I know that others have said they are a worthless organization, but isn't this shit right up their alley?

Go here to find your affiliate and send them an email asking them to support free speech and speak out against the censorship:

I don't know if I want the ACLU involved in this. That's another level that would raise this to a "big deal". The less people and groups involved keep this as "something a funny bum said" that got the show in trouble.

That's my $0.002

it just seems that all these interest groups have a lot of firepower while we, the actual listeners, have no recourse to counter them. we are under fire and need backup.

If the merger is in jeopardy because of what the homeless charlie said, it most certainly is government interference in free speech. We are headed down a dangerous fucking road, and this story is building like a snowball, I think that it is best to amass more people on your side.

I thought that with Bubba being involved we would be able to unite with his hundreds of fans, but they are dumb as fuck. They really want O&A fired and they see no long term reprecussions. That act like Howard has no enemies in the media.

There is a course of action. The problem is our side is often too busy eating chips and jerking off to porn to organize and actually go after the sponsors with the same kind of goon tactics Sharpton's brigade uses.

There has to be someone of significant importance on our side to rally behind, and to get everyone away from the 30-second doggiestyle clips, and out towards the sponsors, threatening in a very real way to take away more business from them than the VERY small but VERY vocal minority. Pull the plug on their fucking microphone.

Fuck. This is like the radio version of Fahrenheit 451. Burn the metaphorical book that is free speech radio.

This is true. There seems to be a lot of protesting about 1st Amendment rights being trampled but this isn't the case. If we as a group are going to be debating, mailing people who can influence this situation we need to know exactly what it is we're talking about. What this is is a witch hunt by several special interest groups and, more insidious, a media who are derelict in their duty of reporting the news in a fair and impartial manner. I've lost count of the amount of "respected" journalists who pepper their updates with words like "disgusting", "dimwits", "outrageous" and the like.

These are the things that need to be pointed out. The day when the FCC or any governmental agency steps in to influence the proceedings is when it becomes a 1st Amendment problem.

I agree wholeheartedly, but people look to the ACLU and what they have done in the past defending Nazi and other types of speech against government intervention. The paralells aren't too far off where a statement by them wouldn't be unreasonable. It would be quotable material and it's something these scumbag reporters would quote in their articles.

Look lets be honest here... no one other than fans of the show will care if OnA get dropped, screaming about censorship and free speech is fucking idiotic. I'll repeat... no one cares about that shit.

This is about economics/business, the relationship between
Advertisers+CBS/XM+OnA. The problem has to be attacked from the $$$ angle, figure out how to do it and you have the best means of protecting the show.

I forgot to add the most important factor on the XM side... Subscriptions!

therein lies the problem, people are all over the place instead of focusing everything on OnA. You're not going to stop a sponsor from dropping a show, or a boradcasting company from firing anyone by charging them with censorship... It doesn't apply!

Believe it or not, radio broadcasters do not have the constitutional right to say whatever they want, they can say whatever the company they work for ALLOWS them to say. This is where so many are confused, and honestly professor Ant didn't help matters much on this issue but I can understand why he'd use the Free Speech argument.

CBS can fire OnA at any time for any reason. Same goes for XM. However, with enough economic pressure and the right representation (like Irishloon pointed out about Sharpton's tactics) we can protect our show.

No. The ACLU has defended Neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan before, those aren't exactly bleeding heart liberal causes. And from what I've read on this board Bill O'Reilly was harder on the boys then anyone else, it isn't a clear right vs. left issue here.
