Un-Free to be You & Me.

Once upon a time people in America lead a fight against the status quo and struggled for freedom from oppression, censorship and racism. They looked down on people of the establishment as tyrannical drones who worked against society’s basic freedoms, wants and needs. They celebrated in the wonders of sex, drugs and rock n roll; things were good.

Then they got old, fat and bald and became offended when someone called them old, fat and bald. So they invented Political Correctness and insisted on being referred to as our elders and things went downhill from there.

In this land of political correctness sex became bad, drugs were evil and rock n roll was silenced. You were not allowed to think differently than others; that would mean you were “with” the evil folk. You could not speak your mind because something you might say could offend someone somewhere. You couldn’t even go to a bar and have a cigarette since the rules in bars now included no smoking; with no drinking and no talking soon to follow.

Today we live in a land where we send our young overseas to die trying to bring freedom to people who don’t want it, while everyday giving away more and more of our own. Each day we give up just a little bit of our individualities and rights under the guise of political correctness, safety and religion. Each freedom given up is a feather plucked from the grand eagle soaring high above the earth. The first few feathers have almost no adverse reaction, but as more and more feathers are removed the eagle finds it difficult to fly. In time, too many feathers have been removed and the eagle beings to plummet from the sky in a downwards spiral leading eventually to its death.

We the People need to gather together and stand up once again against tyranny and oppression. We need to fight for our freedom again, and rally against those who threaten and oppose our rights. We need awaken from our silent slumber and stand up against the moral minority that exists only to remove our rights. To paraphrase a pop culture reference…we need to ’Save the Eagle, Save the World”.

Political Correctness Stifles Freedom

An entire generation of Americans can be held responsible for the creation of what has become known as political correctness. The baby boomers were brought forth into this world at a time of rejoice and celebration. Their youth was spent during a time of suburban expansion and economic growth. As they reached their teen years they fought to expand their youth and shrug the responsibilities of adulthood.

Instead of becoming adults they preached free love, took drugs and listened to music. They did this under the banner of “changing to world” when in fact it should have read “shirking our responsibilities as adults”.

As they grew older the generation that needed nothing more than a backpack, good bud and “our freedom ma’an” realized that they needed more. They shaved, put their bras back on, washed their feet and entered the job market. Thus began a 30 year ****** of our economy; one where greed is good and money is god.

The baby boomer generation brought selfishness to new heights as they took everything they could from the economy and ecology. They also brought their selfishness into their very homes. Marriages became a sham. The vow of “till death do us part” became replaced with “till I get bored and someone else comes along”. The boomers brought about divorce rates that were unthinkable just 10 years earlier; and this lead to an entire generation of children being raised in single parent homes. Families where the parent was at work and no one was at home to raise the children became very common throughout America.

Instead of taking responsibilities for the raising of their own child, the boomers looked to the government, that bastion of goodness and common sense, to act as a baby sitter. They looked toward television, radio, music and movies as the cause of everything bad a child did instead of pointing their fingers at themselves for not teaching their very own children right from wrong.

In order to completely shirk the responsibilities of parenting they looked toward Political Correctness. An idea that if you remove anything deemed bad or offensive from your child’s life, they would magically cease to be bad or offensive. Of course if a child did do something wrong it was the fault of other outside influences and not bad parenting that lead their child a stray.

There are many example of the horror that has become of a politically correct America, but a few stand out as perfect examples of the path we as a country have taken.

The Shots Heard ‘Round the World

On April 20th, 1999 the Columbine High School in Colorado became known instantly throughout the country. This once quiet town became the center of a media frenzy when two students carried out a shooting rampage, killing 12 students and a teacher, as well as wounding 24 others before committing suicide. The days and weeks afterward showed the true nature of the political correct movement.

Everyone asked why these two boys did what they did that day. The answers people came to were astounding. Somehow this became the fault of music artist Marilyn Manson, the Hollywood movie The Matrix, a video game called Doom, and of course the NRA. It cumulated with Rosie O’Donnell blaming Tom Seleck live on TV during her show because he was a member of the NRA and a believer in gun rights. We of course completely overlooked the hypocrisy that O’Donnell was the spokes person for the nation’s number two gun distributor and as it turned out, the place where Harris and Klebold purchased the ammunition used that day.

Of course we had to find something to blame because we know it would be impossible to blame their parents. Imagine what would have happened that day if their parents had just knocked on the door to the garage one time the weekend prior when the two were inside sawing off shotguns and building bombs. How many people would have died if their parents looked after their own children one time that weekend? This of course is absurd simply because in a land of political correctness, if you blame a parent for what their child did, you would have to take responsibility when your child did something. It’s just easier to blame outside influences and have them censored for ‘the good of the children’.

