My new pastime is listening to live concert audio.

Right now I have loaded:

Tool @ AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX - 5/21/2007
Smashing Pumpkins @ Le Grand Rex, Paris, France - 5/22/2007
Radiohead @ HiFi Buys Amphitheatre, Atlanta, GA - 10/06/2003
Alice In Chains @ Kemper Arena, Kansas City, MO - 07/03/1996

If you're up for some listening, get a live show from Pearl Jam :) you won't be let down

(and one of their best live shows was from Atlanta, back in...95 or 96 I think...GREAT show!)

I have about 20-30 Pearl Jam live shows going back to 1990. Don't think I have anything from Atlanta though...

I always enjoyed the shows they did overseas the most...

rhys chatham - a crimson grail (for 400 electric guitars)
This is a recording of a piece commissioned by the city of Paris in October 2005, which saw the experimental composer directing a 400-strong guitar orchestra who performed on the steps outside Sacre-Coeur in Montmartre. The opening movement of the piece is overwhelmingly symphonic. All the conventional timbral properties of the electric guitar are dissolved into a vast, swirling gestalt body of sound that shifts around in a surprisingly organised, harmonious fashion. It’s immensely beautiful stuff, and must have been quite something to have witnessed in-person, on the streets of Paris. The second part of the piece is markedly more sparse, with some individual isolated drone notes discernible from within the sonic mist. Keeping time are bassist, Ernie Brooks and drummer Jonathan Kane, who are inevitably overcome by the sheer oceanic sound of all 400 guitarists in full flow. For the third and final part of the piece, the dynamics of the performance are gradually heightened to a furious assault on all 2400 strings, bringing the event to an impossibly dense, clamorous finale. An absolutely fascinating document of a remarkable event.

WHILE MY GUITAR VIOLENTLY BLEEDS - (Locust Music, 2007). 3 Songs, 43 Minutes. Recorded by Paul Oldham at Rove Studio in the fall of 2006. Cover painting of Lucretia is by The Master of the Holy Blood, circa 1520.
Sir Richard Bishop is an experimental American guitarist and member of Sun City Girls. His solo recordings and performances are largely improvised and draw on influences from Indian, North African and Gypsy styles, among others.

everything sir richard bishop releases is great. probably my favorite solo artist at the moment and an amazing guitarist.

porter wagoner - wagonmaster

That Porter Wagoner released a new album during the year of his 80th birthday -- some 55 years after his first recording -- is an event worth celebrating in itself. That it is consistent with the best work of his career is remarkable. Wagoner has always played it straight -- his brand of mainstream country-tonk never was as fashionable as his spangled stage outfits, and he never pretended to be an outlaw -- and that's just what he continues to do here. Though his baritone is more weathered than during his prime, Wagoner sounds decades younger on Wagonmaster, and there remains a youthful exuberance to the music. The only obvious signs of his age surface during the spoken word sections, such as the intros to "Albert Erving," a song of abject loneliness, and "Committed to Parkview," which Johnny Cash wrote for Wagoner but never recorded himself. Like many songs in Wagoner's canon, it's eerie, creepy, and more than a little bit sad, a vivid account of life inside a Nashville asylum, listening to the "guests," one of whom "thinks he's Hank Williams." One of the highlights of Wagonmaster, the song was presented to Wagoner -- himself a former "guest" at the facility, as had been Cash -- by Marty Stuart, who took a no-frills, purist's approach to his production of Wagonmaster (pedal steel rules!). There are songs of hard loss ("The Late Love of Mine," "Be a Little Quieter") and hard work, songs of faith (the back-to-back "Brother Harold Dee" and "Satan's River"), and songs of good times too -- all of them are classic Wagoner, one of the last of the true giants of Nashville's golden era.

amazing album that came out this year

http://www.feowrecords.com/images/DeerTick_WarElephant_cover.jpg
deer tick - war elephant
At the age of 21, John McCauley, the man behind songwriting project/band Deer Tick, has recorded War Elephant, an album full of songs wiser and more nuanced than he should be able to produce according to natural law. The words are deliberate and heartfelt, following the lead of guys like Townes van Zandt, Neil Young and Richie Valens. The arrangements touch on everything from the summery rock of Tom Petty to Nirvana’s sludgier moments. And McCauley’s voice, arguably the best thing about Deer Tick, carries these great melodies with real strength and honesty.

This is not going to be the record they play at the dance party in the warehouse that you got all done up for. This will be the record you listen to on the drive back, alone and after you’ve sobered up enough to make it.

The sort of company John McCauley keeps gives a pretty decent indication of his musical allegiances. Having previously worked with Jana Hunter and Viking Moses, McCauley's songwriting as manifested in his Deertick solo project offers a ramshackle, run-down alternative to American folk music and country. This is no low-rent fourtrack recorder business though, McCauley's managed to assemble a full-blown band complete with strings, which he calls upon with a sensibly sparing hand. The sleevenotes recount a story about Bruce Springsteen hearing one of McCauley's songs in a record store and remarking to a third party that it was "good". That might sound like a fairly minor incident to report, but in a world where at least one-third of the population is comprised of singer-songwriters, it's hard to work out what's worth listening to and what's not, and if The Boss is down with Deertick, then that's good enough for me. Excellent stuff.

gavin bryars - the sinking of the titanic

really good piece and you should find the version i linked to. the re recordings bryars did of it are nowhere near as good as the original

Bryars' idea was to construct an aural picture of the disaster, complete with songs and hymns supposedly played by the ship's orchestra even as she was sinking. He combined this with the acoustical phenomenon of the enhanced ability of sounds to travel great lengths underwater and produced an eerie and romantic sub-aqueous soundscape of remarkable subtlety and beauty. Using minimalist techniques, the repetition and overlapping of hymns like "Autumn" assume a surreal aspect, at once sad and peaceful. His score was designed to incorporate new discoveries about the shipwreck (or to dispense with elements that proved false) over time; this performance includes taped reminiscences of one survivor and the tinklings of a music box salvaged by another. This is one gorgeous, haunting piece of music

listening to some brutal metal christmas music. The cd is called "A Brutal Christmas". It has various types of metal and over all pretty good. It probably one of the few cd's i have ever found that is good and all metal for Christmas music in it. It pretty rare to actually find this so any of you metal heads i recommend this if your looking for something different in your Christmas music.

I just discovered an artist called "Peaches".

I'm really into her first album, and it sounds a lot like the new type of music you hear on "Ethel", even though it was released in 2000.

Before she became "Peaches", she was an elementary school music and drama teacher. She plays almost all the instruments for her songs, programs her own electronic beats and produces her records.

Here's the Wiki http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peaches_(musician)

"Beneath The Remains" and "Arise" are great Cavalera-era Sepultura albums. Did you like the Nailbomb stuff he did with Alex Newport?
