Just wondering who are some black people you find likeable, if any, and why?


Not only does this thread provide decent fodder for funnies, it also gives some intellectually acceptable discussion fodder, too.


I'll chime in if there's any interest from baggers in posting.

There are lots of cool black people, it's just most people never interact with them , and their only view of black people come from the gold-toothed buffoons on MTV or the criminal degenerates on all the CourtTV video shows.

Some of the coolest guys I've known at past jobs have been black, granted they grew up before the whole gangsta rap shit came along (which in my opinion did more to denigrate the black community than anything a racist white man ever could). They were the most down-to-earth no bullshit people I have ever met.

Unfortunately, and this goes for all races, the poorest and dumbest have the most kids, thereby flooding communities with criminals in waiting, and those that are successful are deemed by the majority of morons as Uncle Toms and whatnot.

I just try and remember that most people in this world are pieces of shit, and that isn't exclusive to any one race.

I live in a real redneck suburb of Dallas, and there's this one black dude that lives out here that's like 6'3", 240ish. I'm 6'4", 220, so we're usually the biggest guys in the bar when we're out.

Whenever I see him walk in, or he sees me it's always something like this:

(Redneck accent) "Hey you fuckin nagger! We don't let no blue gums in this here bar!"
(In his best gangsta accent) "Fuck you cracka! I'm gonna kill you then r.ape yo' woman!"

We then run at each other like we're gonna fight, then stop and bust out laughing as everyone stares in horror at these two massive fuckers about to destroy the bar.

So I nominate Big Fred for the coolest sparkling wiggle I know.

Most blacks individually aren't so bad. It's just that when they're in groups their behavior changes. That's why I leave when I'm in any situation where I'm not part of the racial majority.

there was one old black man that used to work at my shop, i liked him very much, i used to help him out all the time, he was cool to talk to. he was about 70 years old, and grew up during Jim Crow, yet he hated the fact that blacks were still bitching about racism yet most have never really experienced it. so i have to say that i like Old Bill the black guy

I went to school with lots of black people. Most turned out shitty, but a few have gone on to be something. I still stay in contact with one, and he is one of the best people that you will ever meet. I like Stormrider666 that posts here on the board. As far as famous black people. I like Will Smith for some reason. Hell I really don't think to hard about it. I will give most people a chance regardless of color, until they give me a reason to not like them personally. Now when I see someone wearing a STOP Snitching shirt, I tend to form an opinion of them without meeting them. I take that back. White trash. I hate them more than any group of people on the planet.

Yeah guys... good discussion. Touching on both real stuff, and the humorous.

Personally, growing up in the inner city, I've made acquaintance with a lot of black peeps.

While trying ones best to not be prejudice, and to give everyone the same courtesy all humans should get, (Treat em fairly, decently, unbiased, until you see reason otherwise)....
It's almost impossible, on a long enough time line, and with enough exposure ti a given demographic, to not see that "otherwise".

I was practically the only white kid in a 20 mile radius growing up amongst such a large percentage of non-whites. (mexican neighborhood, not black)

I can remember being young and unbiased, and trying to consider them no different, or no less, and me no better or superior... but after years and years of seeing racism exist and being on the recieving end of it, it sorta makes it almost impossible to not generalize a race based upon the evidences presented.

Glenn Dandy, fezman, I think covered a bit of what I wanted to echo as well. Good stuff boys.
Mainly about being cordial as much as human deceny allows, and there's a limit to that.

Back when I was in the Navy out in San Diego, I lived with four other guys in a rat trap, two bedroom apartment in a seriously rough neighborhood. One of the guys can't take living in the urban jungle, so he moves out. So one of the other guys asks if it's alright if his friend, a black guy, can move in with us. We were all like sure... no problem... we're enlightened white folk.

Of course....

Chicken George moves in, never pays a dime of rent, steals everything he can get his hands on, invites all of his homies over, they trash the place, blare their tribal music, and we get evicted two months later. :icon_roll

I grew up white, with white people rules, we are taught from a very young age honor, dignity,HONESTY,not to steal, lie, To help people, not to litter, or hurt people.To have a clean property, to fix your brakes on your car before you buy new rims.

Its not a personal issue, Its a difference in way of life.... You give a a guy whos brown, green, or blue that grew up with parents, tought the same values I was tought and I would probably like em...

All kidding aside, my favorite is Charles Barkley. Plus lots of other sports personality's. No one in music that I care for, though.

Personally, I only know a couple of black guys, and they are cool guys.

My best friend since I've moved down south is black. He's a nice guy. Smart, works hard, takes good care of his family.

The real difference between us isn't race, it's values that are instilled in us when we are young. A lot of blacks don't have a traditional family structure so that gets lost a lot. According to him, there really aren't any excuses anymore.

I've come to think we have a class problem in America, not a race problem. The lower 'classes' are poor and are angry and don't take things like education, hard work, and family seriously. A lot of them happen to be black and hispanic.

For me, I never had the opportunity when I lived up north (I grew up in MA) to see successful black folks. If you haven't, many of them really are no different. I guess I didn't realize that until a couple years ago.

i think maybe it's less a matter of feeling superior than it is a matter of feeling backed into a corner. we've been raised in a society that tells us to be tolerant of and embrace diversity, while also being told that we white folk are basically the cause of all social and racial unrest in this country; we are the man, we're keeping everyone down. now this can't compute when we really have no tangible power over our own lives (in the abstract, and colored by my own fatalistic outlook) much less anyone else's lives. hmm.

i guess what i'm saying is that, no matter how hard i work at my job, i cannot earn more than a black or mexican or asian or any other man or woman. how can i be the bad guy when i have no opportunities anyone else doesn't? just because the bad guys were often white does not mean white people are often bad, you know?

slavery in this country ended what... thirty or forty years ago (could be a bit more than that, jim)? i'm 31, right? i'm two generations separated from a ship from norway. the vikings have never mounted a successful attack on anything short of wildlife. the moors did more damage to more countries, as did asians and religion, than my people ever did to anyone but their widows.

i'm rambling and exhausted, so pardon the distinct lack of linearity to this post...

i just think white folk are scared and lonely and lashing out at everyone now because they have no logical recourse, and when logic fails, instinct takes over. it's always unfair and ugly, but it's what it is to be human: castrate us, take away our confidence in ourselves, and we become nothing better than savage ANIMALS! so it's not racism out of hatred, it's a knee-jerk reaction out of fear. or maybe we really all do hate each other and this world will end soon, when we all nuke each other over semantics. fuck it, whatever, i'm ready to see this compost heap of a society go up in flames.
