William DuVall is unbelieveable. I drove all the way up to Albany last year to see the new Alice In Chains. He and the band won over every single person in that venue. I cannot emphazise enough how good they sounded. You got to give it a chance, it'll win you over too.

I understand AIC fans not wanting to see it without layne, but you really have to realize jerry cantrell was the leader of the band, wrote most of the songs. and while it cant even be close to the same band without layne, Im still interested in hearing cantrell live doing aic songs

Alice in Chains isn't Alice in Chains WITHOUT LAYNE....when will people figure this out?!!?!?!?! yes, Jerry Cantrell wrote a lot of the songs...but NO LAYNE..hence NO ALICE IN CHAINS...this band died with layne so having a tour is so fucking dumb...i love AiC to death, but this is lame without layne...anyone see james hetfield singing alice in chains songs or hear it? IT WAS HORRID

really? any1 hear Phil Enselmo singing AIC songs? Awsome. Cantrell is an unbelievable artist and to say you wouldnt want to see him do AIC songs, sounds liek you didnt really enjoy AIC in the first place seeing as though not only did he write the majority he also sang in/ or lead in 70%-80% of the songs. Dont get me wrong, Layne will always have a place in my heart. The words and his voice lead me though some dark times in my life.

06-23-2007, 01:18 AM
ah man, the reason why the music was so depressing is because layne was going through all that heroin crap and basically singing it out, and you could feel what he was feeling.....AiC is dead in my boook, unfortunately...i still listen to all there old stuff and LOVE it, but with a new singer....it's just not the same for me

half the people in this thread that said AIC is dead, did u see them on tour last year? if not then u can't say shit yet, give it a chance. Yes Hetfield sucked and so did anselmo, duvall is pretty good though. He has been singing layne stuff for years when jerry was solo.
Yes they are working on a new album. I'm looking foward to it, Degradation Trip ruled, so Cantrell still has it.

Alice in Chains without Layne is a good band. With Layne, they were the best band.

no thats completely fair. I think what myself and a few others were questioning was the people who assumed layne was the core of the band musically, which he wasnt, jerry cantrell was.
its not the same band without layne staley, not even close. layne as a singer is irreplaceable. no one denying that. but I think its still worth it to see the guy that wrote the songs play, and especially when hes as good as cantrell is. hes solos are phenominal.

Got my tix for the 08/17 show at PNC a little while back! I'm psyched! I was a big GNR and STP fan back in the day, and I like Velvet Revolver's material as well. That worked out so much better than that sonic abortion known as Audioslave.
I'm there for Velvet Revolver. I like Alice in Chains but without Layne singing I couldn't really give a shit. But I'll go into their set with an open mind.

Dont forget Angry Chair either, fella.
With it being said that Im more of a Layne fan than AIC, being that I love Mad Season as much as AIC, Cantrell is too good of a musician to not go see. Duvall does a really good job covering the songs, but you can just tell his soul isnt in the Lyrics the way Layne's was.
Listen to his version of Nutshell; he hits all the notes, and even though stylistically no one can expect it to be identical to the original, he cant really emulate the pain and depression of the song.
Id still give my right leg to see them live though.

I was down in Philly yesterday and actually heard Mad Season's River of Deceit on a terrestrial FM radio station! I couldn't believe my ears! It's nice to know that in other cities the 92.3 KRock same 20 song format doesn't exist at all radio stations.

Anybody go to the PNC show tonight ? I just got back a little while ago and it was fuckin incredible. Velvet Revolver put on an amazing show and Weiland is still the best performer in the biz today. They did some STP and GNR songs, too - three each, I think - and they also did an amazing cover of 'Wish You Were Here' by Floyd. Overall an awesome show.
Oh, and Alice in Chains were surprisingly very good, you know, with the new singer and all. As others have said in this thread the new guy sounds eerily similar to Layne Staley and they also put on a great show.

Alice in Chains was absolutely amzing last night. Duvall is more than a good replacement. He hits every single note and was flawless.
