It's a '94 Honda Accord and it runs great actually.. you'd never know it has that many miles on it. Granted, I've put money up the ying yang in the car to replace the usual shit, timing belt, muffler, etc.. but it runs great.
Just need to get the breaks done pronto...

I have 357,000 on my work van (2002 chevrolet 2500.) A couple of replacement fuel pumps and a new alternator are about the only things replaced. I'm actually still using the original brake rotors, although they need to be replaced soon. The dealer recommended a new distributor about 75,000 miles ago, but I haven't replaced it yet. It still runs well, but uses a little oil and the transmission is nearing its end. I'm going to get a replacement pretty soon.

I have a '97 but don't even have 90K miles. I've got a company vehicle, and have had one for the last 2 years. So, I don't put alot of miles on nowdays.

I've used synthetic oil since I got the truck and mine is one of the few 4.0 OHV Ranger/Explorer that doesn't have the rocker/lifter noise with that many miles.

310,000 on my '93 toyota PU---all original equipment except regular maint. and a radiator I had to replace @ 260,000---still original clutch, starter, water pump, alternator, and shocks (tho now rides like a low rider) even. Amazing what changing the oil ( castrol syntec since 15,000) on a regular religious basis will do for longetivity. Looses about a quart of oil every 3 to 4 thousand miles, so I know when it's down a quart, it's time for a change.
And people ask why I don't buy amerikan autos---hmmmmpf---- when they start to build one that isn't finished @ 100,000, I will. I never owned an amerikan built that didn't start nickel and diming me around 80k.

Among the best passenger car brands for inexpensively running high miles I've seen are:

Honda
Toyota
Nissan
Volkswagen

One pretty much can't easily kill selected engines from their lines, although I've seen pretty funky stuff in each. The support investment to keep these cars running goes to varying degrees, but I have to rank Honda tops, even above Toyota, though the latter seems to have more bulletproof engines, aside from the mid to late 90's 4 cylinder exhaust manifolds.

I had a company vehicle at my old job from a few years back. It had like 367K miles on it when I stopped driving it. I understand they still have it and it still runs with well over 400K on it now. It's a mid '90's GMC pickup. Original engine, original transmission that had an un-needed pseudo-rebuild. There was an electronic problem and they replaced a bunch of shit in the tranny and the problem persisted. Then they replaced this electronic controller and the problem was fixed.

Well that's why I've always bought used cars. I pay them off on the spot.. no car payments. Only monthly payment I make is insurance.

I would NEVER buy some one else's problem car. That is a disaster waiting to happen. I'd much rather have a new, reliable car than some mystery mobile that might fall apart in a week. I'd take a car payment over having to wait for the tow truck any day. The only reason I've ever had a car payment is because I used my savings for a down payment on a house. Both times I've had a car loan I paid them off well head of schedule. And I'm buying economy cars (first was a '95 Ford Escort, now I have the Echo). It's not like I'm running out & buying the newest luxury vehicle.

I actually buy old problem cars, Audi Turbo Quattros, in particular. I can rebuild most anything and I know off the bat the moment I drive it what the problems are. I buy these cars, bring them home, spend three days undoing the shotty repairwork done by supposedly qualifies mechanics, and drive the cars into the ground, at which point I completely gut the car for parts and buy another.

I've had great success doing this and going over the cars to find out the results of poor work. Nearly 100% of the time, the stuff that is wrong when I buy the car is due to an improper repair job.

I have have a dozen k26 and k24 turbos in my closet, manifolds, engine blocks, sensors, electrical items, etc. Another great thing is the on board diagnostics are really well laid out and no scanner is necessary. Straight through the dash and a few diagnostic codes and I can tell a lot about what's wrong.

Unfortunately, my experience on Audi, VW, and Porsche displays either a lot of ****** rigs perpetraited by poor mechanics only looking to get the car back together and collect the dollars, or owners getting what they pay for by taking their high $$$ German car to the ****** on Straight Path in Wyandanch.

Calm down. I was just saying how buying used cars works for ME. I bought that Honda about 3-4 years ago for $3500 cash. Granted over the years, I've probably put that much in repairs, but the car has yet to let me down. And yes, I plan on driving it into the ground.

P car with 325+ (the odometer breaks every 70,000).
A NEON with 225 (head gasket and water pump every 65,000)

They are both ready to drive at any time
Buying used is OK as long as it is obviously a vehicle that the previous owner had more dollars than sense. My last purchase for the wife was a 2005 Dodge that the previous owner spent $45000. It was never abused and was taken to the dealer every 3,000 miles for oil changes. (Not that dealer mechanics are rocket scientists, but they should know their brand a little better than jiffy lube). Thanks to rapid depreciation I got her reliable transportation she is very happy with for less than $20,000. I expect to get another 225,000 miles out of it.

Repairing them is always cheaper than a car payment especially when the value of the car never catches up to the principal. Regular thorough inspections can head off the headaches of a major problem on the side of the road. Take care of them and they will last until nature reclaims the body.

Eh. 12 - 20% of $12k isn't too bad. It's definitely better than buying something used and having the engine seize (happened to my brother), or a VW with an oil light that won't go out (happened to my step dad). That $1440 - $2400 (depending on the % used) automatic depreciation is worth the peace of mind for me. I like knowing that I'll actually get home & not have to rely on a tow company and then hassle someone else to pick me up.

When I bought my car, you could say it was a single owner. The girl that I bought it from, got the car from her dad, who bought it brand new. When he upgraded his Honda, he gave her the car but always maintained the upkeep on it for her.. you know how it is.. daddy's little girl and whatever the fuck.
So it was in mint condition when I got it...

I wish I was fancy enough to afford a new car all the time but I have a mortgage so I'm just fancy in other areas of my life. I did keep my escort after I paid it off, but the engine seized on that POS. The echo rules in comparison. It'll take a lot of convincing to get me to buy an American brand again.

All vehicles should hit 250,000 - 300,000 if taken care of.

My work truck crapped out at 260,000 and the truck my boss drives has 330,000 on it. Neither truck has any major problems(engine, trans, or rear-ends) Just brakes or alternators or shit like that.

You just need to service every 3000-4000 miles and make sure you fix any squeaks or clanks and they will run forever.

don't ever go back to that dealer..... Unless it is a shitty little 4.3L V6 that van doesn't have a distributor. If it does have a 4.3 then that is not nearly enough engine for a 3/4 ton van.
