I have been around dogs all my life and pride myself on thinking I know their ways but this one has me in a bit of a quandry.....
A friend of mine asked me about breeding his dog...a pure bred German Shepherd.
Well the Bitch (literally) won't mate on encounters with males.
He asked me if it is because he always takes her to breed or if it is because she is not ready.
According to him, she is in heat and "presents" herself to him. She is also exhibiting aggression towards his wife.
I said I thought that the dog looks at him as the Alpha Male and is seeing him as a potential mate.
Any ideas?

exactly, if he really wants to breed the dog there is always artificial insemination, if the dog is worth it. if she's in full standing heat she should present her self to any male. an option is for him to take the bitch to the male and leave, she may be having issues with him being there.

oh and he could just make it super hot and just fuck the dog.......

While it is a common problem with the breed, I am pretty sure not.
The owners are pretty specific about their dogs and would not seek to breed them otherwise.

Unless both dogs are OFA certified as not having hip problems, breeding them is not really a responsible thing to do.

Breeding dogs for profit is awful. There are plenty of good pups that need homes. The dog is acting aggressive because it's not spayed.

If someone is looking for a puppy, adopt one...don't buy.

I had my dogs for 6 years before they decided to mate. Sometimes they just don't wanna. My male was obsessed with my other male for 6 years. I was convinced they were homos.

Welllllll first, why does he want to breed this bitch if she is exhibiting a tempermant problem? Is the sire an easy going dog? What is he looking for out a litter? Is he just looking for puppies or is looking to improve on a blood line and has an end result in mind. But regarding your question of the actual deed getting done, if the act is going to be detrimental to her health go the frozen route. Less fuss. Most breeders I know think frozen results in smaller litters however it is the safest.

Both are pure bred dogs of show stock linneage My friend brought his as a pet not as a show dog. No the dogs are not directly related..(I told them to check as I had encountered the problem with my Newfie) The dog isnt growling or snapping at my friend's wife, the dog does though physically move between my friend and his wife and tends to "hip check" her out of the way to get attention.

That sounds to me as if it is a GSD being a GSD. People sometimes forget that they are actually "herding dogs."

Sounds like a couple of bitches I know... the males will have to spend more on the dinner. And don't cheap out on the wine. :icon_cool