The Teat Offensive

February 1st, 2004 the world gathered to watch a football game that no one would forget, but not for the reason you would expect. Super Bowl 38 was unlike almost any other, since it was very competitive right up until the last few seconds. The New England Patriots scored a touchdown with 2 minutes and 51 seconds left in the game to bring them to a 7 point lead. The Carolina Panthers answered with a game tying touchdown with 1 minute and 8 seconds left. New England kicked the winning field goal with 14 seconds left in the game. Exciting yes? Memorable…not really.

What people will remember about this game for many years to come will be the booby. Yes, a booby that was on screen during the half time show for less than half a second. A booby that most people didn’t even notice while watching it live since it was only on screen for the briefest of moments.

My very own scientific study showed that one 1 in 3 people saw it when it happened. I was watching the show that year on a 65 inch High Definition television with two other people, and only I spotted the booby when it was on screen and my screen was larger and had a much clearer picture than most others. The other two saw it the next morning on the news and then like most others, voluntarily searched for it on the internet to see it un-pixilated.

This booby led to an outrage like no other. People lined up on newscasts to call it the most offensive thing they have ever seen. They wanted the television station fined and the performers jailed. In a twisted irony the one appendage made just for children was deemed un-viewable for the safety of the children. It was argued that many of our children were scarred for life from that less than half a second flash of flesh.

Congress persons and Senators promised to enact laws that would protect innocent children from ever seeing a booby ever again on television or in real life. The FCC raised fines for any offensive material and out right censorship became acceptable in the name of protecting the children from seeing any boob on the tube.

3 months later these very same people said it was not just ok, but your ‘Patriotic Duty ™’ to watch Saving Private Ryan on television completely uncensored. It was not mentally scarring for children to watch young men being graphically ripped apart with blood and intestines spilling onto the screen while screaming in horror for their mothers. It wasn’t an issue for children to hear the word Fuck used 21 times during the broadcast. I guess Miss Jackson’s booby would have not been offensive had it simply popped out during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner and waved a flag.

When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?

In the New York radio market the spring of 2007 has been a bloody one. Don Imus was fired for referring to the Rutgers NJ woman’s basketball team as ‘Nappy Headed Hos’. The champion of all things that can get his face on television, Al Sharpton, lead the charge against IMUS calling for him to be fired for taking away the glory of victory and accomplishment that these young women had fought for. Somehow he overlooked the fact that it was already done to them by Tennessee. Also of note is that these women didn’t listen to IMUS and had more offensive material on their iPods than what was said about them. They also would have never heard the comments made about them if not for Reverend Al’s soapbox appearances where he argued that Imus’ word hurt these women and the community. I do believe that Al does know what he’s talking about when it comes to offending entire communities and hurting others with his words. Don’t trust my opinion ask Steven Pagones, Fred Harari, or Yusef Hawkins.

Later that month FreeFM DJ’s JV & Elvis were fired for a skit in which a prank call was made to a Chinese restaurant where the caller did such offensive things as order ‘shimp flied lice’ and ‘cream of some young guy’. This skit outraged the Chinese special interest groups so much that they demanded the firing of the duo. The most incredible part of this story is the least reported fact. The two DJ’s were on vacation that week and the station was running a greatest hits/best of rotation of previous shows and skits. The offensive phone call skit had been done live on the show months earlier without a single complaint being lodged to the station.

Next up on the chopping block were the poster boys of fines and terminations, Opie & Anthony. This duo had lead the exodus of radio comedians from the FCC ruled terrestrial radio to the freedom of speech home of satellite radio. Even being on a pay service and placed on a channel that could be blocked with parental controls was not enough protection from the P.C. Police. Comments made on their show were deemed too offensive by special interest groups and the duo was suspended for 30 days for not being honest in apologizing.

The reach of the Political Correct Police is frightening. They continue to argue that they shouldn’t be forced to hear things that they don’t like hearing. They insist on dismissing anyone who points out that a radio and television has many channels to choose from and they just don’t have to watch or listen to anything they don’t want to. This is because Political Correctness is not about what they don’t want to watch or hear, it’s about what they don’t want you to watch or hear.

It is censorship. There is no other term. It is about a small but vocal group that pushes their will on you. They accomplish this by leaning on companies and threaten boycotts on those that advertise on the shows that they do not like. Companies don’t want to loose money so they bow to the pressure.

