My pops told me he was listening to the radio chick show at work.... a while ago and she talked about their stint on satellite radio... I believe they were with the doggy company??... I dunno but that's really irrelevent.....

He said that she was saying when they went on Satellite Radio they had the perception that it was the free speech destination.... say WHATEVER you want about ANYBODY and ANYTHING...... and they were very drawn towards that idea....the only problem is when they actually signed up for it.... the lawyers made them agree to so many stipulations regarding things they COULDN'T talk about that it wasn't much different.... other than the fact you could say fuck and shit.... They weren't able to talk about their bosses... and other higher figures within the company in a negative light.....and etc etc etc.....

Now considering her story with satellite radio you can see a similarity with what's happened to O&A....While she decided to pack the bags and say fuck it.....O&A who are much more cutting edge and prone to push every limit called the rules stupid.... and pushed against what they were told to do... which is not talk about the situation and move on....

I can't believe I didn't think about it until now.... but under this context you can see that things like this were already standard practice anyway in satellite radio.....and the merger only made that rear it's ugly head.....

A positive spin to this is that possibly it means that XM is REALLY only mad at them for not following an agreement to not bring up the situation again...... and it's NOT because they said a **** joke..... so if they do bring back O&A to XM they wont care about anything the boys say in regards to ridiculous offensive humor that we all love..... just only about bringing this situation up again....kinda like how they can't bring up that show that never happened....

They still never talked to Sharpton.....But they did apologize for the remarks... and condemn them......Although you could say that was just a lawyer move......just like this suspension is..... and they'll likely have them back on......even MORE so with all the cancellations and sponsorship drops....

I guess we'll just have to wait and see...... i'm just sayin .... a different way to view this......

Satellite Radio is the same as any other company...a company. They don't like it when you speak bad of them or go against them if you work for them.
I remember there was this story about security problems at Disneyworld even after Sept 11 on 20/20 a couple of years ago. The story was yanked big time. Why? Because 20/20 is an ABC news show and ABC is owned by none other than Disney.

Interesting thing here is OnA used to criticize XM management on a daily basis. This changed when Hugh Panero came to work for XM I believe ( those with better memories correct me if I'm wrong). So it is fair enough to say that they have been fighting being censored from inside for a while.

Sure the under-aged girl incident is a legal issue, but this is not what we have seen lately.

If you think about it, they have followed XM's wishes in the past. XM has told them to stop doing stuff and not to talk about a bunch of stuff also. The show that can't be mentioned, the assault on the media, the box of cocks, my pussy has talent, E-Lo yelling at Sam and Than for laughing about a drunk guy who was driving when he called in, etc...etc..etc..

That means that there are obviously rules in place that they have to adhere to and XM was not happy that they didn't. It was still a bullshit move and I have cancelled XM, but if/when they come back I am not as worried as some that the show will be "neutered." Free FM by definition is a neutered show anyways.

Panero was running XM when O & A were hired. He was even on the "Unleashed" special they aired before the first show

i believe as long as I can remember that O&A beat up managment over little shit, like getting the studio built , getting guests and things of that nature, I also remember "the show we cant talk about" box of cocks & other stuff. so maybe they just couldn't keep their mouths shut, and follow 1 simple rule

And what they said was no different than other times they've criticized XM. It's just now that XM has to look and act like "the responsible parent" while they're at the mercy of Congress. Ugh... this merger shit sucks AIDS-infected ass.

Many interesting points on this...I remember hearing the E-Lo tongue lashing on the "drinking and driving" conversation, and I have to say that I could understand where it was coming from. The show which cannot be discussed - didn't hear it, but if there were legal issues involved, fine.

So in other words, I do think that XM handled other "controversies" intelligently by encouraging on-air conversation. They were responsible in this action and allowed dialogue.

This current situation just has MERGER and FCC APPROVAL written all over it and that's why it's disgusting.

I actually don't blame you as the radio chick sucks balls.... and my dad refuses to buy an XM unit and subscribe cause he's jewish with his money....so he just listens to FreeFM all day...

and on that note FreeFM is generally awful before 6 am and after 9 am

I've been thinking for the last few days. O&A were suspended/fired because the new company needed them out of the way. For the PC cops, for Howard, For Mel, whoever.

Point is, they figured up a way and pulled the trigger. Nothing we could about it. As far as our efforts now. I imagine the management teams have lower level people filtering emails/mail/phones. It's not like they check their own stuff. They are sitting back waiting for the merger, that they have already "paid" for. I'm sad now.

This is the point that I think alot of O&A fans are missing. XM's statement in why they were suspended stim from comments made on the 5-14-2007 show, the main points they made during the first hour of the CBS portion of the show.

I have the 5-14 show on my Inno, I've listened to it several times, and will listen to it several more. O&A come out swinging (which they should) about more radio jocks that got fired (JV & Elvis) and go into their reasons why they think the current climate of radio makes it very difficult for jocks like them to do a daily unscripted show, leave at the end of the show knowing their job is safe or not.

It's not the comments on the "homeless charlie" show that got them suspended according to XM, it's comments on the 5-14 show that XM felt that showed that O&A weren't taking the apology serious and their responsibility with their creative freedom serious.

I can completely understand XM's stance if it would have just been suspended for the actual comments made during the homeless charlie bit.

But all comments made on 5-14 were O&A's opinions. And not even offensive opinions, but opinions well within FCC guidelines. They got suspended for voicing their opinions, NOT from the actual "homeless charlie" comments.

There's 1 component we as fans don't know about, and may never know about. We don't know what was said in meetings and phone calls between O&A and XM prior to their suspension, we don't know if they were told to "move on" and drop the entire "shock jocks with targets on their backs" angle, WE...DON'T...KNOW what was said, we were not privy to that info, and may never know.

All I do know is that XM fucked up by suspending O&A, they screwed their customers by doing so, and XM may never get back the loyalty to their platform that they once had with us, the O&A fans, Pests, and listeners.

That's my opinion, and thank god I won't be suspended or fired for stating it.

I took business courses before changing may Major (I'm working on my second BS right now). I remember one thing really clearly. For every good experience you have with a customer on average you gain 2-3 customers. For every bad experience with a customer you loose 20. Besides the obvious turning away of business from this basic principle.

Why can XM see the long term damage to both Companies? I had never heard of Pandora or www.slacker.com until this happened and now I see no reason to go back to XM, and I am spreading the word. OEM car makers will be moving over to HD radios soon, the only hope these companies have is to listen to there customers and they have violated this trust. If the boys come back yea i will resubscribe but I will get an internet feed only and keep running my mouth about why not to subscribe.... If you want music that slacker portable looks great.
