am disappointed in the apology. I am VERY disappointed in XM if they forced the apology on O & A. I am REEEEALLY disappointed in O & A if XM DIDN'T force it on them, with all their talk about not apologizing. I'm just a dumb cunt, so what do I know, but this dumb cunt says they should have just stuck out their middle finger and said "ENOUGH!!!!!", and took a stand against these Free Speech attacks. If they got fired, they should sue, take it to the Supreme Court again. Then we could have a movie called "People vs. O & A".

Who would be a good star to play Opie? How about Ant? Jimmy?

They should be apologizing to us, the people that actually matter, for actually apologizing to the people that don't. That apology offended me more than anything I've ever heard.

Ironic isn't it? The actual listeners to the show don't matter. People who happen to read the comments posted on a blog or printed in a newspaper do.

I think their apology made sense.. it wasn't groveling, and was pretty much one of those "I'm sorry you were offended" apologies.

If you regulate XM content, then you have to regulate any pay service ie: HBO, Pay Per View, Playboy Channel. What about movie theaters where a kid can see some horrific shit and file a lawsuit?? Free speech is going down the drain and we need to stop this bullshit before we wind up like North Korea!

Just because those women are in "power" positions, doesn't mean an apology was warranted.

Does this mean they should say sorry to "Stalker Patty" now too???

By the way. This was FRONT page news on Stars and Stripes over here. Check it.