There are those who claim that this is not a first amendment issue or censorship, but just private businesses working toward protecting their profits. This is a view so narrow minded that you truly must wonder how these individuals even remember to breathe.

This is nothing more than small special interest groups that have figured out a way to use the greed of corporations to apply their own censorship to television and radio. Someone deems that they don’t like something, they then use pre-built deployment systems to bombard the station and its advertisers with threats of boycotts. The corporations then remove their advertising from the show in fear of retribution and the broadcaster is left with the decision to leave the show on and loose profits, or remove it to protect the bottom line.

Sometimes Turning the Other Cheek Just Gives Your Enemy a Fresh Target

In most cases today these complaints come from people who did not even hear or see the actual broadcast in question, but have heard or seen a recording of it played for them by the group so that they can write that they have heard or seen the show and were offended by it. The concept behind this is as twisted and immoral as it is pure genius. By amassing a small group of dedicated followers who will do what you ask of them, you can control the media and censor others beliefs. Leaders of these groups find snippets from shows they want removed and then tell others to listen to them and take action. Sometimes pre-written and addressed form letters are ready and waiting for the people to use, and of course, don’t forget to donate while you’re here.

When people in the news media, television or radio report and comment on the removal of others, one can only be reminded of Reverend Martin Niemoller’s comments on the Nazi Party.

"First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me."

How often do broadcaster’s or other speak out against things such as the war in Iraq? Do you know that there are some that consider that talk extremely unpatriotic and offensive? How would you feel if one day they decided to stop that type of speech?

We’ve all heard the debate over the banning of the word ******. Many agreed that it should be banned and argued very soundly for its removal from our speech. How long before the words like spic, wop, kike, fag, dike and other slurs are banned. Why just ban one word…ban all offensive words and no one will be offended. It can be done if we sit back and continue to do nothing.

This is were our fight must begin.

Political Correctness can be fought by using their own tactics against them. The masses need to step up to the plate and fight for their freedom before it’s too late, and there is nothing left to fight for.

Instead of letting them threaten a boycott if advertisers don’t pull their ads, the people need to boycott those that do. Imaging the pressure put upon companies when 50 people tell them to stop backing a show, and then they have thousands of people stop buying their products when they pull their advertising.

People need to show their support and buy products from those companies that back the shows they like and not buy products from any company that cow tows to the special interest groups. We need a show of force and the weapon needs to be money. That is the quickest and most effective way to produce change and regain our freedom.

Most people today are to busy with their own lives and don’t have time to protest, but a boycott is something that people can do quickly and easily. Creating an email list and website to quickly spread the word on which companies and products to support or boycott will lead to the average person’s voice being heard loud and clear by the corporations. People then need to act. Not buy the products listed, cancel services, and use their dollars as weapons against oppression. It can be done.

Will you stand up and fight now, or just do nothing and complain later when it’s too late?

Boomer,
I didn't take the time to read your whole novel From what I *did* read, it looks like you have painted the baby boomer generation with a pretty broad brush. I really don't think you can blame all of the ills of our nation on us any more than on the pampered generation X-er's who have plenty of faults of their own.

I'm well aware of that, but the government IS involved here. Indirectly involved, but involved nonetheless. This would definitely be a non-issue if XM and Sirius weren't kissing the lawmakers' asses trying to get them to approve their precious little merger. Otherwise, why would XM want O&A to keep quiet about a homeless guy wanting to bone the First Lady and the Secretary of State? O&A have said worse about public officials, AND they've ripped on their bosses on occasion. It's only NOW when their company is seeking the approval of Congress on a critical business move that XM castigates the boys for criticizing their policies.

I am a huge o&a fan... but this is gonna be really bad. I dont see o&a going away completely, but this is gonna suck.

1. fired from xm. you dont go to the trouble of changing the name of the channel if they are coming back.

2. dropped by alot of the affiliates. dan mason is preaching the development of local radio markets. this is why dallas dropped off the map so quickly. hollander was the "national format guy", and mason seems to be very much the opposite. you are seeing cbs formats flipping like CRAZY lately. those are the markets where CBS is really getting their ass handed to them and they have strong management.

3. A longer O&A show on FM. They knew from Tuesday that XM was finished. The meeting with Dan Mason is probably when CBS made their pitch to make O&A CBS exclusive. They said that on the air.

(#2 and #3 are just rampant speculation)

Bumping this because it's so great. I've quoted this in my Livejournal (yeah I'm a blogging douche :icon_mrgr) and am using this while defending O&A, Imus and JV & Elvis to censorship activists on other forums.

This part of it is especially good:
