Let's say this whole thing goes away by the end of next week.

What next? We know this thing was tame compared to previous topics of the show.

We now know the boys aren't safe on the XM side. That side is being monitored. And anything they say there can be used against them.

How can they safeguard the XM portion against constant attacks?

I think the news and the public in general will become bored with calling them out. I mean, we are at war, right?

If it blows over, it means this is the end of the Radio Witch Hunt. It establishes a precedent about satellite radio, and that they can say whatever the hell they want.

Also, it's a major PR coup for the Boys, because even though the media celebrities are calling the bit "disgusting," it's getting Opie & Anthony's names and faces in the news.

They'll have more name recognition and, regardless of what Mancunt says, it'll lead to more subs for XM. E-lo should be writing a thank-you note to Homeless Charlie right now.

Well, I don't think we'll be hearing any slave girl replays.

Perhaps O&A can have a minority staff to do translations of material for them. It will atleast be safer.

And God forbid anyone mentions sexual attraction in a funny manner. Perhaps they can have a lesbian translator on to help with that one. Anthony can pass notes to her.

Leave FM. Free radio is dead. They have too big a target on their backs with the show being simulcast. Pay radio is where they need to be or else both gigs may be blown up.

I dont know if it will be the end of the Radio Witch Hunt but I hope it will slam the door on those looking to monitor and limit XM content and would be a huge step in the right direction for free FM content. As for everything else you said...

I hope so too. I think it was great to get this argument out of the way, because the logical thing after imus was to go after Stern or Opie and Anthony. Having people say you are foolish for going after satellite at least got the viewpoint out there that maybe people should settle down.

well, there's the rub isn't it?
being careful

i mean, in theory, how careful are you supposed to be on xm? wasn't that the entire point of satellite radio?

apparently that whole scenario is out the window
because now you clearly can't be careful enough even on xm
and keep in mind, this was not the result of any grievance group whatsoever,
this resulted entirely from some blogger or individual tossing drudge a bone to generate hits for a day

so you can protect against the fcc
you can protect, somewhat, against the grievance industry
but can you protect against the media on a slow news day?

apparently you can't
not even behind the firewall of a pay-per subscription satellite radio service

so what can you do?
can all the media corps, or major personalities, artists, etc., insist on new contracts for buying airtime on their respective media vehicles w/some kind of lock-in or forefeiture clause strong enough to pass legal muster and placate the panicky pete corporations who buy the airtime?

is it even possible for all the media corps/personalities to come together in such a way?
i mean sure, i could see rush, hannity, etc et al be willing to stand w/those with whom they might fundamentally disagree with ideologically for the greater cause, but it's their media corporate parents who'll likely put the kibosh on it
that, and hoo-hoo--i wouldn't count on his participation
the ability to join in for the bigger picture lies well outside his mental faculties
and in fact he'd most likely do what he could to undermine it

it's probably impossible
but
if you could figure out a way to do it, you'd have revolutionized the way media airtime is paid for while saving the artistic and intellectual license for all content carried on the airwaves

Exactly, great post.

This is why I think it HAS TO blow over. XM (and Sirius) HAVE TO stand their ground on this. It is proof of why they are superior to broadcast radio, that you can get away with stuff like this is what sets them apart.

Speaking of which, have they aired Wednesday's show yet? Will the Homeless Charlie segment be cut out?

They cut the segment out of the replay that afternoon.
