I didn't wake up until this one came on, and I have to leave for work before too much longer. so I won't be seeing it all

I'm watching now. But it's not like this hasn't been the subject of dozens of other specials over the past 30 years. This has the disadvantage of having to include footage from the prequels as well.

I love the compairison to mythology. It kinda validates all of these years of Star Wars worship that I've done.

I loved how they spun the entire mythology of the movies into this grand design. I love the films and am familiar with all the lore. The general story arc is very good...hwoever the prequels killed me for the shitty acting , horrendous dialogue and JarJAr. The story enncompassing all 6 films is very epic and interesting no matter what...just I feel, like many others, the prequels took something out of it.
The Tech Specical was good...though the scientists were pretty much like "Lightspeed or space travel is pretty much impossible as we view it now. There needs to be some completely new technology to spawn itself for us to even have a chance"
Leave it to specials like these to bring out the geek in me.
In the tech special, they were talking about how the big windshields were impossible because glass isn't that strong. And I'm like, "well duh, it's not glass, it's transparasteel."
Trek > Wars
Flame away.
Episodes 4 - 6 of Star Sars > Star Trek
Episodes 1 - 3 of Star Wars < Star Trek
The Empire Strikes Back = Wrath of Kahn
Let's just remember the good stuff and call it even.

I've got one question. I was watching empire this weekend and something really struck me. Why would the manufaturer of the plane from hoth put a harpoon on the back of the fighter in the first place. I mean it really did come in handy, put that was a coincidence, what did the origional designer have in mind in the first place. Were there whale on hoth that, that plane could be used to collect? If anyone has any ideas.

why the fuck did they interview worthless tools like tom brokenjaw, dan rather, that cooze linda ellerbee, and the power dyke camille paglia
i'd have rather just listened to kevin smith drone on an on like a fanboy through the entire thing than listening to those washed up, worthless hacks

Those were jury-rigged by the pilots, in their down time they liked to go out and harpoon these guys:

God I remember reading Campbell's (spelling?) in college and getting drunk and telling my friends about how Star Wars was all like certain things in his book...who knew I could have made a career about it

it was called a "tow cable" so I assume it be meant to TOW things stuck in the snow like other snowspeeders.
The only thing that bothered me about those scenes is you would think the AT-AT's were big and strong enough to snap fucking cables with their giant legs...

But stop and think about, a rope made from simple plant fibers wrapped around a Cows legs a few times can bring it down.

Exactly. They weren't harpoons at all. They didn't have a spear tip, they had a magnetic tip. Living on an environment like Hoth would certainly cause vehicles to get stuck in the snow from time to time, so it makes perfect sense for the rebels to need to tow them out.

Ok good point, but don't you think that trying to pull out let's say some kind of car with a plane could be dangerous to the driver of the land vehicle? If this was on a larger tank type vehicle I could understand it.
